Black Clay Glaze combos can be hard to come by, but this one is tried, tested and true...every-time! I've been using this glaze combo for years now and it never, ever fails! AMACO's Potter's Choice - Lustrous Jade x2 under Potter's Choice -Dark Green x3! Order counts! You can get dramatically different results and more or less movement. Strange huh??
This ceramic glaze combo works on other clay bodies and colours but it's really something special on black clay. In this video I paired it with Pottery Supply House 540i Black Clay...really it's a toasty dark brown but they call it black...it's sooo nice to throw with as it's very smooth. I haven't yet sanded the bottom yet in this video, I was just so very excited to share it with you all...by the way, I've use the same ceramic glaze combination on Laguna's WC-391 and it too gave the same mottled and drippy effect. On white clay you see less of the mottled but all of the movement so it's a great combo to have in your reserves!
Disclaimer: This was my first go with using 3x Dark Green, I usually use only x2 but I really like it, the drips are even more pronounced with the additional layer of Dark Green.
So the trade off is more molten drips with x3 Dark Green and with the x2 you see more of the spotting in the colour...looking like Van Gough Starry Nights. Both are gorgeous, you decide and most importantly play with your glaze layering and glaze combos. I love hearing from you too, so if you try one of my combos be sure to let me know how it turned out for you!!
