Thank You Levin!! Seriously! I just bought my charge 5 last year and I KNEW it didn’t have an Aux even-though I seriously needed the Aux option for mobile music production and iOS keyboard practice apps. I recently got tired of the audio lag when using MIDI and Bluetooth. I was gonna search and buy a speaker with Aux option but i stumbled on your video at the last minute and it worked!! I hooked up my keyboards and external SSD drives to my 7 in 1 hyperdrive to my iPad Pro. For the Charge 5, I used usb C male cord to USB A male into one of the hyperdrive usb slots and BOOM!! Definitely, use the apps with volume control because the iPad volume will NOT control the sound. The individual app volume control will control the app volume used like AUM, GarageBand, Neosoul Keys, Korg Module, etc.

Does it allow you to connect JBL to an audio interface (like behringer for example) which has only aux jack output?
This doesn't work on my Flip 5. When I press the 2 buttons you mention, nothing happens even after 1 minute. Also, when I plug the USB cable into my 2012 Macbook Pro, I get a "not enough USB power" error. Any ideas?
Thank you so much, this guide worked for my JBL Flip 5 ❤❤❤ I was on the verge of selling this speaker to buy another one with AUX, you guys saved my wallet. Also, has anyone tried to connect via USB-C to AUX cable?
I got this to work flawlessly with my iPad Pro 11” M1. She is correct that the volume will no longer work on the Flip 6. You will have to adjust this on the app you are using. This is so great. I am about to return the new Flip 4 that I had just bought on Amazon. The Flip 6 sounds way better, and now with this work around I have no limitations with my mobile music work flow. PS: The actual Bluetooth latency is not that bad with the M1 iPad. You could not play a live gig, but to just get some quick ideas down it could work.
On macOS, the volume control problem can be solved with the Loopback app (developed by Rogue Amoeba). It is designed for redirecting sound output from one app directly to another, and it does so by creating virtual sound devices. I created a new virtual sound device that takes passthrough as input, and then output to the physical Flip speaker. By setting the system output to this virtual device, the speaker volume can now actually be controlled. Basically, the entire master sound output is captured by this app and volume-controlled before the speaker physically plays it.
Excellent! For me it works on windows 10 and macos m1. However, it recognizes the driver as "zgmicro" and it is not possible to lower volume through the control bar. The initial solution I used is to control the volume of "youtube" and "spotify" in the app itself. But I found a more elaborate solution using that you can use either the "stereo mix" (native app - windows), or the cableOut (third app - windows), or BlackHole 2ch (third app - MacOs) If you are interested in understanding how it works, here is a video tutorial:
It seems this is not a good option for anyone who wants a bluetooth speaker with aux input. I contacted JBL support and they do not recommend this as it can damage the speaker and is only used in this mode to test the speaker. I saw the Flip 5 for a good price but seems this is not a good option for my purpose of using for aux output for my synthesizer as a portable option over lugging my powered JBL monitor around. This is a real shame they don't have the USB-C port programmed for aux input. I have looked at the Flip 4, Flip Essential that have aux input but are higher price than the Flip 5. Anker Soundcore and Tribit X-Sound are the best practical options and comparable sound quality if not clearer that Flip. Would be interested in anyone else who has a found a product they like for this solution.
I had indeed a charge 3 and was using it on my mobile over the sound limit. the result was basically the speaker sounding scratchy. got myself a charge 5 today.
Of course, the JBL company does not find this option viable since when the flip 5 is in service mode it needs a power source to work, having it connected for a long time can lead to reduced battery life. The only viable thing I see is to remove the battery haha
Hi justin; did you get a good solution?.. that’s *exactly why i got the flip 5, to use wired to the synth.. unfortunately not possible… Is it working for you any other model?. Also: can you run the aux in from the synth & play through Bluetooth at the same time?? (Lets say: to play a drum machine app from the phone). Thanks!!
How can i change the volume after being connected to the speaker? As you mentioned in the video, the volume setting is too high , Is there any other ways to keep the volume down from the speaker itself? Thanks!
Cool, it works. It's really good to know as some devices just don't have Bluetooth, while they have USB ports, or have bad quality Bluetooth that has very poor range. It works fine on Windows, except no volume control, but on Android it's really bogging up the device. Maybe it's the cable though. Getting out of this mode also sometimes only works after a few tries.
I received few comment from people who shared that its not work the best on windows, but @Adryano Fortie contributed a great solution, I quote: elaborate solution using that you can use either the "stereo mix" (native app - windows), or the cable out (third app - windows), or BlackHole 2ch (third app - MacOs) If you are interested in understanding how it works, here is a video tutorial:ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-01HnvWc_PxY.html Let me know if it helps
@@LevinsReview Windows audio mixer works, and changing the volume in the app you are listening to works. But it is inconvenient, as you can neither use the hardware buttons on your computer nor the ones on the speaker. That really sucks for full-screen apps like games.
Thank you for this. Yes, it's working on RebornOS Linux (Arch Linux) and the output selection shows up as two modes under the Audio Settings Control Panel - Analog Output Zgmicro AUDIO, or Digital Output (S/PDIF) Zgmicro AUDIO - and both produce output sound from my JBL Charge 5 when selected. Also, when viewing the device as USB, it appears as "Bus 006 Device 002: ID 0ac8:9628 Z-Star Microelectronics Corp. Zgmicro AUDIO".
I have the jbl 5 and it didn't work to use aux only bluetooth. The part of connecting usb to pc and tap bluetooth and play button didn't change nothing in my case. only bluetooth working
@João Henrique I am really sorry to hear it doesn't work for you as expected, I believe we can't solve this. Firstly, did you enter the JBL speaker into service mode? Secondly, when you connect JBL to your device. Let's say Laptop, watch the video at minute 1:52 I show how I choose the connection of the speaker, not on all computers the connection to speakers is switched automatically. If you entered the speaker into service mode, as I showed. Then encourage you to watch minute 1:52 and apply it on your end. Let me know if it helps.
I did it with my Boombox 3 and now it does not turn on. When the button is pressed, an LED lights up, but after a second it turns off. It does nothing with any command. How do I fix it?
So i tried this, by mistake the cable was not plugged in properly and i pressed the buttons to enter service mode, the jbl turned off. Now it isn't turning on any idea what to do?
it's not working on my flip 4 :/ after doing the procedure it does a very slightly white noise, but it won't play... I have a audio to usb-c cable, but it's not playing anything: any idea?
My jbl link portable is works like you shown in the video with the cable but after unpluging the cable and turning it on it power off automatically after 24 second how to solve this problem please help me!
Hi I did this in flip 6 and no button is working anymore, it is off and does not turn on. I tried the combination again but nothing, can you help, i just bought it
Hi Alex, bit late to the party but for you and potentially other people: make sure to connect the device so that it turns on. Then hold Bluetooth and ▶️ for 10 seconds. It should be in normal mode again
absolutely , follow the instruction in the video and apply it to your android device. It should work perfectly fine, let me know if you have any questions.
Hi, thanks for the video, I heard about the audio-over-USB mode just a short time ago and I‘m trying since to make it work on my JBL flip 5. It’s hard to find any information, apart from a short Reddit post and one RU-vid video yours is the only coherent instruction I found. I would like to connect the flip 5 to my synthesizer and need low latency to be able to play on it. But I followed each step and couldn‘t make it work, until I found out there’s a firmware update to 0.5.6.0 which I installed using the JBL Portable App on my iPhone. Now it’s working, but it seems I can’t control the volume on my iPhone. Thanks again. Funnily I have detected another kind of service mode: pressing „+“ and bluetooth for 20-30 secs leads to a mode, where every LED is lit, including the orange „battery empty“ LED on the chargelevel bar and the party boost ellipsis. In this mode the Flip5 is completely unresponsive to any button press, but is not working as a usb loudspeaker, actually it makes my windows 10 audio system crash.
thank you fur such awesome comment☺️ i'm so excited the video was helpful 🌟 as for the issue you described with iPhone, unfortunately i dont have iphone so i cant play around and figure it out. but i would try work with equalizer app, i bilieve it will allow you control the volume. and about the new button combination you found its basic lockdowns the device and disable the Bluetooth connection, there is no much use to it expect of 🔒 your JBL. i wish you the best of all 🌟
I had this same result almost identically. Except i'm trying to connect to my pc which also has 0 volume control 1 is the same as 100 and it's all loud af. haha sheesh. Any luck with a solution to the volume issue?
@@Emoryj1 I found that after setting the speaker volume to 0, if I set the volume of the media player (YT Music in my case) to a lower number as well, I was able to turn it down to a bearable level.
Sooo… Update… I got it to work…. HOWEVER you have to use something that powers the unit is what im thinking?? Originally I wanted to plug it into a synthesizer to play my music through my charge 5. I tried plugging it into my computer and it definitely DID work 😂 🎉🎉 Great video! Lol im curious if you have a good work around suggestion for making it possible to use it with my or anyone’s synthesizer? 😁
Hey, man can I ask wich version of the firmware do you have on the charge 5 cause when I try to use it wired it does not work, it goes to service mode but it does not show as a device when is connected to the laptop or you can have a suggestion why is not working, maybe jbl changed something on newer ones?
I am trying to use the Aux cable connected to my JBL Clip 2 to the TV headphone jack. Yet the sound coming out from the JBL speaker is very low. I tried to increase volume in both devices but no use.
This was really helpful, abee only the problem is in Windows 11 the speaker is very loud and will not be quiet with normal settings from Windows and the tqste also on speakers does not work.
Great site - thank you! Question, what button combo changes two paired JBL speakers from party mode ( which I assume is playing mono through both) to stereo mode?
@Jie Yu I received few comment from people who shared that its not work the best on windows, but @Adryano Fortie contributed a great solution, I quote: elaborate solution using that you can use either the "stereo mix" (native app - windows), or the cable out (third app - windows), or BlackHole 2ch (third app - MacOs) If you are interested in understanding how it works, here is a video tutorial:ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-01HnvWc_PxY.html Let me know if it helps
Getting rid of analog 3.5 mm input really restricts what you can do with it. And why does Bluetooth still have delays in 2024? Bluetooth sucks! Cmon people... Wtf?
thanks man, I was looking for something like this to read here, I was also in doubt because if it was safe then it would have been mentioned on the Instruction manual, One mistake and it's gone !!
Cool! This is a perfect way to create a portable, battery powered (bass)guiitar amp in combination with a headphone amp (pa Vox). Will it work with the JBL Charge 5 too?
i had a problem, the method works, i set the JBL Flip 5 into services mode, but i can't control the master volume on my pc, even if i set it to 2% or to 80% on the windows option, the sound is the same, it sounds at the max volume, if i set it from the apps i use it's ok, but every windows 10 sound is at the 100% the whole time, how can i fix it? i changed the usb port, and restared the pc but didn´t work

Hello everyone, I have the following problem with my JBL flip 5. The problem is the buttons function doesn't same like the figure on them. For example when I press the volume up button, the function is "play", when I press the volume down button, the function is "volume up" and etc. In that situation the "partyboost" button doesn't work like that, it works like "volume down". If anyone has the same problem, please answear me. Thanks in advance!
Thank you for the great question. When the speaker is used this way the energy of the battery is flows away but at the same time its charged , it keeps the battery level. So when i use the speaker this way i make sure the battery level at max 90% Hope it helps, i wish you the best of all 🙌
in my way if my speaker had no aux port then i whoud buy a headphone adapter micro usb c and then i whoud use an aux cable to plug into the headphone adpter micro usb c and then i whoud plug in into my phones aux port
@@JumperTL so I just tried and nothing happened, but how they connect the JBL Clip 4 in service mode then, because I see many plugged on the store you know, if it works maybe it's a different combination in clip 4
This Video is a little decieve, there is no option of Aux port there, It just showes us how to connect the JBL to the computer. It will not work with a synth or mp3 players that use a aux cable and doesn't have bluetooth.
Thanks for sharing this! I'm still getting some interference when I try to use the partyboost feature after connecting my flip 5s to my pc using bluetooth. Any suggestions?
The port you show is a USB port (which is for charging) not an aux port (which is for audio) maybe, I am missing something, but do you actually know what you are talking about ?
@Ar kar I would love to help you, I believe we will succeed! My first question is Did you enter your JBL FLIP 5 to services mode (By pressing on the Bluetooth and play button)? When JBL is on service mode none of the buttons should respond, this is the state of your speaker?
Hey, there is a problem with my charge 5, it goes to service mode, but it doesn't show up as a device and there's no output, do you have any suggestions, maybe jbl changed something on the newer models?
Try a different cord. For instance, if your phone or digital camera uses the same type of cord, plug them into computer and see if it pops up. Some cables have USB file transfer capabilities, while others are solely for charging. I am 90 percent sure that this is what the two of you are dealing with.
Yeah, it also works with pulse 5, you need to hold bluetooth and share (infinity sign) for 10 sec, but than you can't adjust general volume of the pc though, is there an another way to connect pulse 5 and pc via usbc? thnx
I had to reset the speaker first by using Play and Volume + buttons. It took several attempts to enter service mode but it worked at the end 😀 Very useful video 👍
I made it into the aux mode! I got sound when I plugged it into my computer. However, I get no sound when I plug in my classic ipod. I was hoping to use this in a car for road trips. Can you tell me why my ipod will not play, even though it is connected to the charge 5 via this cable? Thank you again.
@@LevinsReview Thanks for getting back to me! I have a 5th generation video ipod. it uses the standard round headphone jack for listening. Here's some info about it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPod_Classic Thank you!
why didn't I see this video before, I have ordered 10 dollars Bluetooth transmitter... I could've saved my money! But is there possibility to control volume from the pc?? Like to set default volume for all apps
Thanks so much for your video. I want to connect it with my mac mini computer for long term use. I wonder if it can charge the speaker while plug in with the computer in this mode?
Hi Levin, thank you for the wonderful tips. I just followed your instructions but my Flip 5 does not seem to work with my Samsung S8 phone and a couple of other devices this way. Can you guide further please? The devices that I am attaching it to do not have the charging function. I am connecting to their headphone jacks. UPDATE: I am trying to hook it up to Positive Grid Spark Go. Anyone having done it is invited to comment. I’d be grateful for a solution. Thanks.
Unfortunately, this doesn't do anything for the real cases when you may need an aux input, like connecting a portable device that only provides an aux or headphone output.
@@mendezelcarismatico4623 Those work on host devices, like a phone, because a driver is needed to run the little converter. I seriously doubt one of those would be recognized by the speaker. I'll try it though.
Thank you for the great question, Unfortunately I don't have JBL flip 6. So I can speak from my own experience. But I can tell that JBL flip 5 is amazing speaker and serves me well for the last three years!
Alright. So the method is legit but the volume control is completet wack. I have tried to look for a way to lower the volume with no success. I have looked for the stereo mix solution. I have also looked for the "cableOut" thirdparty app but I can't seem to find it. What can I do?
