Own a 6 Speed Goldwing Manual, start from 2nd gear and not first. Get a T-shirt: ondowntheroadp... #hondagoldwing #goldwing1800 #motorcycles #motorcycleadventures
In Econ mode right. The DCT has random downshift algorithm issues that can be unnerving for some riders if they are not expecting it. That’s why you see them in Econ mode, getting dusted by manual trans GWs
Love my DCT bagger. Wouldn't consider a manual anymore, I feel the dct allows you to concentrate more on your surroundings and not have to worry about shifting as much.😊
@@OnDownTheRoadProductions No way a DCT gets dusted by a 6 speed. I'll challenge you and your manual on it with my DCT as I'm local in the Michigan thumb.
Hello JP congratulations. What color? Use second gear in tour to launch its amazing. There are hard down shifts with the DCT as it hunts for the right RPM, using Econ on a DCT mode softens the random hard down shift. Thank you for subscribing, great to have you here.
All I can say is I have a 1800 manual and never drove a dct. However the first bike I ever had was a 84 hondamatic 750 and I was 17, And that had 2 gears no clutch. And I really enjoyed that bike. Then at 19 got a 86 gl1200 gold wing interstate. Now I have a 02 1800. I've never drove a dct so I can not say nothing about it. But I will say when I get a new one it will be a dct.
I bought a 0 miles ‘18 Tour 6-spd last Fall. Love it! Although I only have about 600 miles on it so far, the 1-2 shift is kinda “clunky” compared to my old BMW K1200LT I used to ride. Maybe it’s an adjustment issue for the dealer to address but I’ll try the 2nd gear start. Plenty of torque with this engine! I agree with your other comments about the bike except I’m going to upgrade the windshield to one slightly wider(not taller though) for better hand wind management.
With a good rider, you'll never feel shifting, at any gear. Put a passenger on the back and they shouldn't feel anything 1 to 2, 2 to 3 etc., or in the reverse order. But, that takes practise. Sometimes you need to shift at a higher point. As far as starting out in a higher gear, you can start out in pretty much any gear you want. As a motorcycle instructor I would show students how I could start one of the class bikes, in 3rd gear, with a passenger, up a steep hill. No slip back and ride up the hill. And this was a 125cc bike. Mind you, do that all the time and you'l be replacing clutches pretty quickly.
Hello. Just like to give a quick comment and ask a couple of questions. The background is,- I am 99.9% sure that this November (2022) I will placing my order for a 2023 Goldwing Tour, hoping for it to arrive early next year ….but!... the inevitable question is DCT or manual? The problem is I am in the UK and you can not get a test ride on a manual for love or money. So I am stuck on this decision and I am trying to research this like mad before my final decision. But my research is just throwing up lots of conflicting information, usually bias by the model the person commenting happens ride. Perhaps someone can answer my basic question below to help me. My comments. In your video you say someone has a problem with “Slow Creep” on the DCT. Well I have never ridden a Goldwing before, and on a test ride yesterday, on a 2022 Tour, I found crawling “Slow Creep” really easy. The 2nd gear just happens as you slow down and I could drop it down to 1st allowing me to crawl at a lower speed than my normal walking pace. This was two up but no luggage. I currently ride a Honda ST1300 Pan European, and even without getting to know the Goldwing well, I found that it held its balance so much easier with far less input from me than the Pan European. No problem at all. Questions. For me the only issue I had with the DCT was that, although I can ride using a bikes power range, my usual, wife on the back, calm smooth relaxed non sporty riding style, with shifting up early and fuel economy in mind, left me wanting the DCT to go into a higher gear earlier than it wanted to. Long straights at a constant speed when a higher gear should not been a problem and was not when I did it manually. This left me wondering. Q. Which one is more fuel efficient, manual or DCT? Q. Are the gearing ratios different on the two models, or are they exactly the same with the DCT having a 7th gear/overdrive? Your answers to my questions would be very helpful, and an appraisal, from anyone who has miles of experience under their belt of both versions, giving what they think are the main differences; the pros and cons, of the manual and DCT would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
The manual is more fuel efficient. The gear ratios are different, not exactly the same. The manual in 6th you can go all day. The DCT Goldwing is the worst low speed handling bike made. The DCT requires occasional recalibrations The manual 6 speed shifts amazing, and is less expensive
I suppose 1st gear has to be low enough to cope with a steep hill start, fully loaded up with pillion, full bags and maybe a heavy rider too. No biggie.
@@OnDownTheRoadProductions I have had DCT and I did like it a lot but there are compromises handing over control to the ‘computer’. You do learn to ride around them and it does have some advantages over manual. Just does. But, I chose a manual GW this time around. I can understand exactly why DCT owners love them though and that’s why we have a choice on what we can get.
So you would forgo the safety and convenience of having the passenger being able to hold on securely for not getting hung up on the grab rails if the bike goes down? Interesting trade off. I am one of those converted riders who would never have even considered a dct; however, after riding the manual and the dct back to back for several hours…I am ordering the dct. Just saying.
While downshifts are a little wonky I will admit, down shifting means you're slowing down. I will accept wonky down shifts in exchange for extremely smooth up shifts, and no clutch to hold in traffic. I haven't come across a human yet that can up shift as well as the DCT.
I have a GW bagger 2021 dct and I can do everything a gearbox can, including slow creep. The GW drives through the dct comfortable and relax. no more gearbox for me.
What you DCT owners IGNORE is the dual clutch 2-4-6 / 1-3-5-7 hard downshifting when RPMs do not match the program. It is unnerving for many riders. Putting the DCT in econ mode helps, that’s why you see all videos from other channels in Econ mode when the film. Honda transmissions are not number one, unless they are manuals. If Toyota made a DCT for a motorcycle we would get one!! You listening Toyota? Another great reason to buy the manual version. With a 2nd gear launch I would evenly pace, even surpass a DCT under hard acceleration. With a speed shifter all the way!
Video title is "...manual vs DCT" but there is no actual comparison ride or commentary. Typical MC "review" video with too much chatter and minimal substance.
