Jimin doesn't need autotune everyone knows it, but they used it as an artistic choice here. I actually loved the way they did it.

I will say, I understand people saying "Jimin doesn't need the autotune" like obviously we know that and Jimin knows that. But I feel for the vibe of this song, he used it artistically to add drama. He's allowed to artistically express things by playing with autotune. It reminds me a lot of Suga using it in Shadow

He didn’t use autotune except for certain parts cause it’s such a great touch bc you can clearly see the conversations they're having between the lyrics: normal voice jimin that wants to be free from hiding, and the autotuned hardware jimin that says it's not the time yet so basically the autotune is his inner self talk when he wants to free himself and when he want to encourage himself. I hope u did understand this! The autotune is a stylistic choice. It's supposed to add to the dark aesthetic of this song. I love it. I love the fact it's not what people would assume to expect of a Jimin song. Love the fact that he's experimenting with his sound (just like how J-Hope did in his album). It proves how versatile they are. When they lifted Jimin up, to me it's like symbolism that he was "set free" and that's why he was in white when he stood up.

The autotune is not there to compensate for lack of vocal skills..its there to provide contrast n texture..to provide drama..to showcase the angst against the haters n negative voices.. This song is literally saying setting himself free...free from other's expectation of him...that includes how he should sound

Only Jimin gets to decide what his art is. We can enjoy it or walk away. I think it is a brilliance piece of art. Especially since it is a departure from what is expected. He doesn’t have to fit in a preconceived ideal.

Please understand what the song is about to understand why he chose auto tune .The auto tune is his inner voice putting poison in his mind so it purposefully sounding distorted and his pure voice is him trying to escape it telling himself to set him free. This is a story and art in the sound the dance and lyrics …. Jimin of course doesn’t need auto tune but he is telling you his story.

I love the auto tune. It’s not being used because he needs it. It is an artistic choice. And it suits the song and the album coming out so well. The two sides…when he comes out of the auto tune and is singing, the switch up hits so hard. It has impact. Also, the German is a poem that fits the song and the album perfectly.

His constant remarks about autotune was pissing her off. She gets it but he just needs a little time. He's not the only one who had issues with the use of autotune. This is art for the senses. Visual, hearing and lyrics all combined and those who got it felt it in their souls. It made me cry when I saw it.

70 Year old BTS Army here. The use of autotune is purely an artistic choice and I feel it is so perfect in this song. Obviously, Jimin likes it so it really doesn't matter what we think or like. I am puzzled why people want to keep his voice and music as what THEY want and not what Jimin wants. It is called growth. I am here to support him regardless of what others think. Period. Jimin has been burdened by his inner thoughts and he has been the member who has received the most death threats and hate. This is a clap back and I am here for it!!!

The autotone is his internal voices screaming. It's intentional and l love it. Jimin doesn't have only one voice. He has rapping voice, singing voice, raspy voice, talking voice, laughing voice and so much more. That's what so unexpected about jimin.

I understand that many people don't like autotune but he use it in a good way. you may not understand the deep meaning of the song: the conflict that Jimin has with himself. OMG, we all know that Jimin doesn't NEED autotune. He worked hard, composing and producing this peace of art to transmite his feelings and ideas and the autotune is just one touch that agrees with the concept of the song, adding some powerfull and darkness, especially on rap parts.

I don't understand why people bash autotune without knowing the context of which and how it's being used. We all know Jimin, we know or some thought they knew what he is capable of. If we look back to Shadow, Lie, TEAR, and so on. Whenever they are struggling with their personal demons and voices, their "second" voice is deep, and robotic (auto-tuned). Or it could be a backing voice seeming to have a conversation with them. People keep asking "who is this?" Or, "This is not Jimin," and so on. But it is Jimin. I think people were ready for Promise Jimin or Filter. However, they didn't expect the Jimin that Yoongi had been calling out for the longest time. Tony Montana is nothing compared to this present Jimin. I don't think people really thought what chapter two would bring in regards to all of BTS. Everyone was used to the rap line using their mixtapes as their outlets that were still censored to a point, and people were shocked when they got dark Hobi with his album. Out of all the members, Jimin and Hobi are the brightest of personalities. Hobi the sunshine, Jimin the "small little cute Mochi" the two most selfless members keeping everyone happy. But sometimes even those that shine the brightest, hold the most darkness within them. This was finally Jimin's time to let out those dark feelings housed within him, to speak his peace. "Hold a hand up for the past me, and set me free." He's done with the self-ridicule, he's done tip-toeing around the industry and all the negativity flung at him by those that don't wish to see him succeed, he's done being the image of what people want him to be packaged and sold as. He's finally embracing himself. I feel like no one was ready for one of the vocalists to take this route because Jin had to leave in a hurry and left us a precious goodbye but not for too long, song, so no one was ever going to be ready for Jimin. From Suga, RM, Hobi, and now Jimin, I wonder will Tae and JK continue to speak about their inner feelings? And if Jin will come back to do the same? Only time will tell.

Autotune is used in this for differentiation..he is having conversations with himself, his inner self and logic. . to not differentiate it you would lose the essence of his story of selves. The german poem by Rilke is the essence of jimin, the maze shaped like the Golden Ratio and Fibonacci , there is so much meaning in here it is art in every area, not only the dancing... i loved it because the story unfolds itself if you understand the rationale. Even the part 2 relating to part 1 of suga both of them are started with the exact same note..jimin is the most unique in his symbolism usage and coveyance of the story with tones and facial expressions. It is not a song, its a story to unfold...

the auto tune and distorted reverb was used to make his verses strong, aggressive and powerful. the lyrics done with the vocal effects actually knocks you out and lets us know he is serious when he tells the haters to ''shut up, fuxx off, get out my way''. this also reminded me of 'tony montana' vocally. this is jimin letting us know his attitude'' moving forward on his journey. the dancers were amazing and they mirrored the lyrics to tell the story of jimin's message perfectly. i loved everything about this mv. i am so proud of jimin, the angel becoming ferocious.

This song is such a banger, ive been waiting for it for ages and now it's finally here. I'm in love with the choreo as its so jimin. I love jimins vocals in the song aswell,vand the lyrics relatable aswell. I also love the MVs darker colours aka the black and blue as they really set the mood Jimins is trying to create and this is a side of jimin I've been waiting to see and I love it.

The thing about BTS is to never question their choices - vocally, lyrically, production-wise - because there is ALWAYS a reason, and it’s always smarter than any of us could ever hope to be. They are always miles ahead of us when planning/producing their art, whether it’s vocal or visual. You take out the auto-tune and it’s not the same song and lacks the impact. Smart as all get out.

EVERYONE knows Jimin doesn’t need auto tune, that’s a given and I’m pretty confident that Jimin was aware that using auto tune might cause some controversy and that there will be some who won’t like it but he probably said f***k it, this is what I want to do, this is how I want to express myself. He did say in an interview that this album is more for himself, this was something he needed to do. I learned that autotune is a common tool used by artists who want to add texture and layers to a song, it’s not just to help those who can’t sing. For me personally, I see SMFpt2 as Jimin’s anthem, his announcement to the world that he is CHOOSING to not hide anymore, not always doing what others expect of him, trying to live up to the expectations of others-that we will be seeing a Jimin being his true, authentic self, taking control of his life, piloting his own ship, and if you don’t like it, f***k off, get outta my way. I think Jimin is also using autotune as an artistic tool to represent all the different voices in his head telling him he is not good enough, he doesn’t measure up, comparing himself to others, causing him to doubt himself, afraid of making mistakes, that he has to always be “perfect,” the “lies” that have plagued him for years. I think we can all relate because we’ve all been there. I also believe the different voices represent the haters full of jealousy and envy with their death threats and malicious comments, those who want to see him fail. In one of his earlier interviews, Jimin said he didn’t like to be alone because of the all voices that filled his head (negative thoughts, I presume) and it scared him. I LOLVE the way Jimin used autotune in this song, I totally understand what he is trying to convey, I get it. For me, the entire MV is a creative genius of performance art and I understand what Jimin is doing; he is pushing past the well established K-pop boundaries and I’m here for it. Jimin said his album “FACE” is all about him taking a good hard look at himself, being totally honest with himself, confronting the “shadows,” his personal demons. It was a hard battle, he’s bruised and scarred but he won and this is his rebirth; a new Jimin. This MV is full of symbolism and references to other BTS songs, I think. When Jimin was lifted in the air, I immediately thought of “Lie.” I don’t know if this was a reference to that or not but it was the same movement. 10:48 IM SO GLAD SHE POINTED THIS OUT. when i first watched it, the choreography was off the charts in the story telling. as an army whose been there for most of their career, the choreography in this song literally tells the story of jimin without him having to sing and i personally love that🫶 and whoever came up with the choreo. i don’t see many people talking about it which is a bummer if you ask me. The texture of this song is incredible and would absolutely 100% not be as impactful without the auto tune changing the vibe. He’s making up for not having 7 unique voices to catch the ear and telling a story through sophisticated use of electronic voice manipulation. He doesn’t “need” it. He chose it for a reason. I think people need to understand that this is Jimin. If Jimin didn't want to experiment then he wouldn't. He did that to make himself sound more aggressive while he was talking back and forth with himself I believe. There's always reason to what Jimin does. He wouldn't do anything he wasn't comfortable doing or was against. Everyone knows how insane Jimins voice is and how he can sing so like you said, he's telling a story and when you tell stories you don't tell it in the same monotonous voice, you change tones, accents and pitches to express more detail. He absolutely needed that auto tune else the story wouldn't of made sense.

For this album he has said that he wants to show different sides of himself. Perhaps that is why he chose to have the different auto-tuned voices on this song. Regardless, we know that he doesn't need it, but it was purposeful and meant to evoke some meaning/emotions. I personally think the first four lines of the song is actual voice not auto-tuned. And I love all the vocals he used here and ARMY will die if we hear it live.

The auto toon was used artistically not to hide his voice. wrote and co produced the song, he had a say in what it sounded like and he obviously liked it. This is his first solo album and like the song said the old jimin is in the past this is the new jimin..

JIMIN chose this song as his pre-release track on an album with only 6 songs like he knew what he was doing with the autotune like he said in the song it's his time to do what he wants and shake off people's expectations of him - the song is amazingly produced and the juxstaposition of the heavy autotune on and in between the verses and the crystal clear "look at me now" piercing through the mix and the crystal clear chorus has a more intense impact because of the production choices. i can condone general public ignorance, but when people who claim to also be artists or knowledgable about perfomance art and music say weird comments (other than 'just saying it's their personal preference) it doesn't make sense to me... because from a technical sense you can easily understand the choices made in this song where used to create a certain emotional response and overall vibe. this is what he wanted to do, if people don't like it, they're entitled to their opinions but like he said - "shut up, f**K off" :) his words not mine LOL

The message is clear as New york Bell. This selection of autoune was strategically placed to bring the production to life. persons have been dealing with hate and death threats. It's will cause distress, so the Autotune is perfectly placed. One major line gives to its meaning (going in sane, to stay sane). When he found strength , his voice was in its natural state. But every time haters surrounded him, Autotune was distressed. BTS are deep thinkers when it comes to anything that they do. It comes from deep down within to know your worth because you can't change what others say or do.

I think it’s a little funny how you guys where saying like “It’s jimin, he doesn’t need auto tune” and even though I agree bc he already has a beautiful voice, in this case I think the use of autotune in certain sections was necessary. This whole song is about him evolving and, as his lyrics state, “raise your hands for the past me. Now, set me free” To me that means he wants to be set free from the expectations people have of him and his career when he was younger. Yes, let’s “raise our hands” for the things he’s done bc he’s always been amazing, but let’s “now set him free” to evolve and experiment with his music. I think the sections with autotune can be perceived as one of his personas that’s finally kinda creeping out in this new phase of jimin as an artist. Of course this is no hate!! As @Dawn Fried commented, it is used artistically, and strategically in exactly the right places with the intention to make the song and Jimin’s vocals a little edgy. Ppl who have followed Jimin and BTS know that they hardly ever use autotune (no need to) and when they have, it’s been for artistic purposes.🟢🟢🟢 Jimin has worked hard throughout the years on his vocals to experience and add something different to his impressive skills. In his interview with Jin (Jimin Behind-Be), he clearly expressed his desire to explore different genres in the future. SMF is a Masterpiece sung and performed by the best, Jimin. As a Jimin bias, I thought the understanding was there that autotune would be an artistic stylistic choice to differentiate the different personas narrating the angst. Seeing that was a bit disappointing. Not everyone has to like the song, sure, but at least look into the meaning behind this song and album (there are interviews and videos) before critiquing the work. I don’t like autotune myself but it depends on how it’s used, and I personally think it was used here tastefully. Jimin said his album and tracks follow a storyline. This is the last track (excluding the eng version of like crazy), conclusion to the story. Like crazy will probably deal with “going insane to stay sane” part.

Don't think of autotune as a corrective device for weak singers but as another instrument the same way synthesizers are used. Real singers have been using autotune this way for decades now. As others here have said, it was an artistic choice.

We all know Jimin doesn't need autotune. It's his artistic choice. Maybe that was how he wanted to convey his angst with the theme of the song, which in my opinion, he m he's accomplished. Also Siena Lalau has been credited for contributing to the choreography. They probably used more than one.

I fk with the auto-tune heavy on this. It's so present that it's obvious it was intentional for dramatic effect and it works perfectly. Also a voice like his makes the auto-tune sound so cool and like something out of this world, it's like a different instrument that helps bring the message of the song to a whole different level. What I don’t understand is yoongi, Hobi everyone else uses auto tune to give it layers and to use it more as an artistic flare to give the “umph” to the lyrics and vocals to make it stand out more, but no one ever says anything negative to them. Y’all missing the point! Haha jimin intentionally did this to break free from the bubble that people always put him in that he only sings high notes and that he only has a soft airy voice. He is literally trying to show he can do BOTH. Most artist don’t ever vere away from the original sound because people will react like this and I guess since I’m a singer I understand 100% why they chose to over auto tune some parts of the song. Obviously jimin is INCREDIBLE without it but people always think auto tune is associated with not being able to sing or to help tune their voice to sing on key but that’s not the reason jimin used it for! He was rapping that’s why they put the autotune. But when he is done rapping afterwards he was singing and he’s so amazing. The vibe of the song requires for him to use autotune. And remember he is experimenting with music as a solo artist. So we can’t always compare the “bts” jimin to the new Jimin that he is trying to express. And the message of the song if you’re listening to it the lyrics is better if he sing/rap it that way. Imagine him being mad and cussing in his normal tone( which is sweet) doesn’t match the lyrics. So I feel like it needed to sound that way. That’s what I am feeling here.

Professional people like vocal coaches, producers or dj who react to the mv said the same thing, the autotune really fits the song vibe and it helps to highlight certain part in the song. People need to change their pov that autotune used only to fix or change the vocal but the actual purpose is to add elements to the music if it's done correctly.

i don't know if you understand the stylistic feel of 'software' and 'hardware' that Jimin is embodying in this album. that has been in the trailers and as army, i understand why he used autotune in certain parts of the song. it's some sort of a conversation between his inner self and the 'opposition' he and the rest of the bts members have been battling for years. this is a story. his story as an artist. props to Jimin for being intentionally artistic and creative and of course, Brave.

I've never in all my life heard so much fuss about what is clearly deliberate, stylistic autotune. There's no attempt to cover it up, which is what happens when people who need autotune use it, they try to hide it in the production. This comment is not directed just at you guys in particular, there's no hate, I'm just amazed by so many people not realizing it's a deliberate, artistic choice.

Just adding my opinion, I think we got so accustomed to hearing sweet lil ole Jimin that can sing ballads and hit high notes that the autotune is just friggin jarring to our ears. We know that Jimin can dance and sing(my god), however to alot of ppl he is just a visual, he's just a pretty face that has a unique voice, he's not a JK plus we've never seen Jimin go off like this, not even with his stage performances, like to dance and to express himself freely nah Which I think helped push Jimin into SAVAGE MODE and we have to respect his decisions when it comes to the stylistic choices in his music or peformances.

Jimin used autotune for its intended purpose. Not to correct his voice, but enhance it, to give it layers, he used it stylistically in parts of the song he wanted to use it. His voice is perfect as is but even with the choices in autotune, still perfect.

Regarding the autotune. (This is my take anyway.) If you aren’t familiar with the shadow concept take a listen to Map of the Soul album. This entire MV is a callback to the ON song and the shadow that we all have. Jimin even sings twice “gotta go insane to stay sane” as they sang in ON. This is about Jimin confronting his own shadow. So…back to the autotune. To me the autotune was Jimin’s shadow talking. Saying things that deep down he sometimes honestly feels like saying. (And given the hate he has received over the years it is understandable.) Notice when he is singing “set me free” that crazy autotune is gone and he sounds more like himself. Except when lifted up in the air and the set me free sounds different but can’t figure it out. The poem on his chest ends with “I still don’t know-am I a falcon, a storm, or a great song.” I think this was “the storm”.

Sorry you didn't understand why he used the autotune, it was to bring attention to his inner struggles. I thought it was a masterpiece, yes we know and he knows the great vocals he has. Just saying he went outside the box to create this song!

Think of his song Filter...the change of clothes, loosing accessories, the filters on his voice going from his inner voice to deep inner thoughts to him finally being free to his true self. The auto tune works. Rewatch with that thought in mind instead of thinking they are just trying to cover up his voice.
