Carl Froch & George Groves are back with The Verdict, after Oleksandr Usyk beats Tyson Fury by split decision to become the unified, undisputed, heavyweight world champion.

A 3 stone disadvantage? It depends if that 3 stone is muscle or fat really... He didn't have to chase Fury, that was his tactics and Fury was hardly stationery. Fury didnt use his longet reach to his advantage anyway... he was too busy messing about showboating 🤦🏻‍♂️

no one will repeat such a distinguished sports career as Usik’s! Usik has fought more than 300 fights as an amateur, European champion, World champion, Olympic champion, absolute champion in cruiserweights, and now absolute champion in super heavyweight!! Usik is a super boxer! and the referee saved him from Knockout in the 9th round, he stopped and started counting for almost 20 seconds and allowed Fury to come to his senses! The referee simply doesn’t know that in pro boxing they don’t count a standing knockdown, they only stop for a technical knockout!! rematch Fury will fall and not get up or the referee will stop the fight round 6!! since Usik studied it completely!! Fury has no room to grow, he has stopped developing!!

Let's not overlook round eight, isn't that when Usyk broke Fury's nose?
@theartofdoingnothing4755
@theartofdoingnothing4755 4 месяца назад
I am really surprised no one managed to break down the real reason Fury took the middle rounds. Usyk simply invited Fury to throw more. He was always in front of his face in order to make him throw and empty the Gass tank. In the 8th Fury was ready to be hit and that exactly is what happened.

Round 9 usyk was about to close the show if the ref steps in at that point it should have been to wave it off for a stoppage TKO to save further damage to fury at that point. Ref and judges were bias. If it wasn’t for the one honest scoring judge the fix was in and the world witnessed it. So many dodgy officials it’s becoming way too obvious if that was possible. Credibility is being destroyed by bent officials it’s gonna destroy the sport with genuine hard working fighters being ripped off. Thats how I see it. What can be done.

"save further damage to Fury"? You know this is boxing, right? The fact that Fury almost won in the end shows that the ref was right to let it continue.

@@teacherdoug1797 That’s like saying well he was about to be stopped so I stepped in to give him a chance as I know if he can just clear his head he can carry on. We know fury can recover quickly but he was gone and about to be finished off. The ref saved him.

Great Podcast! Exactly the point, Groves - and to which I completely allude: Usyk must strategise to ramp up his all-round game for 12 complete rounds; quite topsy-turkey but devilish in construction to the peril of each opponent: Debois - Joshuas, twice - Fury. Not discrediting Usyk's punch power in any way in early rounds, but that coupled with his protocol to outwork opponents and his efficient and accurate fast-handed combos, Usky's opponents psychologically wilt in the championship rounds KNOWING USYK'S INEXHAUSTIBLE ENGINE IS HIS MIGHTY STRENGTH!

I can't remember what round but it was in the second half of the fight. Usyk lands an over hand left right on Furys right cheek/nose and it stunned Fury, he was really surprised by the power and that was the beginning of the end for Fury! The right man won the fight a man who unified the belts and was undisputed Cruiserweight champion and now he has unified the belts and is undisputed heavyweight world champion. That takes some doing and I don't think he is getting enough credit for that. Notwithstanding these guys are giving him the credit he deserves!

Riules are that if the ropes are the only thing keeping you up, the ref can rule it as a knockdown and can give you a count. Each ref in any individual situation assesses things on their merit in the moment so the black & white rules are not always adhered to but were this time. The fact that Fury boxed on and even had a fairly strong last round may attest to the validity of the refs decision in that moment.
@jacobmakob1

I haven't seen any analysis yet but what I saw from Usyk was a great deconstruction of Fury. Fury likes to set up his jab then lay on a big 1-2 over the top of the opponent's guard, but Usyk (as we saw with AJ) is great at spoiling a jab. He kept his guard really high all the way through, which allowed him to close the distance and have his hands close to Fury, while blocking the jab. Usyk took a lot of body shots as a result, and must be peeing blood now, but the gameplan worked. Fury might have thrown more uppercuts but I honestly don't see what more he could have done, he was obviously in the best shape and was fighting for his life, but it wasn't enough.

Usyk is a fantastic boxer, with a true warrior's heart, and probably VERY physically strong, and this means that his opponent by some reason ends up fighting from the back foot instead of being able to put constant pressure on him, which would be natural to do against a significantly smaller boxer. It would have been interesting to see him face Joy Joyce..well, before his chin finally gave up last year 😟
