The countdown is on for the British & Irish Lions’ 2025 tour to Australia, with Ireland Head Coach Andy Farrell leading the team Down Under.
But which players are in pole position to pull on the famous red jersey by the time of the first Test?

Those selections just show how much all the other coaches and coaching teams need to pick up the pace and build some more competitive teams. The Unions have some work to do as well especially in England and Wales.

Fun discussion. To be fair, as an Irish fan, I can never recall a time when I expected us to win pretty much every game. Of course a lot can happen and it's at moments like these when you're prone to an upset or the opposition will surprise you by pulling out a performance you didn't think them capable of.

@@kimpembe4594 I think Farrell will want a big abrasive ball carrier towards the end of the game to punish a tired team and add some additional bulk to a pack. Yes he is past his best but for a 20 minute cameo at the end of the game he could do a job.

I am English and I want England to stop picking Billy V (I think we have) let alone the best of the home nations team. But thanks for throwing out a bone - one maybe 2 England players deserve to be in the team, maybe mid weekers at the moment.

I can agree with most of their very overlapping choices. But Lawrence at 13 will mean Ringrose has never been on a Lions test team. A bit surprised Henshaw rather than Aki at 12.

That back three from Healey is ridiculous, apart from Lowe. I side more with Stringer but don't think VdM is a definite. Whatever the team, it should be a 3-0 destruction of Australia.

Based on performances over the last couple of years, the bulk of any Lions team would be Ireland based. Probably 10 or 11, are definites.

Honestly it amazes me that people rave about Ben Earl . Yes he is playing amazing, BUT we had Sam Simmons available for 6 years who is a better version of Ben Earl and hardly got picked . Now they act like Ben Earl is something new. Its yet another case of English rugby picking someone to play a way that we already had but ignored

Worthy mentions: Jac Morgan - fantastic all-rounder and leader. Tom Curry - if ever there was the epitome of a Lion. Garry Ringrose (as said below) - but I do agree with Lawrence, he is sensational. Alex Mitchell - on the up-curve Ellis Genge - can he improve his scrummaging? Mason Grady - bolter this six nations. Hungry Can't help thinking there's a prop or two from Scotland and Wales...Schoeman comes to mind. Seen decent propping talent emerging in Wales...

It'll be a totally different XV when the time comes. All the so-called experts pick their team a few years out, yet they are always wrong, form changes so quickly in rugby. Look how many of the last Lions team were mentioned.
