We went out catching squids on the Shorncliffe Pier over the weekend. We knew it's going to be jam pack as usual so we went early and secured the best position. Loads of people managed to catch squids that night and I thought I would share my top 3 tips on how to catch a squid.

How long can u keep a dead squid in a bucket for? Shorncliffe is about an hour from my home

I would say a few hours during winter nights ... they don't really go off that quickly.

In general you could get breams, flathead and even sometimes threadfin salmon on the jetty. But in recent years that place is over fished. I haven't been back for a long while so not sure what people catch there any more. Good luck.

Have u caught squid at manly before? I went a few weeks ago and spent most of my time looking for squid with a torch. Before you throw your jig in, do u look around first or do u just throw in your line and hope for the best?

What you are referring to is sight casting. I have a Ryobi led spotlight and that's great for this purpose but I never get any luck with sight casting. I just cast, retrieve, repeat many times until I get one.
