Random comments to random comments... "Why are old guys watching my videos?" Your vids popped up when I first started collecting house plants and your experience was a couple years more than mine and I found your videos easy to follow as opposed to following an Expert. Also, you remind me of one of my favorite people. Before the pandemic, I spent lots of time with my niece. After the pandemic, and being 19, her life is full and our visits are few. I am one of those people who will play your videos in the background of my life simply for the pure joy of hearing your ramblings and stories. Thanks for that. "Should I write a book?" I feel that if you approached a book the way you edit a Q&A, it would be a big hit. The way you wander off subject and speak Your Truth, is entertaining and joyful. Thanks again.
I put stress coat (a quarter tsp per gallon) in my tap water and it has helped A LOT! Stress coat dechlorinates and is supposed to remove dissolved metals and other impurities. Stress coat is what folks who keep fish add to the water that the fish live in.
Maybe you could chop and prop the double growth on your domesticum so you could have an aesthetic one and investigate what happens with the double growth?? Also, completely obsessed with your KOS- every time I see that in your cabinet I love it! Gotta get myself one someday!
Orchid nut here 🤚 you can cut the spike off on the orchid, it won’t rebloom from the same spike. I would wait to repot when you see new “bulb” starting to emerge. That way if any roots get damaged in the repot you’ll know there will be a fresh batch coming in from the new growth.
At 16:07 I think I see a mealie in the new leaf. I HOPE I am wrong and it's just the shine of the leaf. You have such a stunning collection I love these videos! I hope your plants keep growing really healthy and happy for you!
I have had the same issue with my Florida Ghost, and what helped for me was moving her further away from the light. That made the leaves start turning minty/green again, I was so relieved!
Yup! Mine was originally only putting out green leaves, then I moved it into a southeast facing window and she started putting out white ghosty leaves! Then she put out TOO many white leaves that didn't revert, so I moved her behind my curtain and the leaves are minting off now! One of the few plants with variegation that changes depending on light level.
I’ve always been told to water calathea/maranta with distilled because they’re so sensitive to the salts/chlorine in tap water! It’s the only thing that keeps the tips of mine from turning brown!
You can buy more curtain rod holders and make sure you have them screwed into wood and your plants shouldn’t pull the rod down. Also more holders is better so the rod doesn’t bend
Nice opening, great way to start the day. On the Florida Ghost, I'm wondering if moving her to a slightly darker spot would have her go more green? Your plants all look so healthy :)
Yes, the water thing is so tricky! I have a handful of ctenanthe & carnivorous plants, and because I have well water (no chloramine/fluoride) I was also watering them with my tap water, however well water can still have a lot of minerals and dissolved solids, my TDS is around 70-120ppm depending on temperature of the water. I recently switched to watering them with water from a ZeroWater pitcher which removes pretty much everything. On the new growth I think I'm already seeing less brown/crispy tips and edges.
Okay so... I JUST got a Moodeanum hybrid X Magnificum, and I CANNOT wait to see the new leaf now after seeing how red yours is!! Even though I've got a hybrid, it has the Moodeanum colouring 😍😍
I think I commented about not watering calathea with tap water under that previous video. It's honestly what has worked for me too so i second that notion. Although I use rainwater and that works aswell. It's the chemicals that are used to clean the tap water that are too harsh for the cells in the thin leaves.
So happy to hear Mooncat sponsoring you. Love the colour you are currently wearing!!! Love your Maranta - Silver Band. So beautiful, especially flowering. I use rain water on all my Calatheas. Honestly, they still get crisp edges. My Warscewiczii is still struggling. I am waiting to see if planting in Leca will help. All the leaves died off, but a new shoot is emerging.
I'm here for keeping the plants that bring you joy and not every plant for the sake of it! I've embraced attending plant swaps and leaving things on the freebie table in the last year, and it's a weight off my mind to not have a "eh" section of plants I don't love but don't want to throw away. But if I don't have time, it's to the curb.
I'm thinking maybe give the FL ghost less light and more airflow? Less light will make the leaves already emerge minty or maybe fade down to green faster.
Fern, I just have to tell you that my hoya chicken farm, which I got a couple years ago after seeing yours, has put out a SECOND peduncle (had none when I bought it) and is working on blooming that second one! Thank you for inspiring me to get it. It's a fave 💚
I’ve recently discovered your channel and while looking at your nails I have reapplied nail polish after months. Pretty sure I’ll shop for new colours 😊 glad that it’s vegan too
First off that new leaf on that Anthirium Libianum is beautiful 😍 second, your orchids might start growing more and bloom if you water them with black tea mixed in to whatever you're feeding them. I have a phalaenopsis orchid in rehab that I've been using black tea mixed with used aquarium water and it's grown sooo many roots back since I've started using it. Great tour Fern if your looking to thin or your jungle I suggest doing like I did and make a Facebook post offering up few plants.
Fern!!!! I just got my FIRST.....WAITTT FORRR ITTTTT.....Monstera Deliciosa....ah!!!! I can scream...and may I say your hair looks fabulous, it's getting so long!! ❤
Thanks to you I bought numerous Mooncat nail polish. I wish you had the sponsorship then! The next time I buy some I’ll use your link! I am in love with your Palidiforum! The video that came out tonight 05/10 is me unboxing mine and I wasn’t happy, but it grew on me and I love her too. I just want it like yours 😂. Definitely show your repot of your monstera!
Sooo excited that you got a MoonCat sponsor! I’ve loved their polishes for years too and love all that I have purchased. 😍 Maybe I’ll have to pick up a few more… 🤔😂
I just received my blue land supplies that I ordered after the last video sponsored by them. I used the toilet tablet. And boy do they work. Toilet looks fantastic. Thank you for the suggestion, again.
Been watching your videos for some time now..your plant collection is amazing! Everything so beautiful and thriving so nicely…I can see you put lots of hard work in …job well done
I’ve noticed that less light produces greener leaves on the Florida ghost and more light keeps the leaves more white. Experiment with less light in the area where you keep it. Had nothing to do with food, water or humidity.
Have you ever read sundial? It’s eerie. The vibes are there especially for summer. Your plants are legit doing so good, your collection looks so different than your last apartment
Love your videos. And my pepperomia is finicky. She was almost unalived lol and then I tried distilled water and she perked right up lol. I use tap water for all my orchids, carnivorous plants and houseplants. Also yes you can cut the flower spike on your orchid now that it's done blooming.
Oh yay, congrats.. you’ve got me hooked ever since I asked you about the blue polish, something hades. I just put n another Oder suppose to be here tomorrow 7 new colors, so glad they’re sponsoring you!
So good to know im not the only one who notices the awesome nail polish colors LOL!! I was gonna ask if you get them done professionally, the polish looks amazing and like it doesnt chip. I just heard of moon cat recently from Pinterest. Will be placing an order soon!
Oh my gosh the big transparent pots are a dream! I want to switch to transparent pots going forward so any repot will be in a transparant one but have yet to find any clear big ones locally. Shipping from Canada is too pricey but now that I know that they exist I'll look again to see if I can find some around here!! 😮
Hi fern! So excited to see this video! We would LOVE to see a video of you repotting your monstera aurea maybe discussing its special care and tips to keep them healthy. Mine is struggling! Ive got such bad browning and crisping no matter what i try with this plant. Thanks! Love your channel ❤️
@wildfern I've had a really bad day, A really bad day. Plus a migraine and I fell asleep watching videos. But then I woke up. Saw you had a new video and watched it. Then I was so upset by something you said. I just wanted to take the time to encourage you.. Maybe you don't have a big sister or an auntie to tell you these things. But You Need To Hear This!!! When you said you wanted to get rid of some plants because the family was coming and you didn't want to look crazy, It broke my heart. 😢 You should be so proud of yourself!!!! You are succeeding at something and started a successful career and business for yourself and you're so young. You've made a real name for yourself. This is your job !!!! Plants are your job and career!!! ❤ Yes, you have a lot of them, but people would not be as interested if you didn't have so much.. Of course who you are is a big part where people tune in. But people also want to see a variety of things. And how they grow... And how they're growing for you and what you're doing. The more you have to show off, the better. The more you have, the more content you have. You and your boyfriend should say so. You both should be so proud and his family should be proud too. You are a real catch. I've seen you. We all have through some heartbreak. But it looks like you've come through that. I think this is a very good year for you. You are succeeding in something you didn't even go to school for, In fact it's quite the opposite. You are living the american dream, I know you're not american, but you know what I mean. I can't think of one person who wouldn't want the thing that brings them the most joy to be their career! How amazing., Never be ashamed. You rock it, you Should look his family straight in the eye And tell them how proud you are of yourself. How happy you are to have success and a career. You love so much. .. That is also your passion. You're able to stay home, not have to work with a bunch of asshole associates. Instead, you get to sit in your living room. And you are not a lazy girl, you get up very early and work very hard. They might not understand it at first, but if you explain it, they will. You get to be at home with your dogs.. The best associates in the world. And they don't have to go to like doggy day care. You are literally living the dream. I would love to be able to show off my plants and have the guts to go in front of the camera like you do. It takes a lot of guts And also, you're totally real and a sweetheart. You are a successful entrepreneur, And don't you forget it.😊 To be honest years and years ago, when I started watching your channel, I didn't watch that often. I don't think you showed your true self, Quite like you do now. You are very peaceful to watch, I think you've really come into yourself. How I never miss an episode. your true self is very lovable and adorable And you can tell you're completely confident. Look them straight in the eye... If you are confident, they will believe it and they will be proud of you. Hopefully, your boyfriend does the same and gushes about how amazing it is that you have been successful in this. only A very small percentage of the people that try become successful in youtube. All the other plant tubers. I watch must watch you too. Because I've heard them comment, about your videos here and there. You're not crazy. You're actually a miracle. God bless, sweetheart. I know it's gonna go great. Cause who wouldn't love you. ❤
I watched Fern when she had far fewer plants, so I wouldn't say that people wouldn't want to watch her if she didn't have so many. She's heavily inspired my own collection as well.
I learned you can water plants with plain club soda it’s actually really beneficial if you look it up! you can make it with a soda stream I just got a free one! I’m excited to try a plant friend of mine waters all hers with it 😮
Congrats on the mooncat sponsorship! 🌙 That’s very cool. I intimately understand the “less crazy” goal 😂. Every time people come over, it’s a wild scramble to make things look a little less unhinged 😆 🪴💚
Unless it’s just really weird lighting, you have a gray & white large leaf plant in your cabinet 😮 Im dying to know what that is! As a former orchid grower, once the blooms are finished, just cut the spike off. No worries.
MOONCAT?!? SO HAPPY FOR YOUUU! i have been watching your videos nonstop! ILYSM! Edit: I PUT LUNACAT INSTEAD OF MOONCAT- sorry lol! love your videos lol
Your cuprea makes me so excited for mine to grow! I think it freaked itself out recently though by throwing out a huge leaf randomly, so it's slowed down quite a bit 😂 I have the same issue with my Florida ghost, I've moved them to lower light but its made marginal difference so far :/ I don't usually care about folks sponsorships, but the mooncat one is exciting! I can't even paint my nails but I'm wishing for a mooncat x wild fern collection 🤞🏻👀
