Description______
In this video i'm showing how to make a
Variable power supply with both voltage & current control 1-30 volts and 0-10A.
Both voltage and current can be controlled with Potentiometers, Multi-turn potentiometers is good for high precision settings. Where output load should be under 10 Amperes.
And required big heatsink with cooling fan for effective cooling.
Also required DC Volt Ampere meter to monitor the output.
Parts Required_____
TIP3055 & BD139 Transistors
LM7805 & LM317 voltage regulators
10k, 220 ohms resistors + 1 LED
10k Multi-turn potentiometers
2x 1N4007 diodes
1x 5v dc cooling fan
1x DC volt cum Ampere meter

To make it constant we need to add feedback so that it will sense drop and add that dropped voltage to make it constant. For that different circuit need based on UC3843 ic. I'll soon upload that variable power supply too, stay updated. Thanks 😊

Excellent 👍 I assembled a circuit with LM317 in 1992 (I remember ) . But it is not this versatile. It is a hobby circuit. No current amplifier. Now, I will assemble this circuit. Thank you very much 👍

I bought 10 PCB and all listed parts for 10 regulators, but when I build it the R4 220 Ohm always burn out. I have tried 3 different resistors but all same. Do you have any idea why?

Why does your parts list say 2x 1N4007 are required and your schematic shows 2 (1 to fan and other is between the 139 and the 317), yet the gerber board is only showing 1 (fan). Can you clarify please?

this is all great , but if you short the output or overload it it will blow up very fast. Also the current control doesnt really work well , you can see as soon as you hit the treshhold of that driving transistor it just turns on all the way to 3.8 amps

The one 2N3055 is too little for 10A current.You need to use at least two same transistors.

Yes, you can use 2x in parallel, each is 15A Rated, not 2N3055. It is TIP3055

No, lm317 is there to give reference voltage to transistor, so that it will draw same from input to output, lm317 is cheaper & easily available.

In pcb layout pdf , back side pcb layout is ok, but front side is not mirrored.so ,if we print on paper ,it will not useful .because its front will not fit on back pcb layout.so, we have to print first page as mirror and second page as it is.

Actually this is the basic circuit, we need to make it with feedback to solve this issue, That can be achieved by adding pwm control ic with feedback. I'll soon upload that project also.

Actually voltage can't be raised above 30v as per datasheet ofain component lm317. You can increase amperage tolerance by adding more TIP3055 Transistors.

I recommend you to watch full video, J7 is connector for 5v dc & measuring dc line with volt/ ampere meter, also J9 is pass through to measure output load, And details appear in display of volt/ampere meter. WATCH FULL VIDEO

@@CreativeTechosHello, it is me again, with another question. Will this circuit work with a 24 volt input? I realize that the output would be limited to 24 volts as well. This is fine for my needs. Would I need to change any of the components to different values? If so, which ones? I have been given an old, transformer based, power converter. I would like to use it to power this circuit that you designed. It converts 110 volt mains AC to regulated 24 volt DC. It is rated for 10 Amps (8 Amps continous). There are no adjustments on this device. It did not work when I received it. One of the diodes in the bridge rectifier had failed. I replaced all four with larger higher rated diodes. I have tested it under various loads and the output holds a solid 24.2 volts, except for small, momentary, fluctuations when loads more than 5 Amps are first switched on. I am looking forward to your response.

Yes you can use it, under 30v input can be used anywhere between 12-30v . Also you can use step down transformer with above 10A bridge rectifier with at least 2200 uf filter E-capacitor

The maximum input dc should be supplied 30v. You can use SMPS also

for sure! check the voltage on load in the video: it drop from 12,5 to 10V!!! at only half of the promised currrent!

Oh nooo, you need to give rectified dc to this circuit input, that you can get by using bridge rectifier with a 1000uf to 2200uf capacitor otherwise it will damage components or will not work properly.

You can simply download related files from video description, and you can upload gerber zip file to jlcpcb.com to get pcbs manufactured, or pcb layout pdf files can be used to make diy pcb at home, or use circuit diagram for reference and make same connections while assembling on the zero PCB.
