Your Sympathetic Strings resonate very nicely. I wish I could get mine to sound that resonant! Haha.

Thank you for sharing. So when we buy strings for a sitar we need to ask for which style sitar we have?

If you were to tune in C#, would every note be a half step lower?
@WillMarsh
@WillMarsh 3 года назад
yes that's correct. My bad if I said otherwise.

…& that’s what I meant, he picked something up somewhere, he even doesn’t understand himself : it is complete nonsense here, fact is : c# means half a note higher

Dear Mr. Marsh - if you tune to D, do you still use the same gauge taraf strings, .009? Or do you go .010? Same for the main string - .011, or .012?Thank you, I am very curious!

Hello Steve, sorry I'm just seeing this now. I use .009 for taraf strings and .012 for the main string.

The third string is it tuned to F# or F?
@WillMarsh
@WillMarsh 2 года назад
F# in this case. However depending on the raga, either could be used.

my strings are snapping before I get to the correct register

it's common for strings to break while tuning, especially the sympathetic ones.

It is an honorable attempt, but I’d say pretty useless for someone who isn’t an experienced sitar player !

Not quite sure how much more simple you would want it ?
