Summary: Last 2 ayahs of Sorah Baqarah were revealed on the night of Mairaj. Language of Quran: Arabic - * Dialect of the Bedoin of Hijaz. * This dialect was pure and free from outside influence. * This is also the reason for the Arabs to send their kids to the desert to learn pure Arabic. * Pinnacle of Arabic text and expression. 11:48 Names of Quran: * Arabs had a culture of giving various names to the things they were fond of i-e. Sword, Lion etc. * Quran has observed this tradition and has presented itself with various names for itself. * Allama Jalaluddin Siyuti has compiled 55 names for Quran. * These names, as was the Arabic culture, are based on the nature, or attributes of the thing itself, Quran. Al Furqan, for example, means something that distinguishes Truth from lie. * Al-Quran is the proper name for Quran. * Quran - from "qarn", meaning to combine something. * Qara'a - read, Quran - thing which is read. Simlarly, Allah's names are also based on His various attributes. 17:31 Asloob e Kalam: Asloob e Kalam of Quran is Oratory, not poetry. Qualities of Oration: * Sync with speaker and listener * There's a historical background and the speaker only references the event * Tehweel e khitab - Addressee have to be determined within each verse * Address doesn't only relie on logic and fact, it also involves emotions * Starting and ending has to be comprehensive * Address may divert here and there but returns back to the focal point. * These all qualities of orations are more or less present in Quranic text. 28:18 - Tarkeeb aur Takseem/Synthesis and Division: Ayat - * Basic unit of Quran, Meaning - Sign. * Does not follow any grammar rule. * Can be of a single alphabet, or a combination of alphabets. * It can be a word, or a sentence and it can also be a collection of multiple sentences. * Length of Ayat is on the basis of "Toqeefi", which means as instructed or limited by the Prophet SAW. Surat - ' * Meaning - Boundary. * Collection of ayats is bounded by a surat. * Length is determined by Toqeefi * Longest is Al-Baqarah, shortest is Kausar. Manzil - * Another term used in the time of Sahaba * Quran was divided in 7 parts * One part a day, if Quran was to be recited in a week Para - * Divided into 30 paras after the time of Sahaba * Not a very cautious or logical division * Divides Surats in between paras Ruku'u * Division of Surat into Ruku'u * logical division * One particular topic per ruku'u * Surats divided to be recited in rakat. * Attributed to Hajjaj Bin Yousuf 40:06 - Tarteeb o Tadveen * Order of the revelation is different than the order in the book itself. This order was established in book form by Usman RA when he ordered the compilation of Quran. * Tadveen: 1. The Holy Prophet SAW taught Quran in the same order and recited it with Jibreel e Ameen in the month of Ramzan every year. But it was not compiled in book form, but stored in the hearts of Sahaba. 2. First compilation of Quran in book form was done in the caliphate of Abu Bark RA, after scores of hujjaj were martyred in the battle of Yamama. At this time people were allowed to recite Quran in their own dialects. 3. Different dialects caused some changing in the pronunciation of the text and this discrepancy was removed by Usman RA who restored Quran to its original text and established a single script. (Rasm al khat) and dispatched them to different locations. All other versions were disposed. * Order of the Surats also add to the beauty of the Quran. * Every Surat has a central idea, and other ayats revolve around it. * Some Surats are in pairs, addressing similar topics. E.g. Al-Baqarah and Aale Imran. End of Lecture.

i never heard anybody who can speak and explain complicated matters of Deen aur Dunia like Dr Israr Ahmad. Allah has given him a good understanding of Quran and other Divine konwledges.
