The information is WAY more important than your "eloquence". Your videos are fine. I'm glad I "stumbled" upon your channel. It's "real", and helpful. You might get "better" at production, but don't loose sight of what you're providing for banality. Thanks for all the great information! Jayman...
I think you are doing a good job on the videos, and I agree you are improving with each one. Your knowledge is what they’re about and that’s awesome! 👍👏👏👏👏👏
@@GoneBoondocking if you were to park that RV were you. Were at in the summer..could really run the AC every day like a normal grid tie system??? Assuming you were getting good sun every day???
I currently have a 30 foot 1993 holiday rambler camper. It is in really good shape and we love it. We have 1800 watts of solar with 2 inverters a 3000 all in one powmr and a sungold power 4000 watt low frequency inverter. We are installing a minisplit this weekend and your videos have helped us alot. Thankyou for what you are doing
Your approach is the no-nonsense, straight forward manner which is easy to listen to and learn from that I do so appreciate. Thank you for taking your time to provide this information. I will continue to look for and watch your future content.
You do not fall short of professional in this video. This is BY FAR one of the better setups I've seen. You're a legend and inspiration. True American.
Why nobody else is rallying for decentralization of power, food, or waste processing is astonishing to me. We have the technology to decentralize to the granular level of each building, and maybe even more granular than that. I think each neighborhood would be a reasonable resolution (certainly more reasonable than the waste of resources pushing mind boggling volumes of power over wires strung all over the place). And to be fair, it isn’t just “the man,” we need worry about these days. It could be a piss poor management issue compounded by a natural disaster, or it could be something more sinister.... I’d say having it all come from one or two sources is absurd.
Helps keep the temperature down in the less insulated area of the house and reduces the time that our ac unit is running at home in turn saving money. Great item
Professionalism come with exactly what your doing sir... Very much appreciate for the way your doing them..your genuine. That's what matters the most to me.
saw two of your videos tonight & please don't apologize for videos that are not slick enough in your opinion. I look for informative videos - if I want entertainment Ill watch Netflix. Your explanations are clearly spoken & at a level of technicality suitable for a broad audience (although I suspect you could get very technical if you wanted to . All substance no fluff.
We (my husband and I) cannot express our gratitude enough for the videos you are doing. They have already helped us tremendously. We are excited to start incorporating these ideas into our current motorhome. We currently have 800 watts of solar, with 4 lead acid batteries, and have no plans to go completely electric - but definitely want to use the power we have available to the max. You are intelligent and innovative, and can obviously "see" and "accomplish" what the rest of only dream about. Your ideas are simplistic and easy to follow and duplicate. We feel blessed that you have chosen to share your ideas with all of us. We think you are doing a great job - you get your point across and don't spend 2 hours doing it. Thanks so much!
@@mrmotofy I used vhb tape on a metal roof and it has lasted 3 seasons so far. My other camper has a rubber coated roof and used expansion nuts so there's a rubber seal holding it together I did add dicor on top for piece of mind.
Just started working on converting my cube van into an RV. After watching many hours of how to videos had a severe case of information overload. Finally found someone that actually knows what they are talking about that presents the information in a no non sense, clear, easy to understand way. Great idea of using the eternabond tape to attach the solar panels. Though I cut openings for windows in the box sides have been reluctant to put holes in the roof. Also like the idea of buying U.S. made solar panels. So much useful information. Thank you David. Wish you safe travels.
Thank you for this. I live in South Carolina near the coast. Hurricanes love knocking power out for a few days. Your information is just what I needed to set up a mini split and be able to keep the fridge running. Again thank you.
Gene, I don't know why you don't have a million RU-vid subscribers. Seriously, I'm sending all these videos to my Dad. My Mom and Dad are retiring and want to enjoy the RV lifestyle. I'm getting him all ramped up on solar, mini-split and composting toilets.
I used 1/8th aluminium Angle too, with Riv nuts in panelsand bolts with loctite. I used a self tapper big ones into metal roof trusses. one on each end and sealed around entire aluminium angle piece. Also used 3m 5200 before screws. I'm pretty sure you could lift the entire rv with my mounting system, lol.
Nice installation. Alternatively, nutplates can be riveted onto the solar panel frame and then screws could be used to fasten the solar panel to the aluminum mount.
If you aren't aware of their channel, you will find another innovative fellow at "Snow & Curt". He runs his AC and the rest of his rig off six 180W Grape solar panels but, he tilts the panels using linear actuators for maximum efficiency. Its amazing how much you can increase the output of the panels by tilting them. Good video. I'm working my way through your catalog.
1) your videos are perfect ! 2)I’d rather watch your honest sincere videos then someone who is flashy and showy and caught up in how good THIER hair and makeup look!!! You are awesome. I wish you were in my family so you could help me build out a pro master van!!! Lol! Thanks for taking the time to help us!
New sub. Saw your channel info through Enigmatic Nomadics, recommended by Ke Le. I think you're a genius and you're nice, too. That's why I'm watching.
Don't apologize for noy having frills or in anyway think your videos are "less than". Your content certainly is well worth watching. I have to say the mini-split, in my opinion, is the most valuable RV related video on you tube. So I would ask you to focus on what you excel at and don't worry about the hollywood crowd lol
When torqueing down the bolts on your LiFePo batteries you should use Nordlock washers to insure the battery power connections do not work loose due to vibration during the course of your travels. Loose connections can be deadly for Lithium batteries. Nordlock washers are far superior than other lock washers for this purpose and are used on many EV car conversions for this reason. Nice Video!
At 11mins you talk about getting better at this, like you're falling short, well, no way! you're videos are 100percent spot on, like you're an expert; you know in depth your subject and just as capable of putting all the components together, really really well. Immensely good video, thankyou! Best wishes from Alan, in UK.
I have just started looking at these RV solutions for solar powered accessories, yours is the best that I’ve seen, thank you for sharing your wisdom and knowledge.
Just found your videos today. My family is looking to convert a skoolie so we r heavy in the research phase. We have been talking about going full electric, but didnt know if it was possible. Thank u so much for sharing your knowledge and experience so generously. I love your presentation. No need to get fancy. U r wonderful!
You are doing a phenomenal job at educating us on setting up a system to go off grid and be self reliant. I appreciate all you’re doing. Like others, I would be hesitant on relying on tape only to secure my solar panels. I think I will screw my angle pieces down, seal over the screws and then lay my panels between the angles. I work in the repair side of the construction field and see how tape holds up after exposure to the elements for a few years, it does hold good but, I’m still hesitant.
Thanks. for putting up such instructional videos. I think the quality is good, and will get better. One suggestion I might make, if you can show your projects in-situ, as you have them installed, it would be great. For example, show where you have the hour shower and batteries/inverter installed in the motorhome. For those of us with similar rigs it is helpful to see options for where and how to install things. Keep up the good work!
Excellent information. The information you provide is well in excess of any professional videos with less pertinent information. Many thanks for your efforts.
You are doing a great job.. Thank you for all the useful information. Not only can I use some of the projects when boondocking, I can use them in my cabin which is very rustic - no plumbing and is unfinished.
What a kind man. Thanks for your generosity in sharing. My only comment would be I would have loved to have actually watched you put all of the solar stuff together. Kind of like a show and tell for those of us who are not naturally mechanically inclined. That said some great information. I actually like your videos. They are unpretentious and genuine which is refreshing in an age of annoying showboating.
gone boondocking you add a tremendous value to us wantabe boondockers please have more videos of why you are doing this and where you are at when you are out there. I'm going to buy a van but your knowledge stepped down for my build is very helpful. I love nature and your videos of the outdoors is inspiring.
Is this the same solar system as earth? Just joking! I don't rv, but I really enjoy your videos and learn a lot. You're very thoughtful and I hope you know that you are a blessing to the people who have found your channel. Most of your ideas can really be applied to any living space and are the kind of ideas that we all need to get serious about. Thank you
Great video, this is so helpful! I came here after seeing the mini split set up. This is going to change my life. I have to start saving up for this. Your videos are good, the I information is what I need. I’d rather have the info in a succinct presentation than a sifting through a long video that some do as part of their production. Thank you for taking the time to make these
You are right my man everything was in layman's term and it's natural from your heart which is very understanding for real normal people keep up the good work please don't lose your confidence in doing these wonderful videos the knowledge you have is awesome so remember Fear Can replace anyting even your knowledge because then you'll be contemplating of doing a video you're just fine you speak well explain very very well keep up the good works and thank you for your wonderful service.
Great video! We are going to try boondocking for the first time this weekend! We are so excited we will have a video on our channel about how it goes next week hopefully!
Great job, I feel your content is far more important and informative than the quality of the video, which by the way is very good. Looking forward to more of your videos.
Your content, professionalism, communication skills and knowledge far outshines any other RU-vidr in your category. I appreciate your taking time to share and upload your videos. Enjoy it all. Wayne
Unbelievably awesome work! I’ve been researching this info for 2 years. If you could figure out the cubic sf of your RV interior, it would make it easier to scale your system design up or down based of cu/ft of cooled area. Thank you!
hey keep up the good work!!!!!!! if the video production gets better, ok! if it doesn't I do not care you are informative and are doing gods work. it is appreciated very much. i look forward to the next video.
You are doing a wonderful job on your videos. I’m planning a total renovation on my 1980 Avion 34V Travel Trailer. I want to instal a solar system and a marine windmill to add to the power when in cloudy and stormy days. Please keep doing these videos! Thank you very much!
You are one of very few people who have installed a mini split into a vehicle powered by solar on RU-vid. I am very interested to do this my self, however, I am still skeptical. How has your mini split been holding up? I feel if it is better (like most people who have them say it is), why aren't more people doing this instead of using inefficient and expensive 12V systems? Thank you for your video! I would LOVE to see how the whole electrical system, including how it works with the AC, power draw, how they are integrated, etc.
Great video👍 I converted a chevy express into a camper by extending the roof as well. Built my own lifepo4 system(104 amps) Hope to see you somewhere and see your masterpiece in person👍👍
Super information... thank you Sir.... your videos are miles better than many others... forget your professional videos nonsense, we love your videos... because of the quality information. Well done. Cheers and thanks from IRELAND 🇮🇪
A word to those looking to copy this setup. With zero airflow under the panels, they will reach very high temperatures. As the temperature of the solar panel increases, its output current decreases exponentially, while the voltage output is reduced linearly. As a result, heat will severely reduce the solar panel's production of power. It is very wise to install you panels with some space for airflow under and around the panel.
Thanks now its all clear after watching the air condition video, I thought now all I need is 1000w minimum of solar panels. This video explained very calm and clear all my queries.
David--wow! just binge watched all your videos--Awesome! We enjoyed our rv time and saw so many beautiful places all over. We also saw many retirees on a fixed income and so many points you made could really help those folks to make the most of their budgets and still get out there! So, thanks for doing all this!
Thank you so much for your kind remarks. I consider it my privilege to be allowed to help. There is nothing better than our lives well lived and no better place to do it than 'out here'. I'll see you then. ~David
Well done and well presented. Though I would have had to mount the aluminum rails to the roof before fastening them to the panels because my roof is not flat enough to ensure full contact of the eternabond on the pre-mounted rails. I prefer 1.5" of ventilation room under all panels to reduce heat build-up under the panels that could degrade the rubber membrane roof and to a small extent reduce thermal flow through the roof into the RV. The ample ventilation also increases panel output by keeping the panels cooler (especially when moving). I'm glad the double-stick eternabond held through real-life testing. Had it not held, a person could have died in the car behind you. Though, that test is not complete for another 15 to 20 years. I'd check them often for a while, especially after a stiff cross wind.
Hi David, thank you for sharing your knowledge and time. You mentioned you're using a 400 amp fuse between the battery and inverter, and it looks to be connected to the negative side of battery. I was always told that fuses should be right off the positive battery terminal. Please check this for yourself if you're wondering.
Thank you for all your time and effort, your videos are going to help me as I buy my first RV and as I travel in the field of construction I can upgrade as I go, again thank you " Be seeing you "
Production quality on: audio levels, camera, lighting and content are all good. If I was enrolled in a class for a fee, I would not have any complaints. About your contribution: there is a large segment of the public who are making the transition from a house/apt to a motor home/trailer/tiny house, many with children because of dyer need. These videos help those to safely and wisely make important decisions by studying the body of work you present. Thumbs up and subscribed!
You are doing fine! Keep up your good work. Very informative. On the professional side, this will come 2nd hand as your experience continues to grow. Thanks, enjoying your videos. Frank
your videos are great the others waste time. Picture captions on subjects are nice and links to products talked about make new ideas complete and help the hard of hearing.
If i want to be entertained I have cable TV but I watch RU-vid to learn and I have learned much from you, thank you. One thing: can i use eternabond on my rubber roof fifth wheel ?
There are websites with solar calculators that can provide the exact amount of power output for flat, single axis, and two axis tracking. Thanks for watching the video. Happy camping.
I love your solar system, you beat mine by 200 watts of solar and 2 LIFEPO4 battery’s. I do wanna give you a little bit of static about your mini-split A/C, please correct me if I’m wrong here but I looked at the specs and it’s capable of pulling 1000 watts of power on high. You said that it could only pull half that when you checked, not sure if you are aware that the inverter units only pull the necessary amperage depending on temperature outside and inside of your rig. Also mini splits are not the most energy efficient acs, LG makes a Duel Inverter window/ wall A/C that’s actually more efficient when comparing CEER ratings not the misleading SEER ratings. Anywho, just wanted to throw that out there. Big fan of your work, keep it up!!!
