The stupid think is you can spread salt/sand/cinders with any dump truck and a spreader attachment. It’s not expensive, and saves money and injuries. Hell, up north on steep hills they have plastic 55 gallon drums of salt and sand and people nearby go out with shovels and just throw it on the road. Go to Lowe’s and buy 15 bags of play sand and put them in your pickup bed. Then you have weight and abrasives. We called it Belgian 4 Wheel Drive in Wisconsin.

Ice, the most dangerous of all winter driving conditions, especially at freezing or just below freezing. Rear wheel drive is useless. Even 4wd vehicles aren’t much better. With rear-wheel drive, you are pretty much stranded until it melts.

What's so crazy is, all they had to do was drop their tire pressure to 20 pounds. I've always had a rear wheel drive truck and have always been able to make it to work or anywhere else, just by adjusting the pressure of my tires. I've never used chains, just don't forget to air your tires after the ice storm.

@@e4300Can't beat studs for ice, Nokian Hakkapellitas studded. I also use non studded tires, Continental VikingContact and also Bridgestone Blizzaks. The Blizzaks will give you some traction on ice but you need to go slow with them to be secure. As long as the Blizzaks have at least the top 50÷ tread left, you're good, since that is where the super soft Multicell layer is that helps to grab the ice.

@jewlzn7130 it's a mess. People better have skills, awd, and good tires. Luckily, after a week they started salting and plowing, except for residential streets, which are still 5" of snow over ice and deep ruts and slush holes. I bought a brand new car last May and I'm furious I'm beating it to death. I have to drive a different way home to minimize getting stuck or ruining my front end.

Everyone I know here in the south rolls all-season tires year 'round. Generally they are good - even in inclement weather. Remember guys. Only EV's or vehicles with 6+ tires still get somewhat decent traction in these conditions. If you dont have one, stay home.

Should I spend the extra money on a decent set of tires? Nah let's buy the cheap ones and go out to eat toda...oh wait😂

Why isn't the city spreading salt or at least sand that is ridiculous. You can spread sand with a front end loader or backhoe

We actually have all equipment in MS to salt the roads, the state just sucks at planning for conditions apparently. Even though we knew ahead of time. 🤦🏽‍♂️

As a Michigan driver I'm laughing my ass off at all these heavy suvs and trucks that get stuck on nearly flat ground and can't go anywhere......All while My cute little honda civic speeds up hills that have iced over. light, fwd, and it stops way easier on ice than you'd expect. just slow down or stay home.

@@joeblow123 Even if just once in a decade, there's snow and ice, I consider a good move, to buy tire chains, and have them stored in a closet, or somewhere in your apartment, or house, in case there's an emergency, and it just happens that there's snow and ice.

Accellerate slow. You can usually crawl up to speed on ice, though you should be crawling home. Southerners aren't ice people.

And I bet that all the people that are Stuck are Questioning their choice of vehicles when they are seeing the others just driving right by them... and the Faster that you spin the tires, the slower that you will be going and are only getting Minimum Distance and if the Rollback truck wasn't blocking the Grassy Edges of the Road that is where I would be heading to and Icy roads are No Joke and I would find a Good Parking Spot and weight it out and Sleep in the Car if I had to....
