this...entire show...is insane. im back for seconds just a week later. i keep thinking about how fucking creative her guitar playing is...and how soulful it is. It may _seem_ "artificial" but that's merely an aesthetic interest of Annie's...her actual playing and musical mind is soulful as hell. She seems kinda sorta mythical to me...she's _almost_ perfect. But she's also a human being with a fuckload of pathos and brilliance and idiosyncrasy. Annie just strikes me as the _obvious_ heir to whatever the hell Bowie and Prince and Hendrix and many others...hell, Sonic Youth for one...were themselves channeling into being. Annie knows what she's doing...and is also utterly letting creativity itself just do with her whatever the hell _it_ wants to do. And she's beautiful as a person and songwriter for allowing that to happen to her. It's courageous and incredibly captivating. She's unique. I could seriously gush a whole lot more. But one paragraph is enough. :P
Great set & all 13 well done here in Golden Gate Park. The sound is big & powerful yet precise in such a huge area. The photography lets you feel you are there with a mix of being in the crowd & close-ups of playing, expressions. Annie's loose in her catsuit, digressing with riffs in "Surgeon" and lyrics, just a bit, but delivering the goods, fresh, even edgy, in "Every Tear" & "Actor" with new intonations..."Come on..." Annie challenges, then owns us, in charge, knocking it out of the park. Headphone-worthy!
Wonderfully awesome. Every moment fills the mind and soul with superb pleasure. That toe taps rhythmically with no purposeful input from me. My essence is taken over, controlled by outside forces conveyed through the music. Oh my.
How I lived without knowing who she was I'll never know. She is the muse of my life now. She is everything!!! St. Vincent I must build a shrine to you and pray that I end up 1% as awesome as you
Love her unique sound which is creative, inspiring, and from another universe! She's my new favorite artist. I was looking for something fresh and new.
She's almost like some kind of weird fantasy come to life -- to be so attractive (cool, slightly distant yet enticing, delicately pretty - like a "Blade Runner"-style beautiful android) and so talented (in multiple ways: insanely gifted guitar player (and let's face it: for whatever reason, there still are few female guitar players at that level), brilliant songwriter/composer, lovely singer. ...And such sheer poise, confidence, and laser-sharp skill as a stage performer! (I've used the word "imperious" elsewhere to describe her performing style, especially over the last year or two. By that I'm not suggesting that she's mean or condescending, just that she seems to have complete command over what she's doing, and over the audience, while on stage.) It's almost frightening; on paper, such a combination as she has would seem nearly impossible... I do believe that Annie Clark could turn out to be the savior of "rock music" (however you define that), or at least "art rock" (however you define that). Her songs are complex, at times dissonant (even abrasive), yet somehow accessible, almost addictively so. She puts other, ridiculously overrated contenders (see Bob Lefsetz and other critics on this) - Flaming Lips, Arcade Fire, etc., etc. - completely in the shade. I CAN NOT wait to see where she goes from here...
Brilliant comment! Thank you for putting it into words because everything you said about Annie is spot on. I'm obsessed with her, she's truly amazing! .. side note question. . Are you a Ween fan?

dude its a chick playing some simple noodling riff...sounds cool i agree...relax though man its chorus is an at the drive in rip off and again the ending is the best part...long ass paragraph talkin bout sheer poise and laser sharp blah blah...cmon man
Did you ever disprove this? Alternatively she is an alien queen and wants us to bring her all our loves like I want everyone to bring me all the pizza. Or maybe she's from the future. Either way, could they please send more of them because they are bloody amazing.
What an artist Annie is. I have great memories of San Francisco a decade or so ago and this concert adds to my fond recollections. Also, bizarrely, in that very same park in the middle of the day me and a group of onlookers were startled by a mole making its appearance from one of the lawns. I hope he was there for the St. Vincent concert. I wish I´d been there too.
She's using a white Albert Lee Musicman in there...great stuff...we saw her in Australia with David Byrne a while back. She's an enormous talent! Thanks for posting.
+Alec Cullen Such amazing and always-original guitar-work! I, for one, am so glad she evolved away from those Harmony solid-bodies she used to favor; they look very cool and vibey, but never intonate correctly or stay in tune well. It also helps that EB/MusicMan knows where the true future of post-rock electric guitar is, and designed a signature model for her (based on the Albert Lee, but with different pickups, neck specs, etc).
Brilliant post Annie doing it like only she can Definitely will be singing along to all of these later Superb noise from her guitar and her voice in wonderful form Great great great
The other guitarist should've been wearing a wireless unit. I was kinda worried she might trip while they were doing their forward-backward routine at 3:00
I'm not sure whether or not that's a real baby. However, right after the camera changes, you see a muppet on a rod who looks like Ernie's kinda angry red cousin.
This band gives me hope for music. Haven't heard anything so original and well done since Talking Heads were together. And they can actually play well and perform live. Hip hop can suck a tube amp!
Annie is a time traveler fell through a portal from the dark crossroads with Robert Johnson where they sold their soul to Beelzebub for guitar prowess. She's an original and like many others I am smitten1
I was just thinking that. I'd say if someone played this track to the likes of Zappa today had he still been alive, his response would be "this is specialized entertainment. Just as I like it. Just needs more leather and maybe some chains".
suhijo At léast Madonna was (AND PROBABLY STILL IS) prettier than this ridiculous untalented pretentious progmetal bitch. And even the lords of the new church (one of the best 50/60 BANDS ever) couldnt give us a good song from Madonna. Now tell me... whats this UGLY noise... NO voice, no Songs, no tits, nothingatall. Oh and no Zappa. Not even Zappa. Because there s no cpt bfhrt in hr "msic
+lasher500 Me too, especially reminiscent of "No Language In Our Lungs" and "Roads Girdle The Globe". Maybe a bit of "That Wave" too. Also reminds me of the Minutemen, a bit. Mainly because of the guitar tone.
Gee, she seems different and cutting edge. So she must be a genius, or not. "If it sounds offensive, grating and course it must be good!" No, she's boring. OK, pile on.
This concert's audio's boring to me, spoken as a fan. If you think the same thing based on the official album audio for this song, then fine, no problem.
@@101Volts good morning from the Midwest USA. Austin I confess I am or was fascinated with this woman performer. Probably first and foremost I am attracted to her. She my disgusting trait of the look I am attracted to. Building a person in my mind. I think many people do this, I say disgusting because I have learned physical features are not the character of a person. I'm ashamed of it. I don't mean she's disgusting, I don't know her personality. I have learned that the entire entertainment industry is an exclusive club that has rules for membership and achieving fame and fortune that have Nothing to do with talent. This is not a conspiracy theory, they reveal their membership in secret societies with symbolism and gestures. This is worship of satan. I am a musician, artist and craftsman. I work with my hands. I have many people I have followed over the years of my life, favorite guitarists, drummers, artists etc. Everyone of them is or was part of this society. Things are not what they appear. I am a deeply flawed man and I need a Saviour. He is Yeshua Jesus Christ, Saviour Redeemer Creator Father. John 14:6 Thank you for your interaction sharing with me, especially with civility and kindness. I greatly appreciate it. I'm praying for you and your family or families and friends. Christopher I need a Saviour. John 14:6
@@christophersleight19 Thank you too, and I like reading the Bible, and trying to look Bible verses up from Hebrew and Aramaic perspectives. (Hebrew being the original language for most of the "Old Testament" section, and Aramaic supposedly being the language that Jesus spoke for the Gospels.) I'm not convinced that English is always the best place to learn about the Bible, because there can be subtleties not always explained in English; some that are strangely (but not wrongly) pertinent to understanding. I like reading Chaim Bentorah's website, where he posts about Bible Verses and Hebrew and Aramaic words (both of those are languages that, if I understand right, were used in "Old Testament" and "Gospel" times.) I do think I should learn Hebrew and Aramaic more deeply, though. We need to try understanding the Bible from the context it was given in, with words as close as we can understand, to know true meanings that may not be obvious. And, Shalom (Hebrew word) to you (that word meaning "peace" and more good things, if I understand right. If I misunderstood, sorry.) ... As for numerous and too-popular music performers... I have found myself going away from different songs that, if one pays but little attention, may realize they're songs that are celebrating or promoting sin - often adultery-related, and often not hiding it. And considering part of the "New Testament" section says to "Pray without ceasing" in thought, action, and deed, partaking in satan worship should be out of the question. ("satan" is also a word that means "adversary" or "accuser," or so I heard. It at least makes contextual sense in the "Get behind me, you satan" verse.) The devil may put on a big front, and "be powerful," and even appear as an angel of light - yet he is not that light of God, he can only at most be an incomplete imitation. And as he is the father of lies, it shouldn't be too surprising that he would use much illusion to look worse and more powerful than he is; preying on fears, to attempt to make a person accept a forgery of life, one that's empty and missing God. We both need Jesus, his name in the original language supposedly also meaning "Rescuer," which is a good description. May we both continue there in Jesus, rather than... Troubling ways and worries of the world that knock on the door, asking for admission into our home (that is, mind and soul.) Thank you for being nice to me, too.
