I do realize and I do care but like you said YT is a resource for us to watch and learn from people like you. I do love the ease of learning from artists like yourself. YT will suffer from their politics in the end.
Hi Ann, since this vid, I probably spend more time on YT but still prefer Bitchute on I'm still un-happy about YT's policies. thanks for taking the time to comment and I hope you are getting value from my channel 🙂🙂
I love your paintings,I do paint ..and don't care about the news or what is going on ..just being happy about my work and seeing other artist beautiful work!
I haven't painted in over a year, but my wife and I just retired in Lexington KY, so now is the time to get back into it and just enjoy the ride. Love your videos. You inspire!
Hey Michael, I've discovered your blog and channel pretty recently but they feel like invaluable sources of information. Turns out Tonalism is the only thing that I care about these months. Thank you.
I hate "them " too...but google and youtube are the only form of info / entertainment I have and they're perfect at letting my cut out all news broadcast. I get to keep away, very easily, the ugly side of youtube and the internet in general. Takes practice but here I am on the good side watching you. Thank you for giving in a bit for us. cheers
Been painting for quite awhile, had it not been for your videos I never would have found tonalism demonstrations ,so thankyou so much, Merry Xmas and all the best in the new years...
We deeply appreciate the tutorials Mike...us aspiring artists look to videos just like this for the betterment of our artistic endeavors and it’s deeply appreciated. Censorship is total BS but thank you for making it about art and teaching us.
Made my day to see this Mike, appreciate you posting on You Tube. Certainly agree with your thoughts about censorship but you are correct that most of us use this as a learning tool and have missed your posts and teaching moments. 👍
I love this! I've only been painting for around 7 months and just discovered tonalism today. I have to try something like what you've done here - wonderful!
Mike, Welcome back! Live in the states, censorship is the latest rage. I'm a 70 year old painter who teaches "Tonalism" at a local SUNY college. Have a show now going on there "In the Shadow of Tonalism", very well received . Really miss seeing your work. Best always. (How's your dog?) Bob Lahm
Hi Bob, thank you so much, great to hear Tonalism is being thaught out there. thats super exciting. Denny is doing great! He's the studio meet and greet as always :-)
Dear Mr McCarthy, I discovered this video of yours (by happenstance) today Dec 28, 2022. I'm quite impressed with your style. As a painter myself, I've heard quite a bit about "tonalism" but never bothered to investigate further. Your video is quite revealing!! Very nice work indeed! I'm going view your website, and see what I might glean from there. Thank you for this marvelous Little instruction video. Thank you sir.
Fully woke fellow artist here. I believe beautiful art like yours and particularly the use of color can speak to people just as much as words so never underestimate the power of art to inspire!
I enjoyed watching your demo. For those who need more direction, do you ever explain more of what you are doing an any of your other videos? Thanks for posting!
Hi Geo, I wouldn't say it's the best. Imo anything from yellow ocher to super dark umbers and Siena's can work. One thing thats deffo tough is to pull off Tonalism on straight white. Cheers 😎
Tonight, I watched a couple of art creator videos and both are bringing up politics... it goes to show that one can not get away from it. I've got a problem with not having time and space to paint, I tend to hoard paint and large canvasses... watching this has me thinking that I could minimize my paint down to really a FEW earth tones, a blue, a couple browns, a white... and practice on a small scale maybe... A less is more approach.
Hi Emma, yes I usually try to avoid anything political. this vid was from 2018 so stuff just crazier now! Re simplifiing. You are onto something. I've been on a sepia kick lately and 4 or 5 colors can do a lot! ru-vid.com/show-UCS6NSbrJaICWu2Oztt_PXeA
A second thought if you are still monitoring - the video got good when you said you can turn the sound down - you have a lot more to say than the painting...which I find a bit interesting over just a painting. you said something about "if your not awake, you probably won't be" probably not the direct quote. I just turned 61, the most hated in America - happily married middleish aged white man. I stopped watching all news, radio, and save for the occasional world cup, live TV , and never had social media (short of posting a few notes on youtube in Aug of 2020 - I literally live in a different world now (So Cal). You so well voiced the horrors of feeding the beast by ,if you get the analogy from the 70's - Everyone on a phone is taking the candy from the pocket of the dirty old white guy standing in front of a windowless van. ....like lemmings. I thought I was the enemy of the "woke" being somewhat conservative....am I the "woke" because I see through the BS that has been fed to me my whole life. News or as you so well put it I think "those authoritative voices"....I've heard the word and just assumed it was part of the New English language that I'll learn right after Mexican....at least I want to communicate with them. Peace - hope you can help properly label me. What if I run into someone and they want to see my papers....lol
