昔、新宿の小田急で寄木細工を売ってる年配の方がいて、ぱっと見て綺麗と思ってお金はあんまりなかったけど3点購入した記憶がある。商品を持ってレジに向かったら、そのおじいさんがわざわざ歩いて来てくれてパンフレットを渡してくれた。そして、ありがとうと言われた。こちらこそこんな綺麗なものを作ってくれてありがとうと思った。この寄木細工は色んなことに応用して商品化できると思う。もっと色んな人に知ってほしいし海外にも積極的にアプローチしてほしい。

あれだけ寄せて集めた木を厚さ1mmに削るとかが全然想像出来なかった。これのからくり箱はずっと私の宝物です。宝物を宝物に入れて喜んでいます。

i used to live in Japan for a few years. i remember i had a few boxes decorated this way, slightly worn off, but not broken or damaged anywhere. only after leaving Japan, i discovered how it was made. too bad, i didn't keep any of those boxes to myself, i gave it all away to the students, who just started their 'living in Japan'. i hope they discovered the value of the boxes sooner than i did :)

This art demands high precision. It requires an algorithm that orders the sequence on the assembly and save the practitioner from impressions. It's intense, precise and exact. It's a philosophy of work too. Parametric architecture is EXACTLY THIS.

You can definitely tell the differences between the master's work and that of the student. The light colored strips not coming together at the points, the gaps under the interior box panels, and other features that someone with OCD and more highly skilled crafts-persons will see. But to be honest, the student is still doing much better work than I would likely turn out. Thus is some meticulous stuff. Definitely takes patience and concentration. Edit: I would love to see this again with English voice over or subtitles. It would be educational to hear what is being said by the narrator and the master, plus any questions posed by the student and the master's responces.

初めての作業とか、まだ慣れてない作業を取材されるって倍緊張するだろうなあｗ　見てて思ったのは、今時もうちょっと便利な機械できないもんかなと。発注する人がいなければ機械も作られないだろうし、難しいのかな。一面柄物ばかりではなく、一部にだけ使ってあるのとかも見てみたい気がする。
