The parallels of character that exists in a SEAL team 6 operator and devoted father who suddenly found himself taking care of several children by himself immediately returning from combat is both incredibly inspiring and uncanny. This episode I sit down with Eddie Penney, CEO of Contingent group and former SEAL team 6 operator. He gives us amazing insight into the incredibly competent and world famous unit that has been responsible for numerous high level operations since the war on terror began. Sit back and enjoy this thrilling and inspiring wild ride of warrior lifestyle and fatherhood

New to this channel and I can't stop listening. I'm a civilian and just wanted to say thank you. The quality of the content as well as the men you have on is truly excellent. Thank you again for what you all have done for the country, in and out of the service, and being willing to share it. The raw and unapologetic conversations are truly refreshing in a world now dominated with hypersensitive pandering. Keep up the great work and I wish you and your guests all the success your sacrifice deserves.

I’ve listened to this podcast probably 5-6 times already. It’s honestly one of the best former dev group guest podcasts out there because he does a great job going in depth on certain missions without compromising national security or intelligence. I also get why some guys would be opposed to sharing stories because of the secrecy thing but here’s proof you can be a great story teller without pissing the government or the teams off. I hate when guys are just like “I can’t talk about that” when it comes to missions that are already widely known or famous missions like the various hostage rescues.

My short notes what I learned from Eddie in this two hours : 1)Humble dude who believes in Christ. 1:50:00 till 2:00:00 is really interesting. 2) Interesting that the guy is kind of weird. On one hand, he says he enjoys shooting bad dudes, on another he felt bad. Shows that emotional toil. Not for the faint hearted and be careful to go that path. It aint glamorous. Bloody work. Violence. Also sadly, I feel SEALs are like tacticians, and the strategy is to the politicians. Strategy is more important and tacticians don't solve the big picture. 3) When losing close ones/team mates its kind of risky seeing them for the last time. If you feel you are a tough dude, go for it. But theres also the possibility that the image will be engrained and you'll never feel good again. If you are weaker mentally, you might even break and start drinking. 4) Eddie is a cool guy but the emotional toil is heart breaking. Those missions and casualties. Glad that he's fighting strong. I hope him well. Goodluck. 5) Again it shows, high speed work will make you force living a high speed life. very Draining. Young guns thinking its all high speed low drag but its not easy. Question that is unanswered, Wheres the "mission" ? Why become a SEAL ? What made him go for this ? Would he do it if he knew how tough it would be ? How hard is it to be a good father ? And what would happen if they secured a successful op and caught a bad guy red handed ? Would they give the chief a medal for a successful op for catching a big fish or would it be "alright, onto the next one" and just a pat on the back?

I went through an entire jumbo box of crayons just listening to this!! 😂. Seriously great interview. (I like American Crew Pomade. Also, I can eat it if I run out of crayons!) I grew up in Columbus (90 minutes N of Cincinnati) dad walked in one day when I was 7 and had a blonde student of his (both parents taught at Ohio State) that was 20 years younger, and announced he was leaving. He moved 8 houses down the street and had 4 more kids BUT was always close enough to come beat my ass whenever he got the urge. Cincinnati ALWAYS had (and still do) some killer HS football schools: St. Xavier, Elder, Archbishop Moeller, Colerain-I grew up in the late 60’s and 70’s but it seemed like they were always winning/nearly winning state championships. I don’t know why I am rambling about this on THIS particular thread. (Crayon poisoning is always possible, as is drinking too much water at LeJeune!?) It’s just what I love about Mr. Ritland’s style of interviewing-he gets into his guest’s past and I think it’s fascinating to hear peoples “origin stories.” He is a born interviewer-and warrior. Please forgive my completely off-topic ramble. Awesome interview. 👍

This is one of the best interviews I've ever listened to. Great insight into a very intense life discussing topics that are not easy to share and incredibly personal. Hopefully, this may deter those who want to be a SEAL just for the glory. Shit happens and unless you're ready and willing to take a ride that may end with you and or your buddies dead don't waste your time in activities you have no business in. This is a life of extreme highs and lowest lows! This podcast deserves to be listened to over and over to take everything in. INTENSE! Respect and thanks to those willingly serving and taking those risks.
