024 Hack a Toy: Destroy And Modify Elmo

I take an old Chicken Dance Elmo and modify it to play through a guitar amplifier. I did a quick electronic repair to make it work again. I wanted to circuit bend it, but couldn't figure out how to make it work. Instead I added an audio output jack and a pot, then show you what it sounds like run through a little distortion on my son's guitar amp.

Really enjoyed this video... I've torn into plenty of toys for repair or otherwise. It's a good time, and this video reminds me of some of the hackery I've had to resort to. I've used headphones to troubleshoot a toy with audio issues, and identify a bad speaker... and then used a hacksaw and pliers to get into another toy to extract a working speaker. You're doing it right :-)

Glad you liked the video. And I intentionally didn't say a thing about where that went, because there was nothing nice to say. Ha! Believe it or not, I put it there because it was the only solid piece of plastic that wouldn't interfere with the placement of the circuitboard.

Most of the fabric was just cut with an xacto. Back panel was cut open with a small saw that came in a kit of xacto type blades.
