Fun fact: If you go into Oleander's Mind with Clairvoyance, and use it on the little bunnies, they see you as a Butcher. The amount of detail they put in this game is astounding.
Yeh, and when you use clairvoyance on the ladies in Black Velevetopia, they see you as a creepy pervert, and when you use it on El Odio he sees you as a red cloth.
If you revisit his Basic Braining level later into the game, Coach leaves a message saying he's currently in a different part of his mind. However, he'll leave the training grounds open for Extra Credit or make up exams - as he puts it, "Your minds mean everything to us!" And if you go ALL the way to the end where the White Rabbit Room is, he has it the door chained shut.
"Is your name Joey? Cause I'm gonna call you Slowy Joey!" That legit scared the shit out of me when I first heard that. I played the game and I was like "Oh god the game is aware of my existence it knows my name aaaaaaaaaa"
@110486102428494997225 In the german version, he calls him "Lars Lahmarsch" which means something like "Lars slowpoke". Lahmarsch actually translates into Slow-Ass :P
Well, I guess we're all going to die. My whole life is flashing before my eyes. My first memory is of my dog, Lady. Lady and I used to go for long walks. They would go on and on and on. This one time we went on a walk we called "The Longest Walk of All Time." first we went to the end of our street. And then we walked three miles. And then we stopped and asked for directions. And then I fell down a manhole and had to reset my own arm back in the socket. And then we had a snack. And then Lady had to go to the bathroom. And then I bent down to tie my shoe. And then we got attacked by bees. And then Lady saw a gopher. And then we just stood still for a while. And then we walked two miles. And then we walked half a mile. And then we turned a soft right. And then we walked four miles. And then we turned left. And then we turned a deep left. And then we got lost for a while. And then we took a side road. And then Lady had to stop and scratch. And then we turned right. And then I gave Lady a bone!
I'm pretty sure Psychonauts did use a reactive soundtrack. I remember this happening in Waterloo World, where the music changed depending on whether or not you were big or small. I also remember it in Black Velvetopia - the electric guitar would come in whenever you ran into the dangerous street.
Yup. Other examples include the theramin in The Milkman Conspiracy, which only plays when you're standing outside, plus the obvious example of Gloria's Theätre, which changes melodies in different versions of the set but also becomes much more echoey when you're backstage
Other Games: We'll start you off with something simple before we get to anything large-scale Pshyconaughts: We'll start you off with an intense battlefield
at 2:30 you could hear “run run run! run rabbit run, run rabbit run” “bang bang bang bang! don’t give the farmer his fun” and it kills me. it may not be EXACTLY how the nursery rhyme/song goes but it's clearly what they were going for. Oleander was undoubtfully based on or at least VERY inspired by "Run, Rabbit, Run" and it's use in history. there is no doubt in my mind.
Slowey Joey... Oleander never ran out of ways to tell you to hurry up! But for me, way back when, it was the odd fear of getting blown up by a mine or missile that kept me going. Those background explosions were really good!
"Is your name Joey?" "No." "Because I'm going to call you Slowy Joey!" "But that's not my name!" "What's that, Joey? I can't hear you, you're talking too slow! Ahahahahaha!"
"Is your name 'Joey'?" "No" "Because I'm going to call you, 'Slowy Joey' "That's not my name.." "What's that Slowy? I can't hear you! You're talkin' to slow!"
@khlova Every single character, no matter how insignificant, has a unique reaction to every single power and item, regardless of whether you're even supposed to have it at the time. Yes, THAT is what makes an awesome video game... extraordinary.
Man this piece of music is damned awesome! But, the sounds of war in the background are really what make it perfect. I might have to do a version with that.
I remember the music becoming more obvious at parts where I kept falling down from climbing something, or aiming. different parts of the song make me laugh because of that....:D
This track specifically is permanently burned into my brain and I have no idea why. I haven’t played this game in a decade and this will randomly get stuck in my head.
This sounds a bit different from when I played it. Did Psychonauts utilize a dynamic, reactive soundtrack? That would explain my confusion, as well as why the official Psychonauts soundtrack is so lacking in vital, memorable tracks like this one.
If there's a way to extract models and textures and the like from the PC version of this game, there just has to be a way to extract those film reel projections that play inbetween the Coach's random drill sergeant-style taunts. And I can't believe no one majorly discusses those; they're pretty cool, if ya ask me...
Isn't there an intro to this level theme that resembles the "I don't know what I've been told" tune? You can hear it in this video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Lm2soKWS2Dk.html
