What I find amazing is that Andrew Lloyd Weber wrote the role SPECIFICALLY for Sarah Brightman, but even he says that Sierra is the best. She literally beat out the actress who had the part tailored for her.
Low key kind of sad that Erik doesn’t reprise this song at the end. I think it so perfectly foreshadows Eriks final decision and character development at the end of the musical. He’s realized that their relationship was never meant to be and is willing to let her go, knowing that his time with her meant something even if it didn’t last.
i love how you see sierra styles her voice throughout the whole show. here she makes herself a little nervous and unsure but by the end she's like BAM and no one can ever compare
@@chummanki9711 what I think Alba Duran is talking about is In the book, while in her dressing room Christine tells Erik "I sing only for you. tonight I gave you my soul and I am dead." She might be playing her part of Elissa in Hannibal(or the book's version margarita in faust ) but she is also definitely singing for the Phantom/Erik as well.
Aries Targett No really, Erik is a crazy, psychotic mad man who stalked Christine and watched her whatever she did on her room (...) and is also a murderer and a manipulator. I really would run.
Aries Target lets make a list of things Erik should be noted for. 1) Stalking 2) Manipulating 3) Kidnapping 4) Rape 5) Lying 6) Murder All to a minor, mind you.
"The most beautiful opera written in the last 50 years." "A mix of high art and common drama, marvelous to hear and see!" "What Beauty and the Beast should have been." The most beautiful modern Opera since the 1950s. A sad reminder both classic rock and true opera music is utterly gone from the culture scene. These days indie pop and underground hip hop may be the best. What we need is a go back to the classic styles and a forward look to new talent and creative energy...
The only reason Raoul is seen as "bad" is because everybody feels sorry for the Phantom, yet nobody ever takes into consideration of how Raoul knew Christine FAR before the Phantom ever did, so it's no wonder he's so desperate when another man enters the mix. Then, throughout the entire show, Christine asks Raoul REPEATEDLY to protect her from the Phantom, which he tries his best to do. Finally, in the Final Lair, he makes the ultimate sacrifice in giving his life so that Christine can live her own however she pleases without Erik continuously tormenting her mind. Phantom recognizes this, which is why he lets Raoul go, because he sees just how in love he is with her and how much he cares. That being said, I've played Raoul before, so I may seem a bit biased xD it's fine to choose Erik if you so wish, but Jesus, at least don't hate Raoul for loving the girl. Can you really blame him?
Raoul only gets hated because he is overshadowed by the roles of Christine and the Phantom. A plain and simple case of "Die For Our Ship"... No matter that he genuinely loves Christine, tries her best to protect her like she asks him to do. Sad that so many fans does remember that amazing songs and a genuinely sympathetic freudian excuse does not change the fact that the Phantom is the VILLAIN of the play, and that the whole point of the story is that he eventually realizes that claiming her does not mean owning her, and that he is not worthy of her because of this. YES the Phantom is tragic, YES he is meant to be pitied in the end, YES he is a genius architect, musician and singer, YES he is a cool villain, but he is also an emotionally stunted, obsessive, unhinged, creepy stalker, who exerts an almost hypnotic sway on her, emotionally abuses her, and watches her every move. He is a stalker, an abuser, an extortionist, a vandal, a blackmailer, and a friggin' murderer, who kills two innocents in cold blood (three in the book). So NO, sorry to some fans, but someone like him, no matter how talented and tragic belongs in a psych ward, not a wedding altar. Ok, expecting shitstorm in 5. 4. 3. 2. 1...
@Rayah Yehnert Actually, Raoul's redemption arc in LND was the only time I liked him. In POTO he was a pompous dandy (not to mention condescending, every time Christine voiced her concerns about the phantom), whom they try to portray as a knight in shining armor, but seeing him humbled and imperfect in "Why does she love me" really did it for me.
I've commented this elsewhere, but the only reason Raoul is seen as "bad" is because everybody feels sorry for the Phantom, yet nobody ever takes into consideration of how Raoul knew Christine FAR before the Phantom ever did, so it's no wonder he's so desperate when another man enters the mix. That being said, I've played Raoul before, so I may seem a bit biased xD it's fine to choose Erik if you so wish, but Jesus, at least don't hate Raoul for loving the girl. Can you really blame him?
I think both Raoul and Erik are wonderful for Christine, I can't fault either men with their love for her. I wouldn't call R pathetic, but I still love the idea of Christine and Erik. Raoul wants Christine, whilst Erik /needs/ her. He's a hurt creature who just longs for love and It breaks my heart.
Erik needs her indeed, that's precisely the trouble. He is hurt for sure, but he is an emotionally stunted, unhinged stalker, abuser, blackmailer and murderer. He needs her for what she brings to him, not for herself, and stakling one's every move is creepy not love. That's why he lets her go in the end. He sees her for who she is for the first time
I'm pretty sure these are the lyrics, I had to go through them and tweak it a bit, though, so there may be a few mistakes. CHRISTINE: Think of me, think of me fondly, when we've said goodbye. Remember me every so often promise me you'll try. And on that day, that not so distant day, When you are far away and free if you ever find a moment, spare a thought for me And though it's clear, though it always clear, that this was never meant to be If you happen to remember stop and think of me . . . Think of august when the world was green don't think about the way, things might have been. . Think of me, think of me waking, silent and resigned. Imagine me, trying too hard to put you from my mind. Think of me Please say you'll think of me, Whatever else you choose to do, there will never be a day, when I won't think of you . . . RAOUL: Can it be? Can it be Christine? Brava! Long ago, it seems so long ago How young and innocent we were... She may not remember me, but I remember her... CHRISTINE Flowers fade, The fruits of summer fade, They have seasons, so do we but please promise me, that sometimes you will think of me!
does anyone where to find the 25th instrumental version of this song and 25th wishing instrumental. i found them a long time ago but lost them. any ideas, thanks!!
I think it's because a more mature voice sounds better than a 16 year olds would be. I'm not saying a 16 year old can't have a mature voice, but in this case when picking the most mature voice or the best voice for the part (not just any part, a trained one who can go to those high notes and who can do an operatic range or sound) then it'll most likely be at least somewhat older.
A Duck Person Except if the character is a teenager, it would be understandable to me if she sounded like a teenager. I've heard younger people hit those notes before. I mean, when casting the main character in 'Oliver!', a grown man might have a stronger voice than an 11-year-old boy, but would you cast a grown man?
True. I see your point. One of the other reasons is that not many people know the true story and may find it disgusting (even if it was allowed in the late 1800s/1900s to have that big of an age gap) to have that romantic or some sort of relationship with the phantom or Raoul.
A Duck Person They don't have to watch it if they find it disgusting--but I understand. It's ironic, because wasn't in the book Erik in his 50s--60s? That means Ramin is decades YOUNGER than the part . . . . Right?
Sierra was around thirty at this point and while I agree they should've casted someone younger, Christine is supposed to be twenty-one (not sixteen) in the novel. Even in the musical she's eighteen... not sure why they made her sixteen in the movie though.
If sierra can slay it as ariel in the little mermaid slaughter it as Christine in phantom and love never dies then she can definitely kill it as belle in the revival of beauty and the beast
One day I was at Grubbs is school with his friends and I'd came in for a 29 days sleepover with his friends and so the first his teacher was like everyone Grubbs has a special guess he wants to interfused to you all and so he sat on a chair and said hello everyone so this is my best friend Damaris she's 17 years old and she was born on 13 of June 2002 but unfortunately things are really difficult for her bless her because she was born very early and very premerchor so I'm sorry guys that's all what I can say about her because alot of things about her are private information but she is a Latina and one of Grubbs is friends said are we allowed to touch her and Grubbs said you'll have to ask me first because she's quite sensitive and Grubbs is teacher said she's a beauty and Grubbs said oh and one more thing about her she is a singing camption and they all said can she sing for us and Grubbs said baby do you mind and nodded and so I sang think of me from phantom of the opera and everyone went oh my god you're amazing and Grubbs is teacher said thank you guys for listening to Grubbs and Grubbs took me round to see all his friends and they said Aww hello and I said emit and he said you know my name Sweetie and Grubbs said bless her
the whole point of the story is for the phantom to mature beyond the point where he wanted to possess christine and actually respect her as a person, after she shows actual respect and compassion for him, Raoul kind of is a plot device for me.
No she should not. He stalks her, watches her every move, dictates her life, emotionally abuses her, threatens her, and kills people. He might be genuinely tragic and talented, but a creepy stalker and murderer is NO boyfriend material. Period.
raoul respects christine, loves her, cares for her and unlike erik, he doesn't fucking kidnap her and force her to marry him over the man she really loves. and also,, in the book, he literally threatened to blow the entire opera up if she didn't marry him, killing all her friends, hundreds of innocents and the man she loves. erik is so creepy and the only reason christine sticks to him is because she's scared he's going to kill everyone. and also, he is a stalker - after she tells him no, he deliberately kidnaps her and murders tons of people just to get her. he also manipulates her and abuses her in every way.
barbaro267 well much such I LOVE Erik, no way Christine should be with him. Any sane person will go with Raoul. Tbh, my least favourite character is Christine, like make up your freaking mind girl...come on, you can have Raoul( for love and comfort) and Erik (for music inspiration and lead in the muscial) at the same time.
