Great video. Picking up new gaskets for mine tomorrow, and with this video it feels a lot less daunting of a job on an engine I hardly know. :) Thanks! :)
This will be my brother and I new project in restoring his 2005 audi a6 3.2 quattro just got done replacing an oxygen sensor and the car breaths better now so 👌
Excellent video, however there is a recommended pattern for bolt tightening for the covers you can find with a google search. Thank you for sharing this video was very helpful!
Oh man... so when you started reassembling, I didn't realize the camera angle had changed and thought "OH NO HE'S PUTTING THEM ON BACKWARDS!" lol. I'm an idiot sometimes.
I was told by a shop that he would charge me 385 dollars for Labor. I asked how many hours? He said 4. I may be wrong but it looked maybe about and hour?
If they go by book time which almost every shop does that is what it might cost, particularly if they are trying to cover their butt for when those brittle plastic breather hoses break, or are already cracked. Speed is developed through practice and skill. If on paper the job should take 4 hours and I did it in 2 because I am good, why should I make less money? I personally feel $385 would be a reasonable amount to pay for parts and labor (gaskets and plugs) more if the pipes break or the coils are shot from being oil soaked. I want to say this job took about 2.5-3hrs. Because of the cleaning of parts and fishing broken coil boot ends off of the plugs.
ordered new plugs and gaskets. I am going to attempt this next week, Thank you for the video. --- side question - what do you recommend to clean/get rid of the oil in the spark wells
I used a "mighty vac fluid extractor" because there was solo much oil in the tubes, you can also use paper towel to soak it up as much as you can. Then just remove the plug and wrap a rag around a screw driver swab the tube, lastly give it a blast of brake clean and it will flush down into the cylinder. It will smoke at start up, but it's fine. Hello, I have a 2005 model Audi A6, 3.2 FSI quattro. My car has a problem. When I accelerate, the engine vibrates and the malfunction light comes on. Let me send you the error codes that appear on the screen when we connect it to the computer.
The 2007 code is for the intake runners not operating, you need to check for a vacuum leak, or if the soleniod that controls them is bad, or if the flaps themselves are stuck or broken
Changed all injectors lol… Intake manifold runner position sensor/switch circuit p2014 and also still P0303. Also my ESP or traction control light is on and I just replaced abs shes speed sensors and beanie pedal sensor… looks like it’s steering angle sensor or I need to recalibrate it.
Hey I’m wondering if you can help me. I have this issue with my coil packs they are flooded with oil. But on the left side it’s all dry. I have the same car as you. My car won’t start.
There is a very specific order to torque the bolts in. Startimg from the middle to out is certainly not going to suffice and your valve covers will be leaking again soon enough. Even undoing them has to happen in the same order just in reverse. This is delicate machinery and i have had the pleasure of redoing jobs just because of a wrong torque order
Awesome video although I do have a question. I am working on the driver side currently and I came across one bolt that was stripped and I really don’t know how to go about it. Would you have any ideas for me 😃 I hope you are having a great day thanks
You can drill it and use an easy out, if your not comfortable with that they make stubbier twist out bits for stripped wood screws,. I'm not sure if there is room around the bolt for larger diameter turbo socket to grab the outside of the bolt Here is a link for new bolts. Any other questions feel free to email me at nosleepinc2020@gmail.com. good luck! There are more options as well www.amazon.com/XtremeAmazing-14Pcs-Valve-Quattro-06B103831J/dp/B088LX94C1/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&qid=1617158024&s=automotive&sr=1-1&vehicle=2006-73-984-20--1-6-6-7854-1374-1-1-2482--16&vehicleName=2006+Audi+A6+Quattro
Just to confirm is the head stripped, or is the bolt stripped in the engine. If it's stripped in the engine then you will have to drill and put what's called a helicoil in it
@@nsigarage5212 Without a huge sense of knowledge on what you said lol I believe it’s stripped in the engine. Ummmm I’m not to sure what the head being stripped means. I’m so sorry I’m learning as I go pretty much

Well... If you get oil into the sparkplugs... Most likely you need to replace the gaskets under the camshafts, and the ANAEROBIC sealant as well. Changing only valve cover gasket, won't fix your problem.
I agree with you. The customer originally came for a tune up and the valve cover leaking on to the exhaust. I will add the lower gasket info into the discripton
What are the gaskets under the camshafts called and would it be a job I could do from home? I dont have much experience in working on cars, but I did replace both of my valve cover gaskets in a decent time (like 2 hours or less). I also replaced my camshaft position sensor last week with no hiccups. I would just pay someone to do it but the closest place that'll work on mh car is almost 2 hours away and its an audi dealership.
I believe they are called spark plugs tube seals. It is really a professional job. If you are so much off 1 tooth on the timing chains you can basically total the engine
