In this lesson, we continue our discussion of p values in statistical hypothesis testing. You will learn how to use the p-value to determine whether to reject the alternate hypothesis or fail to reject the alternate hypothesis.
We learn how to calculate the p-value and compare it with the level of significance in the problem in order to determine if we are in the rejection region for the problem.

After wasting much time reading from books and university lecture slides, this is the BEST explanation I have found on why we use p-values. You are a brilliant teacher. There are teachers and there are teachers like you. All the best and thank you very much!

Honesty, I've been struggling to understand the concept of p-values when I took my research paper during the 12th grade. I read a pile of research papers published online and have indeed encountered this esoteric idea about confirming the rejection of null hypothesis using the p-value computed. ONLY, Only when I watched on this video when I finally understood what this idea tries to imply. It took me a lot of days and months and even years figuring this out on my own, since this wasn't discussed really "in depth" during my senior high school years, and it's a total loss for me as a current college student. But now, finally, I am grateful that I have finally understood what, why, and how to compute p-values. I could now relates what certified researchers try to say in their papers published online. Kudos to this great teacher or statistician (I suppose) who made this abstract concept get discussed in a demystified manner a typical freshman student can easily comprehend in less than an hour. Thank you so much, and this means a lot to me, seriously.😊

My experience in making hypothesis: A statistics book published in 1965 had really been my best experience as it simplifies both null and alternative hypothesis. Ho: Most unlikely to find/occur, etc Ha: What researchers need to achieve at the end of their research. The other is what also "practical significance" mean to statistical significance.

Another question: Unlike in theoretical hypothesis, most papers try to set numerous hypothesis by specifying to study objectives. Is it possible to have more than two hypotheses? I don't agree for this to occur.

Hello, great article but i have a question. All the claims that we proving about the population is based just on the sample because z, t, p values are all coming from our sample. What if our sample is biased and not represents the actual population. In this case our z,t p values will be extreme and wont represent the real population. In that case how we can we be 95% or 99% confident to reject null hypothesis?
@suvadipkundu152
@suvadipkundu152 4 года назад
You are right! However, statistics is a bit like law sometimes with some caveat emptors ( I think the closest English translation would be 'buyers beware')..... in this case the caveat is that the sample you draw should be random.. without any exception... Now that's theory and logical one at tahat.. hoever if you insist on establishing if a random trial do not have inherent selection bias.. you might be going down a rabbit burrow :)

you tutorial is awesome sir , but i have a doubt you calculate the p value from the zscore but without fixing the level of significane what are you going to compare the p value with which value of alpha , if my understanding goes right you need to fix the level of significance first and then see if p value is less than alpha to reject null hypo , please clarify on this

You are wrong at one point , when p=alpha ,which happen seldom, this is the situation as judge is in doubt about the accused's guilt despite the evidences put, the judge would give the accused benefit of doubt . I mean you should not reject null hypothesis. Your teaching way is brilliant.
