pmd was my first video game, i started playing it at age 6 and had no idea the impact it would have on me. now i’m almost 21 yeards old going to music school, and this game’s soundtrack still has a huge influence on me. this is a gorgeous arrangement, seriously well done
Oh dude someone’s alive! And I also played it when I was six, this game gave me so many memories and I will never forget it. PMD2 is a true masterpiece!~
I love how the arrangement not only tries to make the Hidden Land seem mystical but it also follows all the events of your team as they struggle more and more. It came out great! Although that loud note at 2:23 definitely gave me a scare xD
This is an amazing arrangement and I appreciate the background behind the different sections too! Also, even if it's not exact or intentional, I thought that the free time part of Var. I at 2:41 was neat because of how the first intervals are similar to the Time Gear theme
I am on the edge of my seat in anticipation for the Final Arc of music! “Through the Sea of Time”, “Temporal Tower,” and the final boss fight are some of my favorite songs in the entire game.
I don't have any of the background in music some of these guys do, but I just want to say it feels like christmas every time I see you've uploaded a new song. I love love love these arrangements, and I love the way you move the camera down the page and edit the shots together. It's so crisp and gorgeous, and the sound just blows me away every time. Thank you so much for these uploads. I always download and listen to them on repeat for weeks on end. I'll be sharing these with my friends
Oh man this is great. The variations conveying the story and hinting at what is to soon to come are just fantastic! You definitely did these justice! It makes me even more excited to see what you come up with for the climax of the main story.
OK. I have listened to this piece/playlist for probably more than a dozen times while I work on art. I really want to write a long comment appreciating how beautiful and touching this experience has been for me, but each time I do remember to, I am in the middle of drawing! So I think I'm going to leave a short comment each time to build this up. First, holy smoke! I love pmd's music, and I love this pmd playlist. While others cover popular pieces, you're doing them all! I know it's rather niche, so your decision and devotion puts me in immeasurable awe. Thank you for your fiery enthusiasm around embarking on the journey of covering the pmd ost!!! It's really refreshing and stirring to hear familiar tracks being casted in a new light that's imbued with richer emotional and stylistic variation. It's simply magnificent! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I found this Hidden Land cover while I was searching up background music for drawing hidden land entrance. It first struck me in length, which suggested to me it's not just another cover but also a zealous, lyrical extended creation. As I went through it, the several stylistically diverse iterations of the original medley enthralled me. It initially came across as as a compartmentalized compilation of covers of many distinct moods, felt especially with the Jazzy elevator part. I then took notice of the video chapter titles for each section, and as I listen to it more and more, the variations start to vividly picture a full episodic sequence, an emotional rollercoaster accompanied by shifts in surrounding sceneries. Seeing something appearing out of the clouds; approaching the tiny lonely island; entering the forest; treacherous terrain; shrouding canopy with overwhelming darkness... Such immersion, I love it helplessly! Honestly, the sudden increase in piano volume approaching the end of the floating island part caught me off guard the 1st time. But now I think it really captures the astounding moment of having the full sight of the island unveiling from the clouds and atmosphere. I love the entirely of this piece! If I were to pick one favourite though, I will chose from the point of no return to high resistance. The sublime building up of tension through repetitive short duo beats rock! Eventually it comes to an epiphany, an enlightenment, a resolution. It's like traversing through the darkest dawn hours of the forest to a valley opening to welcome the glory of a rising sun. (Only! to run head into Dusknoir's schemes) So dramatic it's pulling on my heart strings. Wonderful work. (Also in case you don't know, your channel banner looks like 5羊, which means five sheep xD.)
I can't express how much I appreciate this comment! Thank you very much!! I always want to make these covers unique in their own way (whether through reinterpreting them entirely or simply changing instrumentation)! Many other people have also covered these PMD tracks before so I like to cover the turf that's been left untouched. I remember spending quite a long time on this arrangement particularly for a solo piano sheet (probably as much time as the longer Time Gear arrangement I did in June). At first, you were right in a sense, that these were just random variations with no solid link between them. It's only until around Var III. where I decided to associate some sort of storyline to it. I find that giving some background, no matter how cliche ahaha, adds much more to the music than if I were to just slam ideas at it. Though it's not always immediately clear what that storyline is until you read an explanation and not many people read descriptions on RU-vid... I'm really grateful that you've spent time reading the wall of text (and taking away time you'd be using to draw :p) and appreciating the arrangement as a whole!! I recall actually not liking how I approached high resistance because I wanted to do a lot more with that polyphonic section (around m114) but I couldn't satisfyingly write what I wanted with just two hands on the piano. The transition to d's scheming also felt really abrupt (and I think you could also tell lol), 'jazz elevator' really doesn't go well with dramatic tension. Ah I kind of see it lol It's kind of funny cos Chinese is my mother tongue but I didn't spot the resemblance
@@FiveNineSquared I share that impulsion to reinterpret the original scenes! >< (although in visual form through fanarts) I respect your explorer spirit in covering what's unvisited! I enjoy listening to instrumental music, yet I hardly delved deep into the performance, the theory and the creation aspect of it as much as I had wished (yikes, I will get to studying it someday). It's pretty neat to have a glimpse into your creative considerations in the description, which really shows your devoted care. Seeing how thoughtfulness takes form in an different medium (as opposed to my visual one) is inspiring. I have come to find the transition from high resistance to d's scheming smoother as I put more loops in. I think imagination makes meaning of a purposeful arrangement. It is how a montage works. If anything, I think the abruptness in transition corresponds to the original unexpectedness when it comes to d's ambush. To add to that, as experienced players, we already know what we'd be expecting if we tagged after the protags' group further. In that sense, by plotting an unexpected change in pov (from protags preparing the rainbow stoneship to d awaiting his moment), it puts a double, novel emphasis on the reveal that d tactically outwitted them by ambushing them at a inevitable pass. Even more, the undue shift to levity whispers how crisply and easily protags' monumental effort in reaching this point (namely, all the previous music build-up) could have mounted to nothing. It renders an uncanny atmosphere foreshadowing what's to come, as well as, delineates how certain d was, about being able to successfully quell protags' quest. That's why I think it has been more effective than you think. As creators we all tend to be more sensitive to the mistakes in our works; whereas to a less professional audience, it is just as well-done as other parts. I can only imagine how challenging making this a piano composition was. But thereby, your cover will have the potential to be performed by a (very skillful) pianist, and I find that outlook an attractive one. (I think 5羊 is the case where the more familiar you're with the music notation, the easier you're to miss the resemblance xD. It's like ツ the smiley face.) (In that case with your language dexterity, have you considered posting your covers to bilibili? There are pmd fans in china and I'd love to be able to share these with friends who could have trouble accessing youtube.)
@@Awniber Thank you for your reply once again! Really do appreciate your interpretations here. I relate a lot to that point about being self deprecating your own works... same -- If this arrangement is ever conquered by any pianist I will scream. Like holy hell this is a hard arrangement to play. I'd be extremely excited to see a recording of this being played irl As for the making a BiliBili page, I did try to make one last weekend but my Chinese really is quite 糟糕 and I had to use Google translate to understand a lot of the text, especially for the little quiz they give you on signing up. I'll consider posting some of my more popular arrangements there, but I'm also not sure of how well it'd be received.
always thought the original reminded me of a track from a ghibli movie and the 1st arrangement here brings that feeling through well : ) the rest is excellent too, great arrangement
Thanks! Considering there're like two Ghibli movies with floating "islands" (i guess they're actually castles but...) that's not so much of a stretch :p
