06-22-2018 Lorena, TX 300 acre grass fire with homes threatened and aerial views

Friday afternoon a grass fire quickly spread to approx 300 acres and threatened to homes on Ritchie Rd. in Lorena. Fire Department personnel positioned 2 of their trucks in front of the homes to defend them and resulted in 2 of the firefighters being taken to the hospital for heat and smoke related concerns according to Lorena Asst. Fire Chief , Derek Roper. Drone footage was shot at the request of Asst. Chief Roper to assist in their assessment of the scene. The area of the fire was between Ritchie Rd. and Warren Rd. TX Department of Public Safety officers went home to home to inform residents of the impending danger from the fire but their were no forced evacuations. Preliminary cause of the fire was from a farm shredder working in a field. There is a high fire danger here and a burn ban is in place. Temperatures were near 100 degrees in the area at the time.
