sucks when you open one up, and it needs 2k worth of hard parts. (Just looked stuff up, prices change so much so quickly.. looks like thankfully it's about 1k worth of parts now)
I'm just a little NW of Charlotte, and we were w/o power & internet for 3 days, but NOTHING compared to the mountains and Asheville area.....devastation! Prayers to all those people, the first responders, EMT's, and law enforcement for trying to keep people safe. I'm part of a group sending whatever supplies we can out that way.
I had a 2008 trailblazer ss had the transmission repaired once and replaced once. I finally got rid of it when it spun a bearing and shot a connecting rod out of the block.
That five pinion planet would make a beautiful paperweight and I don’t work on cars for a living, but everyone I talk to you hates the Those Chevy SS trailblazer
I'm more surprised that someone actually paid for a transmission repair on one of these pieces of junk. Yikes. Always hated the look of these things, like they couldn't decide if it was going to be an SUV or a minivan. It really looks like that cooler needed some sort of skid plate or guard underneath it.
Ouch. All the sensors & computer stuff... why not a transmission fluid level sensor [and a gauge]? Nevermind a leak, but just being low while towing is trouble. Every quart has some cycle rate per hour through the pump & clutches...which goes up if level is low - thats extra heat every time.
Richard, can one of these 4L60-65-70 E units be built to handle a big block reliably or is that 100% 4L80E territory only? I know several companies offer "mega built" 4L60's but stabbing it behind a turbocharged, injected Nailhead making 600-800 ft lbs in a 4400 lb daily driver Riviera, well I trust my ST400 not to leave me walking home, but I want overdrive. A company makes a bolt on Nailhead bell housing for the 4L60E that makes installing one into a 1st gen Riviera fit perfect. I also have a Bendstens Speed Gems kit to adapt the 4L80E to the nail. The 60 having less parasitic loss and a taller overdrive ratio is certainly desirable. The deep 1st gear maybe not needed with the absurd low end torque these engines produce. Curious what your thoughts are, Love the channel! Thanks!
Richard, talk to a company called PCB Way. They might be able to help you design a solution for the input speed sensor plug. They can do more than just PCB design and wiring. They also do 3d printing in metal. You can order one at a time, or a hundred at a time, doesn't matter. You can also make alterations to your design to perfect it as you see fit. Have a great day, Sir and Mrs. And God Bless. o7
Hell Ya! Rebuilt my TBSS 4L70E 5 years ago... this gave me anxiety after you pulled the 3-4 drum out and down into the depths of hell after the sunshell came out 😂😂
Having lived through two major floods in northern Pennsylvania, Agnes in 1972 and Eloise in 1975, I can tell you that not much is more devastating than a flood from a Hurricane. Tornadoes are terrible, but very localized so the areas damaged have large undamaged areas around them still equipped to help them. The widespread damage of a Hurricane flood makes recovery exceedingly difficult as help often has to come from hundreds of miles away.
My ONLY complaint about these videos is he never shows the rebuild, just the teardown. It would be nice to see them being built to last. But regardless I love the videos because he knows his stuff.
I wish you shot the removal. I pulled the tranny in our 2004 Envoy XUV with the 5.3 a couple years ago and what a pain. All the RU-vid videos I could find were the 4200 straight 6 and that is much easier than the V8.
Hello, I have a 2003 Trailblazer, does anyone know if you can monitor the transmission temperature thru the OBD port. I have a Bluetooth model a it stats not supported?
I have a 2006 TBSS since new (2005) and I've gone through 5 trans, including two RPM trans. The one I have now we started off with a new GM crate 4L70 Supermatic, then cracked it open and replaced everything we could with Sonnax parts (except for a few things - a billet pump and a PTC converter, B&M cooler - which I've always used starting with trans #3 - bypassing the stupid radiator that's breached twice). So far it's lasted 3 years without doing something bad, so I'm feeling like perhaps it's going to be ok.
Since the transmission has temperature sensors, doesn’t GM thrown an alarm when the temperature is exceeded? Seems like that would get the driver’s attention before they completely smoked the transmission. If there is no alarm for over temp, why bother with the temp sensor in the first place?
Seems that maybe a trip to a salvage yard might be the best plan vs. spending a couple thousand on those 5 pinion planets and more hard parts. Of all the transmission tear downs on this channel, I think this one is the worst of them all when it comes to damaged parts.
So I'm confused, you claim you don't do anything but transmissions, but your diagnosing off camera overheating issues and such? I get you rebuild the transmissions you do and they are great from what i hear and see, but if your fixing other issues with vehicles, that changes everything? Makes me wonder if you have people come in and fix things
He specializes in transmissions and is easily one of the best - so yeah, of course who would doubt him that he can’t fix/repair other things? lol… silly question bro. That firebird is his & impressive isn’t the word to describe it. Any wrencher will have their strengths and weaknesses. Diagnosing overheating issues isn’t as tedious as building a 2000HP mean machine……
@@Thumper68 The oil cooler road debris damage is what created the mechanical failure. A good insurance company will cover some if not all of the repair costs.
I need my 4l60 done it keeps running at 200 temp up to 212 at idle on a 88 degree day exchanged fluid and did filter temp still keeps getting up there no trans cooler need to add one have to run heat full blast ac off recirculating off to cool it down to 180
That’s normal especially if you have bigger tires.. but your best bet the cheapest way, drain and refill with new fluid and flush the cooler/lines. Should help a bit, if not, get a tru-cool 4k with new lines. You’ll see a difference without a doubt then.
