Hi Robin, I just finished installing the rear camera. Your videos have been awesome and a massive help, in fact I wouldn't even have thought doing it without your help. The install went really well, and everything works perfectly. For information, I didn't need to solder any wiring. Bringing the wiring from the car body through the rubber sheath into the trunk lid, I taped up the camera wiring and connectors as small as possible and then greased the outside of the tape pretty heavily with ordinary grease and it pushed through fairly easily. To get the wiring through the lid beside the number plate I removed the opener and drilled against the edge of the opener button slot, basically adding a notch to the slot. The camera went through the space where the button sits and the wiring through the drilled notch. Like you I used a little sealant to ensure a watertight seal. Thanks again for the great instruction. Now on to the front camera :)
Thanks for your guidance Robin, thought I'd share my experience following your video. I have a 4.2 and although in theory, the shells should be the same as a 4.7, I lacked the hole in the firewall to fish the cable through. I then discovered that to the very rear, underneath the shelf (you need to remove) there are two holes which go into the trunk, much easier to route the cable this way I feel. And whilst you're there and for those that don't have power via the headunit , a fuse tap to the reverse fuse in the boot saves having to tap into the reverse light wire, further lessening the amount of cable routing required.
Thanks Robin, never hesitate to contact me if you have any do it yourself questions regarding anything Maserati 🔱 Granturismo. Good job on routing your reverse camera cable. It was a heavy stuff task to remove the backseats and the trunk carpets. Good job, Robin. Great shared video.
Great job I'm looking forward to installing mine thanks for all the email help, also i was not going to replace my unit but when i saw yours i was in thanks.
Another option where I used the existing number plate light and hole to minimise drilling through the panel. The existing number plate light plastic waterproof housing also provides water tight operations.
how do you connect the camera to your "Reverse gear" ? did i miss something? .... so when you put the car in reverse, how does the camera turns on? ( i know you said the headunit powers the camera)
