A mix of food, drink, betting and gambling can be seen on Cranbrook Road, a stone's throw from Ilford station. Until the early 2010s recruitment agencies still had a foothold here, but like with others further up the road they have made way for newer types of business as the commercial centre continues to evolve. A constant since 1997 is Jono's Irish pub and here we see it in its run-up to opening...

I can still remember the smell of Planters' Coffee House from the 60s! I think it was a bit further North from here, just before the bend. Keep 'em coming, please.

I don't doubt it. I don't think we've seen a photo of Planters online. Hopefully someone has one in an old shoebox or something and it will one day see the light! Glad you like them, thanks for supporting the channel and sharing your memories 👍

I never knew Etam was on Cranbrook Road. I remember my mum used to go there in 80s. I kept away from it😂😂😂

You did the right thing. Being dragged round the shops was the worst way to spend a day in town 😅

Mum took me to Ilford in the 60s… Harrison Gibson and Bearmans, then drive to Perth Road and walk past the model boating lake to the pavilion in Valentine’s Park for ice cream then feed the squirrels… idyllic times long gone….

Thanks for your comment; wonderful memories. The model boating lake is something which doesn't appear to have been photographed very much before its demise. The cafe at Valentines still lives on and the park itself remains in much the same layout as 100 years ago - comforting that some things never change.
