I was watching another video that showed a lot of destruction. I commented that many of those structures were not built to withstand a CAT 3. In most place around the Gulf, most structures are supposed to be able to withstand a CAT 3. In this video you can see which ones were built to withstand a CAT 3 and which ones weren't.

Looks like most of the homes went unscathed. Very surprising.

This is not Ono Island. This is Florida, Perdido Key on the Intracoastal waterway. Thats the marina right next to the Theo Baars Bridge at the end.

Looks like the only things that can't handle storm surge are boats!

I'm looking at all those destroyed boats that were easily worth $100k+ and ended up asking myself: "What the point of having material possessions? Why did these owners not shuttle them inland to a storage unit?" Sometimes in life, it's easier if you have LESS possessions and simplify your life..

I see a whole lot of insurance claims being paid out, whew, gonna cost a fortune! Those boats are not cheap. Luckily most of the homes, yards and pools are untouched. But, still an expensive payout.

Why were all of these boats left in the water? Shouldn't you take your boat out and move it to higher ground for a hurricane with a storm surge?

All that fibreglass and oil, fuel etc polluting the water, they should have to pay for it cleaning up, live there so close to the water will always come with risk.

Some of it not too bad ... Everything gotta be planned and built better strategic ahead of time pray and hope for the best the storm passes through. You should already have your go to place cousins in land when these storms on way

I'm shocked that the homes are still standing.

This video starts at Theo Barr’s bridge on the ICW and heads west for about a mile, and stops just about even with the Sunset Grill on the opposite bank. It’s then jumps to the Oyster Bar Marina & Resturant. Barr’s bridge is in background. Lots of damage to marina & resturant. Not sure of boat launch. It might be the new one in the Big Lagoon State Park. It’s almost directly across from the Marina & restaurant

I'm guessing that the boats that are swamped will probably structurally sound enough once refloated. However, I would expect any electrical or mechanical would need a complete overhaul and/or replacement. I should never have to worry about any of that with a 12' jonboat and a trolling motor :)

After seeing what Hugo did to Puerto Rico and than South Carolina, when Andrew formed at 25.2 lat and came West, I tied off in the Mangroves, headed up US 1 and than inland. Boat survived as well as us.

Sure woulda been cool if the title of the video actually described the video. this video not only doesn’t show ono island. it doesn’t show orange beach or the state of alabama at all. not one inch of any of it.

Ono Island is one of the richest residential areas in that part of Florida/Alabama. It's entrance is guarded and you have to cross over their bridge to enter.

What amazes me is athere is plenty of warning and advisories out - why not TDRAILER FOR BOAT and take it inland far enough to protect it - and your docks etc, cause with it gone it's not beating the dock to death - and raising everyone elses insurance bills - hmmmmmmmm

His is not Ono Island, just eastern Orange Beach.

Notice some houses are devestated and others untouched. The ones untouched were built to the building codes or beyond. Building when you or your contractor doesn't know what they are doing, or cheating the codes only hurts yourself and costs you time/money/heartbreak in the end. Do it right, do it once.

Really sad and no disrespect but you can see what happens to old stuff (piers, moorings, decks) when a storm rolls through. You can see the storm surge did not go up that far and a solid pier should not be ripped up even in a Cat 3. Now when you have older stuff and maybe a deck was built on where it shouldn't have been. An awning here an over sized boat for the pier there, boats docked stern out... you have a mess...

This hurricane was no Ivan or michael. Thats for sure. But I do believe it was grossly underrated by the forecasters. The slow movement was the reason for the worst of the damage. Never underestimate mother nature!!
