Sure they do...each generation has a few "Annie Clarks", but they get forgotten. Annie Clark is here and how, for this generation of music...and she's interesting and talented, but there have been so many other great women in music that can rock an axe: Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Joan Jett, Liz Phair, Bonnie Raitt, Susan Tedeschi...to name a few.
Effects, pedals, distortion. All elements that the artist deploys in her work. St Vincent clearly does something very special to elicit this kind of reaction.
The choppy licks @ 3:21 pump her up, then taking the capo off, it's like she goes into cataplexy, then channels (song's subject) Monroe's arm-to-head pose @ 3:43, & steroidal Santana shred!
Hmmm. Someone said Masseduction is the best album of 2019. I just think it is wrong to try to put St Vincent's ducks in a row. There is just so much stuff. It is really hard to remember how great most of it is.
“I always find it interesting when someone wants you to go back to ‘when you were good,’ ” Yuskavage said. “This is why we liked you.” Quote from this rather interesting article: www.gq.com/story/st-vincent-and-art-of-never-being-boring/amp?__twitter_impression=true
I would also like to say that my cousin told me to listen to Strange Mercy & that St Vincent is an amazing guitarist & I listened & thought hmmm where’s the guitar?? But now I see. These strange and wonderful sounds are guitar. She’s taken it to the next level for sure.
It's about time there was a female guitar goddess. She makes me feel very funny inside. VERY. Just POW! Thank you rock Gods for gracing us with her presence! 🎸 I bow to her.
This whole concert is some kind of high point of human achievement. I'm thinking it wouldn't be be too late to cut a new version of the Voyager 2 Golden Records including all of these videos then fire them off on a Falcon 9 and zap the out of date ones on the way out into the cosmos. Who's with me, Elon Musk?
She's pretty amazing. My only wish is that when she started doing the crazy distortion stuff that it was from an analog tone chain instead of digital. She is always very high concept, and plays well enough to get away with it.
She's a guitar god! You can tell most of the audience is confused and doesn't get that they are hearing a prodigy genius here. I'm assuming this is Annie Clark's band. She's badass and gives me hope for rock.
It's very hard to generate a decent atmosphere for this kind of performance during the day. She really should have been scheduled for a night-time slot, people would have lost their minds.
Couple years late but if you haven't found an explanation already, the Eventide Pitchfactor, which she's been known to use, has a monophonic synth setting to basically give your guitar a pseudo-synth sound, complete with pitch gliding. It glitches mightily when playing multiple notes together and causes a lot of random pitch shifts, high and low, sometimes gliding quickly between them. It's awesome.
중앙동 CeeJay wat the fuck ya guys are talkin' about here ?? I'm had no fuckin' idea that koreans also listen to st. vincent .. You guys must be unique there..
That was some serious "bring me your loves" shit, and i don't mean it songwise, but the way she interacts with the crowd and what goes through her head at that moment. Especially from 2:27 to 2:47 It looked like she went out to beg for a praise and after recieving it she rewarded audience with this strong emotional singing or maybe just had some "singer orgasm". Now i get what she was trying to do with all this weird performance action on the scene: to show a theatrical parody of herself, basically
What she was saying is that she is the kind of woman who gives herself to the crowd and enjoys it. And yeah, you are supposed to be disturbed by that a little, but that's okay, she doesn't mind. (Also, can't believe she is so clever. Just wow)
For God's Sake why won't she just humble herself enough to admit she can't play the guitar and devote some time to learning at least enough to play something worth listening to when she has a guitar break to fill in with.
