You make a mistake at the description. You should write 95% inefficiency because mosfet is working in linear mode and lots of energy wasted as heat. But I have to admit 5A rated transformer is able to supply 60A of current. That's really more than 100% efficient!👍

You're right. The author is a layman. The design is nonsense. IIRFP250N, Ptot = 214W (= max. 21.4V x 10A).

The circuit drawing resistors are not on right position to practical prototype. NPN. 100K AND 220 OHMS You need to change it and put to the right position according to what you tested with transformer. . It's not correspondin because 100k should go to gate to source and 220 ohms emitter to centre of variable resistor..

Neither the transformer nor the MOSFET are 60 amp, irfp250n is 30 amp max

Just show the right Ampere. Dont tell us a lie. That Mosfet cannot make 60 Ampere that way... But may be you dont know how to check amperage...
