If we use 100% essential oils as scent material, how much can they be in the overall composition including alcohol/carrier oil? Because I've heard 20% dilution which would make it an EDP is still very potent or even harmful.
You have to look at each essential oils properties. Most of the Herb ones are pretty low irritancy. But the Spice ones can be very hot and burning. The Phenolic oils (Basil, Thyme etc.) can be toxic in concentration. But generally speaking it is not a good idea to use perfumes on the skin (diffuse from clothing, handkerchiefs, hair etc). If you do use on the skin, use low total concentrations ie. 3% or less and keep the total of the irritating ones to below 0.5%. (Note: These guidelines are based on the total mixture NOT 3% of 1 oil + 3% of another oil + irritating oils 0.5% each)
@@PerfumersWorld Thanks a lot for replying. I made a 20% EO blend with the rest being Jojoba oil. (6-7 different essential oils each between 1-3%.) And even that doesn't last over 2-3 hours. If I make one with only 3% in total, I don't think it's gonna stay long at all.
@@danlightened If you are only using essential oils then it will be difficult to get a really long odour life unless its things like Sandalwood Oil. I suggest you take a look at our free course online or contact me through the website contact page for more. Link is on the Channel or Google our name.
@@PerfumersWorld Yes I've watched a lot of these videos and it has been the most helpful. I would have definitely even joined you in real life but unfortunately I'm from India. And I think you all are in the West.
