I am trying to get Mojave or at least High Sierra to work on my 1,1. If I upgrade my original 2X 5150 2.66 Ghz Dual Core CPUs to 2X X5365 3.0 Ghz Quad Core CPUs, would it permit me to upgrade from El Capitan to Mojave? Any input is appreciated.
Greg... Through some troubleshooting, I switched the front button, USB FireWire, etc assembly, and it works... But for how long? I've had the power supplies switched out, put them back. Thanks for all the info.
That won't work and if it somehow gets anywhere it'll brick the 3,1. Completely different architecture and chipsets/boards/sockets (the 3,1 is the odd one in the 1,1-5,1 range as the 1,1 can flashed to a 2,1 just as a 4,1 can be to a 5,1). I looked into all this before buying my 3,1. Greg covers all sorts about support and upgrades in these playlists on the mac pros anyways.
I was Fortunate to Grab 2 of 3, Mac Pro 3.1s that the Place where I was Working was throwing out to Recycle they Work Perfect. I didn't know much about them, just that they use to be Top Dog Computers. So I had them sitting around for over 4 years. Till I Did Some Research, So Yeah.🤨
Excellent video, thanks for all the dedication and hard work you put into this. I just bought a 3,1 x2 2.8ghz with 16gb of 667mhz ram (it needs to be 800mhz) and a faulty Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT that I tried to fix by cleaning with alcohol and putting new thermal paste on it but that did not work. I paid $50.00 for it after testing it out using his 2010 Mac pros GPU. I have a high Sierra clone that I'm gonna patch and wanted to know which GPU I can use after the patch that would work with it and be a good used buy yet still powerful. Will any GPU work as long as I find one that supports high Sierra? Sorry but I'm just a bit lost right now but have done this patch many times over though never have had to mess with flashing GPU's and such and just wondering what my options are and what I would need to do. Thanks so much and keep up the amazing work!
Hi, I found this video, very interesting, cause I made nearly the same. But I decided to put 2 NVIDIA GTX1080Ti in it. At first, it was great. but than I need to go to High Sierra for several applications and because of this I hat to pull out one of the Vidcards, because no working driver for two cards anymore. But sadly enough, I stick on High Sierra now, because this is the last system with NVIDIA support. My question now, one year after you published the video, is the Radeon VII still the fastest AMD card for the 5,1 Mac Pro? And does it have full hardware acceleration of H264/H265 encoding and decoding in apps like Premiere or DaVinci Resolve? This is a core question, because the NVIDIAs have this but only under Windows, which I don't really want to switch to. Thank you for a short comment to my questions. All the best, Jan.
At the time yes it was the most powerful and it worked great. You just needed to patch it so it would use hardware acceleration which was really easy to do and still is today.
Late as hell reply, but in short, you have to modify the El Cap installer to support a 32 bit EFI Boot. You could try to flash the Pro, but it doesn’t change anything.
thabks for the video! I'm planning to upgrade the cpu in my Mac 3.1 trying to find in the market the X5482 3.2 Slanz I have a doubt about matched pair, is it enough that both cpu are Slanz? or they need something else to be matched pair? thanks everyone for help
Thank you very much for this video, I think you could not have explained it better, you solved all the doubts I had. I think it's time to buy a 3.1, but unfortunately in my country they are worth around 500 €. Could you tell me where I can buy a cheaper one? Greetings from Spain.
+Jose Lucena you'll have to just look around and maybe join some online forums and chat groups... I got mine from the macproupgrade group on Facebook, they have a lot of international people on there if you wanna see if someone from Spain could help you out ;)
I got my 1.1 upgraded to 2.1 with your videos, 32GB of ram and X5365's, and a Radeon HD 5770 flashed for Apple... I think this machine cannot go further, now I need to get a cheap 5.1 hehehehe if it exists...
I forgot... It's also running on El Capitan via EFI file hack, but I know it still has a 32 bit EFI and something over it translating the 64bit calls and responses to 32 bit. To have a 64Bit EFI on a 1.1/2.1 you will need to code an EFI by yourself and probably replace the EEPROM for a bigger one for the new EFI to fit. I know of no one that has gone this far modding his 1.1 and probably won't see it until someone get Apple's EFI source files.
I have a mac pro 3,1 with 1x4 core processor, is it possible to install a second processor or is it better to seek a new mac pro 3,1with two processors?
I've been having trouble with my 2008 3,1 dual quad 2.8ghz mac pro, my computer starts fine but after a little while (15-90min) it will glitch or it will restart and it won't recognize half the ram that is installed. i used to have 32gb of 800mhz ram but after taking my computer to a shop they said half my ram was bad, and considering i had bought it off of eBay i believed them and took the computer home. After 6 hours of use with only my remaining 16gb of ram installed the issue occurred again and i was down to showing only 8gb of the remaining 16gb. i took the computer back to the shop and now they're saying theres a kernel error and that i need a new CPU. So my question is do you think the CPU is really the problem, and why does my ram keep failing, do you think the problems are linked? do you think a cpu swap and maybe a ram swap would fix my problems? I have already bought replacement ram 56gb of pc2-5300 667mhz (is that going to be ok to run in my 3,1 2008 mac, I've been reading a lot of debates on the topic and am unsure) and if i replace the CPU's am i ok upgrading to 2x X5482 SLANZ 3.2ghz or should i stick to the stock 2x E5462 SLANT 2.8ghz? I just want my computer to work and i would appreciate any advice or recommendations you could provide thank you.
hello there can anyone help me since the owner of this channel dont answer ours comments. Can a mac pro 2.1 o 1.1 work for audio recordingo or an studio recording....thanks this is my question
Dude I’ve been on hiatus 😑… it’ll work totally fine especially if you don’t mind using older software because you’ll also save money using older software. That’s one of the many reasons why these systems were built
I'm typing this on my 3,1. SSD boot drive. 2x 3.2Ghz quad-core X5482 64GB 667MHz DDR2 buffered ECC server ram bought off EBay for less than $100 NVIDIA GeForce 1060 graphics card (mac flashed, so cost 30% more, used) I know it supports 800MHz but 800MHz RAM is 3x the price used, and almost 6x the price new from OWC! I'd rather sacrifice a little bit of speed for capacity. I've had this machine for 11 years. It's getting to the point where a Mac Mini might make a decent upgrade, Anyone have tips how I could wring more performance out of this thing?
HA! 200-300$ for mac pro 3,1! i thing not! i just got a macpro 3,1 for 62$ shipped to my door off ebay! and its the dual 2.8 ghz zeon model! although ups broke one of the feet on it and bent the crap out of it!
