Hi everyone! welcome to another edition of 1+1 on the program tonight Jay Watts the former Central Organizer of the Communist Party of Canada, photojournalist, historian, left-wing activist and media and NGO critic came back on the program to discuss the recent Mexican Judicial reform under the outgoing popularly twice elected President AMLO and why this is very important and why there was soo much right-wing and corporate/state media hostility and violent attempts to stop it. For those interested in Latin American affairs and wanting left-wing revolution and radical reforms you won't want to miss this important discussion. These were some of the questions I asked that Jay who is a member of a Mexico Solidarity group answered.
1.Always an honor to get the chance to speak to you. My first question and the reason I wanted to have you on for this current affairs episode is talk to our audience about this big judicial reform the outgoing President of Mexico, AMLO who is a social democratic reformer, he’s done lots of major reforms and super gains for Mexico and is leaving with a higher approval rating then any president before him. He still has a mandate to do major policies and began this judicial reform. Firstly explain to us what it was, and I’m not surprised it got opposition, but was stunned at how violent the protests were so talk to us about the judicial reforms and why it was met with such aggressive protests?
2. Who were behind the protests, and was the US and Canada involved, they both expressed concerns and were against it, and were they AstroTurf?
3. Under AMLO have we seen a dramatic decrease in illegal Mexican migration to the US?
4. What is happening with Brazil under Lula in terms of prosecuting the Bolsanaro cult followers who stormed the Barricade and tried to do a January 6th style putsch?

@@Yourismouter I first read about Mexico’s judicial reform at some think tank that was criticizing it. I figured that it must be a good thing if a think tank, funded by big corporations, was criticizing it. 🤭

@@MsCat71 haha! exactly! and I wish more people who are leftist or left leaning would adopt that view. Anytime I start seeing protests covered favorably by the Western press like the protests against Daniel Ortega for his necessary social security reforms, the Hong Kong protests against an extradition bill against MURDERS! every single Anti-MAduro/Chavez protest or whatever is the latest color revolution happening in the Eastern European region or any neighbor of Russia, you know the West is up to something shady and evil and the Western corporate/state press are just acting as agents of imperialism. That's why I no longer object to governments being very strict or kicking out Semi-NGOS, and NGOS which have been acting as agents of the western states. Glad Mexico Judicial reforms got passed, I'm amazed AMLO has managed to overcome many storms in Mexico, but as John Ackerman said, "he's a chess player not a football player or boxer".
