Today was the last ride of the season. Ever since David at Dspec in montreal did the all balls rebuild my bike has worked great. I hit 30 hours today so 11 hours since the fix. So far so good. Will keep you all posted next april lol

@@IsrafelWorld thanks for the updates. Other people have commented that they replaced with a new OEM pump and the problem returned a handful of hours later. But its nice to hear that so far the all balls kit is been a solid fix.

BTW this happened at 12hrs took it back to dealer put on yet another oem fuel pump and 11.5hrs later happened again got All Balls rebuild kit on the way. 2022 Kawasaki kx250x I expect to see a recall

Did you get a warranty I just had this happen to mine today Kx 450 maybe 20 hours and it left me stranded in the desert after 20 mins of running turned it off then went back to turn it on and just kept cranking

@@danielm16345 no we haven't heard anything from kawi yet. But with the pump being on back order as of the date the video was made you would think kawi clearly knows they have a ton of fuel pumps going out

Had an ext warranty with the dealer but now I’m at 48 hrs and it’s doing it again!

@@PABLOIZTAKEN it seems as long as the OEM pump is used the problem just comes back some hours later. Unfortunately. This really needs to be addressed by kawasaki. But for now the only fix that seems to hold the test of time is the quantum or all balls kit. So far so good on them with these new kawis

So your having a fuel pump relay issue and also a spark issue at the same time? Did you try disconnecting the kill switch and see if that helps. I once had a kill switch that was going bad and it would kill the bike on jump landings

@@UpAllNight91 yeah I disconnected my kill switch, also tried a friends relay. I just dropped it off at the dealership because I was lost on what to do next

@@UpAllNight91 the dealership says it's my crank position sensor and that I have to replace my whole stator. They contacted Kawasaki for help on it due to such low hours and should hear back tmrw.

Hello. I think the fuel tanks get dirt in them when filling the tank with gas, we are often in a dirty environment out riding when we top off the tanks and our gas can thats been out with us getting dusted all day. I first most bikes have some sand on the bottom of the tank.

Hello. I would do the timing chain at the same time I do the top end. Checking the valve clearance never hurts though. The kx450 is kinda know to pop some on decel and yours might be normal

The rebuild kit

Yeah. I would surely check the PSI reaches around 50psi and also make sure it holds its PSI with just a slow gradual drop when power is removed from the pump.

What would cause it to loose psi?

Many things can cause it to have low PSI. A worn and tired pump motor or a bad fuel pressure regulator. Another thing that comes to mind if you find everything good then try back flushing or replacing the fuel Injector. A weak or partially clogged Injector can cause your issues too.

Thanks for watching! I agree. It is weird and I'm kinda expecting a recall soon too. The fuel pumps on back order so thats to be noticed and should be a red flag. Is it a fuel pump issue or ECU issue? They run and start up fine when new and later something changes. A new fuel pump seems to fix the issue. They surely gotta fix or change something

I just replaced the pump with a quantum rebuild kit and it fixed my SR too I don’t get it start cold won’t when hot????

I would power up the pump with a 12 volts battery as you seen in the video. And check the PSI. Very seldom is it a fuel filter issue. Much more common is the pump or regulator thats gone out. So I would check with a 12 volt battery and a pressure gauge (can purchase at harbor freight for about 25 bucks)

No trouble codes at all. Just wouldn't restart after it was hot

That seems to be common with the newer KX450 and KX250. I have found sometimes the OEM battery is just weak. For a test try putting on a battery charger and if she fires right up then its just a weak battery. Also it helps to make sure the choke is on on the very first attempt of cold start. If the choke is forgotten and a start attempt is made then its a up hill battle lol

Its normal to see it go down to 10 or so while the starter is cranking. That starter robs most of the batteries juice. I would say seeing 10v while cranking is normal

Oh man, they are all hot lol. 450s run hot. But yeah the KX450 is kinda a narrow bike for sure.

BTW, they did end up doing a recall on that fuel pump. This video was made before the recall came out.

When was the last top end done? In the past on kick start 4 strokes that give random hot and cold hard starting i have found a fresh top end helps on them

@@UpAllNight91 I just put a new piston in it, plus the bike probably only has 30 hours on it.

Wouldn't hurt to check that the fuel pump holds pressure after power is removed from it. On a kick start bike it surely helps if the pump holds pressure between kicks

I would pull the tank and put power to the pump to see if its working ok. If it is then check the connection between the bike and pump. Its gotta be one of them two things

@@UpAllNight91 that wasn't it I made a video and posted it on my channel but what happened was the ECU behind the front number plate slid down to where the wires were rubbing on the triple clamp, and it broke two wires in the wiring harness the rubber mount that holds the ECU in place broke, which allowed it to slide down onto the clamps

I would start by checking the pump. Make sure its producing good fuel pressure. If thats good then try back flushing the injector.

I have heard they have since recalled the pumps. You may want to check with the dealer.

Hello. Is the trouble code light or check engine light blinking while the bike is running? Any trouble codes? Also I would pull the tank and check that the fuel pump builds pressure fast and holds pressure well.

Hello. I would start by first charging the battery. I had a 23 here a few days ago with 8 hours on it and it was doing the exact same thing. I charged the battery, turned the choke on and gave it zero throttle and it finally fired right up. I would try that first. on a bike as young as this.

@@UpAllNight91 thanks for the reply! It’s going in to the dealer Wednesday, but oddly enough, it started on the second try this morning about 15 minutes ago. The bike sits on a battery tender when it’s not being ridden. I’ll ask him to check the battery as well.

@@UpAllNight91 they are going to replace the fuel pump because mine supposedly is one of the ones affected per the recall. I just don’t know why Kawasaki would issue a recall and then put the same exact fuel pump in the bike for it to possibly just fail again? I’m sure they revised the pump somehow or at least you’d think that would be the smart thing to do. But thank you for your detailed video, if it happens again, I’m just gonna go with that all balls pump when I put a bigger tank on the bike.

@@Mystorytilnow yes. The stock battery is not the best. I have replaced them with the tusk lithium battery with good luck. Better cold starting. I too hope they updated that oem pump. Otherwise its just going to go bad again in no time lol

@@chirlim yup! We did a. All balls rebuild and the bike works great. 11hrs in and no issues. Season is over today but will keep you posted next april when we start up again . if you do a rebuild, make sure the o rings are placed well. 50 psi has to be the pressure reading.

Ok. I would start with a new spark plug first. Sometimes that can cure this.

It could be. The best way to know would be to test the fuel pressure that the pump produces, just like I did in this video.

I never heard of a fuel injector recall. Maybe they meant fuel pump? there is a fuel pump recall. Unless they now have a injector recall that I havent heard about yet.

I'm sure there is. In my experience. Many people bring me fuel pumps that they tried to put a kit in and they got it wrong. I correct it and they go off fine. And I have put that kit in probably 20 bikes now myself and pretty much all of them are doing good to date. However if you read the comments here, some have bought the OEM pump for 400 bucks just for the problem to come back a handful of hours later. I'm actually doing a 21 kx250f this week with the same pump and same issue. All the all balls kits for this bike are now sold out. So I will be trying out a quantum kit for this bike, hopefully that one does as well as the all balls has been doing for these bikes. Kawi really needs to recall these though. As you know i prefer OEM pumps, but at 400 bucks and with the word being it can or will happen again, these kits seem to be a decent fix for the time being. Not the best way to fix it but for now the only way (that seems to stand the test of time)

Compared to sport bikes or other motorcycles, there aren't a whole lot videos for dirt bikes. Also appreciate the response, it helps tremendously

It could be. When its cold and able to start, remove the gas cap and hit the start button super fast, not long enough to start but long enough to cycle on the fuel pump. Stick your ear up to the gas cap opening and get familiar with how the fuel pump sounds. Then ride the bike on flat ground where it's safe when it dies. As soon as it dies remove the gas cap again and hit the start button super fast again, not enough to start just enough to cycle the fuel pump and listen inside the tank again. If you don't hear the pump then yes it could be your pump giving up when it gets hot. Maybe start there

@@UpAllNight91 thanks for the reply man! So I can hear the fuel pump without the gas cap, but still doesn’t want to start. There is spark and the battery is full. I haven’t done the riding and then listening but will give it a go. The problem is very intermittent, it happens and then it doesn’t happen. Could it possibly be water in the fuel? I haven’t drained the tank yet. I’m stripping everything today again to see if I can find something. I’ve read quite abit about the MAP sensor failing because of water or oil getting in there. I do spray the motor with yamashield or WD40 after every ride as I live close to the ocean and want to prevent corrosion.

@@kyleallen146 yeah the map sensor can surely cause issues. I once diagnosed one that had a bad map sensor, that was a tough one to figure out because on the scanner it was reading ok but after the bike was started it would act up. If you think its a map sensor maybe try a good used sensor off ebay just for testing.
