Very helpful video! I had a question about grafting timing. I missed the spring grafting season because I got the Coronavirus. The rootstocks I ordered, which arrived in March, have leafed out in pots, and the dormant scionwood I collected in February is in the fridge. I was wondering if I could still do whip and tongue grafting if I cut off the tops of the leafed rootstocks now, and brought them in my cools basement to recover? Would it be better to do grafting done in summer like Chip budding, since it's now July?

I assume your scionwood has been in the fridge for 5 full months...too long and it has probably sprouted out in the fridge. But if you can find some dormant buds, personally I would chip bud them onto the rootstock as it is July, and they should leaf out this summer. See the chip budding video.

Thank you for showing this. I always wanted to try grafting and I find your video very informative as well as easy to follow (run on sentence). I brought the fancy grafting tool but didn't have any success. I live in BC, zone 8a, and wanting to graft plum, what time of the year would you recommend me doing it? If you can answer me I will really appreciate it. Thank you in advance :)

JZ you live in the banana belt for sure, zone 8A! In Edmonton we graft starting the last week in April and all through May. Where you are, the best would be "green tip" or when the leaves are just starting to push green out of the buds. I'd guess around April 1, but you will have to check your trees and by observation know when "green tip" is.

@@Veritas-dn6ss thank you for answering my questions. I searched a lot websites but never find a definitive answer. Now I feel a bit more confident. :) I wonder if it's also possible to try it now (early September) ? I read somewhere it is possible to do some types of grafting in fall. Is it more difficult? I want to try it now, so in case it failed I will have another chance in the spring instead of waiting another year. What do you recommend? Thank you again :)

@@jz6532 No, spring only. You could "chip bud" now, but not the other kinds of grafts which are done in spring. See the video on Chip Budding if you want to try that now. Good luck!

@@Veritas-dn6ss thank you so much. I will give it a try. Hopefully I will have success this year. :)
