It's like a class of six year old's! This man is a legend! The most patient teacher I have ever seen! I have learned so much in just ten minutes, forever grateful!
Many thanks ~ highly informative. One of my great interests has been perfume-making for five years now, always enjoy learning more: there's so much to know and understand. Unfortunately the European Union BANNED oak moss in fragrances 5 years ago, affecting many leading perfumes made in EU countries such as the UK and France.
Thanxxxxxxxxx a lot !!! I wasn't able to find information in Turkish language about my new job, and I was checking in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French languages. This iş the most useful öne. Thank you very very much that you make my dream become true 💞💕💞
This was fantastic thank you. I am studying perfumery at the moment. I found myself shouting out answers at my computer haha. The whole herbal/green/phenol this still confuses me but I'll get there eventually.
+ouch110 Fragrance Reviews I have found your channel few days ago. and i'm soooooo dying to ask you about your perfumery art school. I would love to do it as well.
Very GOOD and informative and helpful video, thank you so much for your kind excellent way of explaining and I know making perfume is not an easy way you need to have patience and dedication, thanks again..
Thank you very much , your video is very useful . I have a question , If we would like to get a strong smell out of clothes after washing ,what is chemical raw material for adding to get a strong smell when we make liquid detergent ?
I am maybe a poor teacher but let me assure you that the all students (all except 1😀)were great in this workshop and have gone on to do amazing things in perfumery all over the world, and still are. - Steve
Is metallic really only under linalool? For instance garlic, onion, fish scales has a metallic charcter (which will go under E). Geranium has a sharp green metallic note (R). Rose oxide? Chemicals with oxide in the name seems to be metallic? Some aldyhydes and green notes have metallic character aswell. Rubber is a hard one. Probably like a combination.
Ryan says I look more like Alistair Crowley so I'll definitely take that as a compliment. I really liked Alan Rickman as an actor in the parts he played, thanks😁
Sorry about the sound. This was a live Workshop and the cameras came along for the ride but I wouldn't let them put microphones on the tables for fear of privacy issues.
They were a great bunch, it was the first day warming up. It is a workshop, I was the lead teacher in the class, but am not a headmaster. Ultimately they are talking so they can get the most out of the class, everybody needs something different. It was an amazing workshop and everybody (except 1 😃) went on to do amazing things in perfumery and still are- Steve
Hi Dan, I agree with you. I think a comment came out in the class and someone noted there was a rubbery character too. I can sort of see it a bit I always listen to others ideas as it helps to get different perspectives - helps when trying to communicate with odours. Steve PS I appreciate the comments it shows someone actually gets it - thank you
Narcissus and narcotic don't share a commony etymological root. The former is a name and the latter comes from the Greek narkotikon, meaning "to make stiff or numb." Just because they both begin with "narc" doesn't mean they're related to one another.
Is there a rock that smells like musk? I have one and dont know how that's possible. It isnt civet or deer musk oil because even when I've wiped the rock down it still smells like musk.
How do you give compassion for the teacher? He should have had an outlined presentation rather than talking off the top of his head. The students are not a fault in this situation.
The students are in their first day of a 15 day Workshop 10am-6pm (120 hours). After which most will have what they need to be able to create perfumes to a professional level. This has all of the content of a 1 year course that I developed for a MSc university course. So the syllabus is intense and most will naturally turn off their attention after 20-45 mins. We tried many approaches until we found that a seemingly randomly structured approach kept peoples attention, engaged and really importantly allowed them to clear blocks in understanding without requiring rote memorizing of lists. I recall when I was a student questions were discouraged and when I would meet a block I wouldn't be able progress for the rest of the lecture. Also I don't find myself repeating stuff workshop after workshop as if I do I get bored and turn off myself.
Define Fresh Tobacco leaf, Cured Tobacco leaf, Cigarette Tobacco, Cigar Tobacco, Golden Virginia etc. is it being smoked. I would start with Herb for the fresh leaf but T-Tar/Smoke for the cured leaf and then other groups for the detail. V (esp. coumarin) for cigarettes, S (esp. clove) for Indonesian Kreteks W (esp. iso E Super) for Golden Virginia Q(esp. Tolu Balsam for Cigars etc. Leather notes (U) will definitely help.
I would be a headache to any lecturer🤣 I'd not agree that leather is in the urine/feces category. To my nose leather is phenolic (birch tar), and iris (orris root).
Describe the smell. My memory of it as I sit in Bangkok is dry dusty slightly nutty. Based on that I would tend to put it in Edible(E) with woody(W), earthy(Y) notes.
Which aspect are you linking to the rain? If its the water B-iceberg. If its the after-rain smell Y-mossy yeast. If its a combination then H- Herb. And if you want some of the dankness then O and gives you warm rain drops. So to make a great Rain Accord Make a combination of BOYH. (Traces Green or Muguet notes may help here)
It would have been more effective for the group if he would have explained each category of the alphabet then allowed the group to place smells rather than pick a smell like gunpowder then go to letter E and write edible group stating you’ll find sulfa (gp) smells in the edible group. I would be disappointed if this guy is actually a teacher of a perfume school. No doubt he was a student but he is not a teacher.
Many methods were tried for this process including the method you propose. This method proved to have some advantages in terms of longer term memory without students having to study a list.
Depends what crystals they are. Describe the smell you perceive. What is the dominant note. A diamond for me is the purest natural Menthol (i.e no Peppermint odour) with a trace of Bulgarian Rose Otto. So B+R.

This is so annoying. Everyone is talking and it seems nobody is paying attention. Everyone be quiet and they guys need stop talking to the tables and let the speaker move on. Tell them to shut up!
thats because alot of people come to the classes just cause they bored and have money to spend. others to take it serious and learn this wonderful art of perfumery ;)
