A model showcase video for this 1980's vintage Academy Minicraft M48A3 Patton tank model. In this video I review the kit, comparing it to the Tamiya 1/35th scale counterpart. In this video I also go over the build and point out areas on this model to look out for along how to upgrade the detailing. In addition to that I also describe the work that went into motorize converting the model along with taking it out for a test drive

Afv club have similar to that older box art on there m60a1 that colourful box art in nam! Adv club share alit of Academy's moulds too they just seem to go to town on them adding sometimes to much detailed parts that don't have to be!

AFV club did share a lot of molds with academy back in the 90's when the company was first getting off the ground, but since the late 90's or the 2000s that's no longer the case. All AFV club tooling on kits from that era are all 100% AFV OEM tooling

Glad I could help. What tank did you want to do the conversion to? Some are easier than others. Others may be impossible

@@oddball759mm jagdtiger 1/16 trumpeter. but I think I am going to use a taigen motor and board.

@history view for 1/16 you can't use the system I used here, it's way too small / underpowered for a model of that size and weight. The best way to do it is like you said with the taigen gearboxes

Im planning to motorized the tamiya m113, do you think that it would be easy?
@oddball759mm
@oddball759mm 3 года назад
possible yes, easy no. The M113 issue is that the hull is very narrow and the front area is very restricted. off the shelf gearboxes will have difficulty fitting. Tamiya themselves did have the model motorized and used their own gearbox, academy also made their M113 (tamiya clone) model motorized and with a 2 way remote so it is doable. You can track the academy motorized ones down with not too much difficulty, however another way to do it is if you have access to a 3D printer you can design your own gearbox that fits in the front hull section. I'm doing this now with a vintage tamiya Stug 3 that I'm motorizing and it has the same issue as the M113

What is the easiest tank model kit to be motorized with tamiya twin gearbox? I am planning to build the tank RC.
