Here I analyse the technique of a UK based triathlete competing in Olympic distance triathlon. He's brought his threshold pace down from 1:40-1:45/100m to 1:33 in the last year.
There are two things I'd focus on most if I were him:
1. Breathing: Exhale form the nose and get the head returning back into the water quicker.
2. Rotation: Reduce the upper body rotation to maintain better balance and improve his catch (and stroke rate!)

how do you get the correct rotation? I've under rotated for a long time and got severe lowerback/hip issues, then i over rotated (now) and tryning to correct that again, i find myself under rotating again -_-

Love the videos...you recommend exhaling thorough the nose I guess you recommend inhale through the mouth or both nose and mouth if possible? Thanks.

Learning stuff from every video here 👍🏻 School me if thick please, but why would a 100m be a smart way of tracking progress with 1.5K distance as goal. Surely that’s sprinting vs threshold and not a very good indicator for an endurance athlete.

That’s his threshold pace per 100m which translates to 1:33/100m for 1500m.

Effortless Swimming I see. It’s his PR pace for the full distance, not 1x 100m max speed in the pool.

Correct. Or CSS pace (which we call threshold pace)

The gasping and long inhale could also be linked to a sharp angle in the neck, which leaves less air through the pipe when turning the head. Proud posture with a neck as straigth as possible and only one google outside the water might do the trick. But than this also depends on the natural curbature of the spin. I suppose that due to mobile phone use, this must be a common problem for more and more people. @Brandon: Is it possible to work on the natural angle of the neck and straigthen it over time without having the windpipe blocked?

Thank you so much for the analysis. Any recommendations as for drills to reduce rotation? You recommendation for breathing is invaluable, so simple and makes a ton of difference.

Listening to your advice about nasal exhalation: I've tried several times to breathe properly, but every time I try swimming without a nose clip I get congestion for a couple of days after the swim (pool, lake or sea, doesn't matter). Do you have any pointers on how to prevent / deal with the congestion without using a clip?

I think you need to have a subtle exhale from the nose as soon as the nose get in the water to prevent any water from coming in. Then fully exhale while turning to breathe. That's what I do and no water comes in the nose. Like always keep positive pressure.
