Hello, congratulations on the good work with the model, although there is only one problem and that is that the a4q skyhawk aircraft did not have a mk 17 bomb in its belly, but they had 3 mk 82 Snakeye bombs (all of English manufacture) With them they could bomb and escape before the bomb exploded after penetrating the ship's hull in the Falklands conflict, but otherwise excellent work. Thanks for that, Lucho. I understand that the bomb is not correct but unfortunately, the kit didn't include the Mk.82's and I did want to add a little something, even if not completely accurate :) Just don't tell anyone...haha.

Nice build but a little over kill on painting. can get same effect without all the extra painting. But to each his own . Model looks great. Airfix has very good plastic molding, very little flashing and good detailing. I did the P51D and it was a great build good product by Airfix. I enjoy your video I have the A-4 Skyhawk and going to build it soon just checking it out on youtube before I jump into it.

Thanks! Appreciate the feedback, input, and opinions. They beauty of modeling is that everyone can do it the way the want and not be wrong, at least in my opinion. The Airfix kits are really nice indeed. I did video builds for their 1/72 P-51 and 1/72 Wildcat as well. They all have been really nice. I have a few more to do in the future. Nice!... I have 1/72 Hasegawa A4E!/F Skyhawk.... our RNZAF operated Skyhawks and a friend of mine was Tactical Radar Operator on HMS Invincible during the Falklands War he didn't know if he was going to live or die!.. cheers from down under 👍✈️🇳🇿

Great video. Getting back into modelling after decades break. How do you paint the black area on the nose in front of the cockpit so accurately? I'm concerned I'll make a mess of it.

Thanks for the kind feedback. I use Tamiya tape to mask off the anti-glare panel and then carefully airbrush light coats of black. Hope this helps.

Tires with the flat bottoms are from the kit, or bought separately, or you made them?

I just made them by placing the model, once built, on a hot flat top with a sheet of aluminum foil between them. I left it a little too long as they are a little to flat for me. Just have to make sure you don't take your eye off it while putting it on the stovetop :)

That's an IA.58 Pucara. This one was from the all resin Aconcagua kit before Kinetic released their injection molded version.

Gee that’s good Chad. Thanks once again for sharing your techniques. I’m still hand painting my models. Even though my wife bought me an airbrush for Xmas, I’m still a little nervous to use it. I’m afraid of ruining my model.

Beautiful model Sir! Very nicely done video as well. If don't mind I have one question: You used white spirits for the oils - are white spirit oderless turpentine or ethanol (like fire starter liquid) in your case? Here in Germany bottles labled "white spirit" (lables are often multilinqual) are often distilled spirits - making a mess out the painted layers ; )

Thank you! The White Spirits I use is an artist grade diluent specifically for thinning oil paints. Several companies sell it but here's what I currently use: amzn.to/2TSmSV6

Any particular reason why you put decals on after weathering?

I weather in stages. The first set is just oils over the flat coat to give the paint more depth. I then apply the gloss coat, add the decals, and then weather some more with the typical panel line washes and such.

@Cmndr Roy Fokker Funny you should mention that. I'm actually almost done with a Bandai Gundam kit. My first one. One of the subscribers here actually asked about me making a video showing how to paint and weather one so I figured I'd try. Some pretty cool engineering in those kits.

I saw the blue angels fly many times back in the A-4 days. That little jet is so maneuverable. You did a great job on this kit...I'm still blown away at how good things look for such a small scale.

That was my first recollection of the Blue Angels as well (although I think my folks took me when I was really young to see them flying F-4's). I think I'd like to do another A-4 in the future, this time in US livery. Maybe a larger scale too but the Airfix kit is really quite nice. Thanks for the good feedback, David.

Thank you for taking the time to share your techniques. You are a fine modeler and I can only hope to imitate your outstanding weathering. Do you find that painting the oils over the acrylic paints before gloss coating still allows you the ability to clean up any mistakes on the oil application? I always find it hard to get the oils up after I put them on the paint.

Nope, didn't miss it. I apply them directly over a coat of white spirits put down on top of the flat acrylic paint.

A beautiful kit, expertly built and painted. I remember the Falkland war. These planes were pretty outdated by that time. I don’t remember them looking this good in real life.

The Argentine A-4's may have been a little outdated, but they were flown by excellent (and very brave) pilots, I know, I was on the receiving end of their bombing runs. On ship (Landing Ship Logistic (LSL Sir Geraint)) and on land (Red Beach, Ajax Bay). On May 27th 1982, 4 Skyhawks from Grupo 5 attacked us at Ajax Bay, some of the bombs dropped set off ammunition pallets that exploded for 4 hours. When everything had calmed down, British casualties were 6 dead and 26 wounded (almost all were Commando Logistic Regiment, Royal Marines). Scariest day (and there were quite a few contenders) of my young life. The whole of San Carlos Water was known as "Bomb Alley" because of their air attacks. I am thinking of getting the Airfix model kit and building one, good tutorial.

@@markboardman141 Hey Mark, Thanks for the feedback. There are lots of nice airbrushes and compressors out there. I've been using a Badger Velocity airbrush with an Iwata Compressor for a while. I also had good luck with the Tamiya Super Fine HG airbrush but getting replacement parts was more challenging. Here are some links to amazon that show the ones I'm using. Thanks! I don't before the oil weathering effects that I use the white spirits base for but for the panel line washes, the model was glossed (base for decals as well). I usually come back over and spray a little gloss over the decals before I add the panel line wash. I didn't on this build. Don't tell anyone ;)
