1.9L TDI Swapped Toyota Ride Along, Daily Driving with a GTC2262 Mini Semi Turbo 36 PSI Boost

After initial testing a boost spike of 42-44 PSI bend 2 rods in the original engine, and after finding an unrelated crack in the block it was time for a whole different engine to go in. After getting the new setup dialed in I wanted to give an overview of what a big turbo feels like as a single on a mostly stock ALH engine. These newer technology turbos can be spooled up like stock even on a little 1.9L TDI.

Ya I was blowing gaskets at 24 PSI boost haha. There is always a chance for head surface damage with blown gaskets so it's probably recommended.

What gear ratio in the axles on your truck? Im looking to do a tdi swap in my ranger. Stock axles in my ranger are 4.10s
@TDISwaps
@TDISwaps Год назад
The Toyota also has 4.10s, with the factory transmission OD I am about 3000 RPM at 80 MPH on 33" tires, works pretty perfect for my mountainous location, I've been consistently 28-32 MPG at that speed

@TDISwaps
@TDISwaps Год назад
Well I mean with a 91 Toyota I always have a toolbox full of tools for the rest of the truck LOL usually I can handle anything at that point. I've done about an 8 hour round trip with it that's the longest but I really don't have issues much to make me fearful of a longer trip.

@@TDISwaps Im just curious. I have a 51 Ford PU with a 5.0 v8, 3 Spd auto going through a 2.50 final drive. The engine and trans are getting tired so the TDI swap looks interesting. And very different.

Overall how difficult was this swap? What'd you have to modify for fitment? Thanks I have a 1984 2wd 22r im thinking of swapping either a tdi or an om617 in. Thanks
@TDISwaps
@TDISwaps Год назад
Well the 91 body style gave a lot more engine room for the V6 making the TDI fit in pretty nicely. I've heard that the 84 is a little bit more work clearancing things or just deleting parts off the engine so there's room. I wouldn't even dream of trying to fit in om617 in there without a 6-in lift or something. The solid axle does help though as long as you're lifted. Almost all the hoses and accessories crossed over very nicely. There wasn't much extra parts to buy if you are okay with reusing hoses and stuff. And I've gotten very good at the wiring aspect so I'm selling those to help people out. Overall it's much easier than a lot of things you could swap as far as I can see.

So I’m putting an AZZ model into a ford ranger. I have the wiring harness from the ranger going through the ECU and then into the gauge cluster. To make the tack work on the stock gauge cluster would I have to get an adapter to go from ford to VW or would it work like the stock ranger motor? Thanks!
@TDISwaps
@TDISwaps Год назад
What year of ranger? There should be a tach wire from the VW ECU but I've never actually used it on a swap so I'm not sure what would need adapted to send something to the ranger ECU. My jeep tach got it's signal from the crank sensor so I left that hooked up to the transmission
@bransonhutchinson
@bransonhutchinson Год назад
@@TDISwaps so there isn’t an ecu with the AZZ it’s all mechanical so I didn’t have to do a stand alone harness. But the ranger is an 2003

My bad, you would either need a W wire off the alternator, or use a diesel tach adapter from autometer. But I'm still not sure what the ranger ECU is looking for

@@foxriding753 Everything is Toyota as far as air conditioning up to the VW compressor and chucks of the VW hoses. If you lower the boost pressure a little does smoke appear? Why do I ask, if there is no smoke, then you can slightly reduce the boost pressure. the geometry is more open, it is easier for the engine to eject exhaust gases. Sorry for the English, Google translate)

@user-mo5wu9hl9e I am sending full fuel on 260 nozzles, it definitely starts to smoke under about 2.2-2.4 bar, but more than that EGTs go even higher
