Not many screw machine shops left. All went to china. It used to be a "skilled trade" but not anymore.

@@Poopdogsays, Agreed, but I do know of a few around Cincinnati. A couple of them are pretty big companies too.

I set up and ran those things for 29 and 1/2 years and don't miss them at all. 9/16, 1 in., 1 1/4 six spindle, and eight spindle, 2 inch eight spindle, 2 5/8 six and eight spindle and one 3 1/2 six spindle. Thread rolls, recess attachments, knurl attachments, broaches, die heads. All kinds of cutting tools. Worked 50 hour week most of those years. Left there and went to a shop with just lathes and milling machines. Now I'm retired. No telling how many tons of metal i've cut.

What's the maximum accuracy achievable in these machines?
@Poopdogsays
@Poopdogsays 5 месяцев назад
@pranavverma16 +/- .00025 if the machine is tihht and in good working order. But .0005 is more likely.

Yeah nobody wants to run these old machines anymore. We have 52 machines and only 20 guys to run them between 2 shifts. Whereas we have 10 cnc's and 35 guys that run those. Lol.
