Welcome back to Reserved Investments. In this video, we discuss a news story, where Target Stores plan to stop carrying the Star Wars Vintage Collection toy line. Younger children are just not gravitating towards toys and most of these modern classic reissues end up in the clearance isles anyway if adult fans don't want them...
Here is a link to the article from the Jedi Temple Archives that discusses this in greater detail: www.jeditemple...

I had a brush with greatness. I ran into Shawn at the local post office. It was cool to actually meet you in person. I love your advice. I would have loved to get into a discussion, but I was already aggravating the postal workers with my large load of drop offs. 😂 Thanks for saying hi.

I have that same feeling at the post office to! The more business I try to give them, the more I can see them get angry! Lol.

@@TheOddOddish yeah, I’m gonna have to hit up a few different post offices for drop offs. Either I’ll run into different workers, or just aggravate every postal employee in the area.

The quality of the toys is trash for the price so the adults who would buy them don't want them and the kids aren't excited about Star Wars.

Well it's not helping that a lot of the current Star Wars shows, movies and video games have not been as well received.

Sad to see that this generation won't know what it was like to walk into a Toys R Us, with perpetual stacks of our favorite toys neatly arranged to the ceiling, with each aisle dedicated to one or few toylines. Remember that Xmas goeffrey theme that played during the holidays😢

But they will know what it’s like to see heavily discounted trash characters they can’t give away like I did growing up and watching it happen to jar jar 😏😂👌

I remember many Star Wars and GI Joe collectors getting super excited last year when so many toys where showing up at Ross and Ollie's at deep clearance prices. I took advantage of some of these sales myself, but I knew that it was a bad omen about the future of the toy industry. Now collectors are a bit spoiled and saying stuff like, "All of these new figure look awesome, but I'm not paying full price for them. I'll wait until they show up at Ollie's or Ross," totally oblivious to the fact that that's the best way to guarantee all of these toy lines get cancelled.

Seems to be a trend when you try to consistently try to turn NEW products into 'collectibles' and then price accordingly. My youngest (now 13) still loves action figures. Even though I was never really a collector of them so he didn't get the exposure through MY collecting habits. However the design quality is trash for new items. Who needs to build in points of articulation if you're going to aim a product at a collector who will never open it? Children still have imaginations and still like to 'pretend' play.. even in this era of digital entertainment, however you have to build products,... GOOD products for them AND price them at a reasonable price point. What is out there now, arguably is not.

It's insane how poor the quality is now. I used to sell the old school Pokémon figures, they were really well made and solid. Nowadays they are complete and utter tat.

Disney literally killed a golden goose. I don’t collect action figures but kept up with Lego and Lego Star Wars was the only theme I payed attention to as I got older but Disney ruined the IP beyond belief to the point where I’m looking more at Lego city and other themes that I always thought were lame.

There wasn't much money around for toys when I was a kid in the 60's. By the time the Star wars figures came out in the late 70's I had grown out of 'kids stuff' and was quite into Games Workshop at the time ( though it wasn't an I.P back then just a few shops that sold D&D and third party miniatures). So having not had this stuff as a kid is exactly the attraction it now hold for me.

I have many friends who are teachers and they tell me what you describe is a symptom of lazy minds. Technology is replacing, for many children, a need to exercise an imagination. This is sad but in many ways empirically demonstrated in what children want as toys. It is also evident in that there is a steep decline in many science degree programs enrollment. Kids who are mentally lazy, want nothing to due with mentally strenuous degree majors.

Our local target and Walmart have had a really hard time moving toys. The same stuff has been there for years, and with the occasional case of newer toys, but it’s very occasional.

I love my two rooms full of 80s toys but I know it won't be worth the six figures I paid for it when I die.

Weird how some of the vintage toys have made a comeback. Like the old MadBalls are really popular. Not even sure if they make them anymore. 🤔

You can make that same argument about antiques. Especially today with history pretty much disappearing. I don't see future generations interested in antiques. I actually think it's going to cycle into popularity. A lot of new movies coming out like Thundercats, or GIJoe with Transformers in the same movie. Some Star Wars movies are coming out. This will help

Depends on the antique. The definition of an antique is simply an item that is 100 years of age or more. It does not denote value, rarity, or desirability.
@lerak8452

@ReservedInvestments I'm speaking in general. For example, there will be fewer people interested in historical documents or even a first edition book. You know it's bad when this generation doesn't even want to drive or date in school.

Hey Shawn I know this ish a Q&A but just curious what is your rarest (not necessarily most valuable ) video Game and trading card?
@jaybjorklund7338

Hey Shawn, of the toy categories potentially dying out in the next 10 /15 years (masters of the universe, mego, gi joe) do you think prices will continue to climb, stay the same, or decline over that same period. I didn't know if past categories you talk about (trains, Pyrex etc) provide a blueprint for what to expect.

I think you have a decade or more for most 80's and 90's toy lines at least. Some will fair better than others. Vintage Star Wars currently has the edge.

Disney put the last nail in the coffin for Star Wars buddy. My kids play with all my vintage toys especially Star Wars, GI Joe and MOTU but I have no interest in buying the new toys if they are Woke. Why support Woke? Also parents use screen time devices as a babysitter bad parenting in my opinion.
