I use a thumbbutton and everything my pin is in the x ring I pull with my back muscle. As soon as it leaves the x ring I’ll stop adding pressure. Good luck with your archery!
@kaelangerhardt5651

@@bullseyejim5764 stopping your shot process is one of the worst things that you can do. all you have to do is slowly pull through your shot no matter where you are aiming. if you stop putting pressure because you think you are going to miss the middle, then that can lead to target panic, and that is NO fun.

Hey Chris, I'm 48 years old, I've been bow hunting since I was 15. I've been shooting a trigger style release my whole life. About two and a half years ago, I noticed my groups continually got bigger and bigger. I primarily attested that it was my age, eye-sight, and just lack of practice. I begin to accept as it just being okay, slowly showed itself as a mild case of target panic. And the more I thought about it, the worse I got. This past season I decided to switch and try a thumb release. I opted for the True-ball fang. It has definitely been a game changer. But I still am not 100% confident. A good video on converting from a trigger to a thumb or hinge style, and what to do with your bow set up, and changing the way you shoot?

Hey Chad, check out John Dudleys channel, nock on archery. He's got some super, to the point with minimal rambling, videos about the release questions, and he covers them all well. I personally had some issues switching TO a thumb release from a wrist strap. At the end of the day, if you can break down your shot cycle into segments, and make sure you are repeating them as consistently as you can, you should tighten your groups up no problem. It's all fundamental, keep it simple. And film yourself in your shot cycle and pay attention to any variances you notice, and try and tighten them up. I hope this helps!

I destroyed my right shoulder two years ago and had it rebuilt last year...then at 44 picked up a compound bow for the first time. Every month I am adjusting and changing something...even just going up in weight. Little tips like this are an awesome thing to keep an eye on no matter how old or how much experience you have. Gotta take care of your body or you fall apart

I have shot for years and thinking back, I had many bows where my draw length was close enough. This year I have been tinkering with my VXR 31.5 because I just couldn’t shoot it as well as my Vertix. I bought the next shorter mods, twisted strings/cables to spec, and added a high wrist grip and “Walla.” I find my anchor immediately and my groups have tightened.

As you have said before. If it’s just off by a 1/4” you can always adjust the D-Loop or even put some twists in the strings. This can help fine tune your bow. Of course I learned a lot of these tricks by watching these type of videos. Lol. It’s crazy to think how much you can learn by watching these videos. I’m 42 so when I was young we didn’t have this so it’s awesome to be able to find whatever you want on line nowadays. Just make sure it’s the right type of advice because there is a lot of wrong stuff circulating online these days.

Posture alignment has been a core of my coaching philosophy in recurve. I noticed the different techniques adopted in compound and always confused me, but didn't pursue learning more as it took away from my understanding. I've recently found more coaching like this and via John Dudley, that gives me confidence in coaching compound now. The main reason I'm looking is to migrate to compound due to age and stamina in holding. I've been trying to understand what difference there would be in my drawlength if any, as I have a 31 1/8 " recurve arrow length and don't want to purchase the wrong bow for me

Even if it is nothing new, it is good stuff. Keep it coming. Sometimes you can watch a bunch of videos on a topic and the information sounds repetitive and you think you already know it until somebody presents it in a way that just clicks and you realize you didn't really know it before because now that you do know it, you can see how bad what you were doing before was. I just had that happen twice with two Paige Pierce videos. One on setting up stabilizers and one on proper back tension. Both of them made me say "hmm I think I understand what you are putting down and now I feel the need to try a few things." Guess what, they worked. I can tell when I am shooting with my finger tripping the release and when I am shooting properly. Right about now I feel like I want to try a half inch up and down in draw length to see if I am shooting the correct draw.

I ordered a new camera & 1 of the topics I want to cover 1st is the correlation between the right draw length & the right anchor point. The video will focus on great shooting form & repeatability shot after shot. I have 2 bows that with Covid it took 15 months to get to the point of the draw cycle & anchor point being identical. Both bows are made by the same manufacturer. The 2 differences are that the new 1 has a draw length that u can change w/o a press. The older bow has a dedicated draw length & for over a year I haven't been able to swap the right cams out for it. I made things work to the point that I can shoot both bows equally well even though the newer bow has some added value in performance. A video which would be short would break it down much better than words. I will dm it to u when I finish it. This could give many people with this issue ideas 💡& help even more that face the dilemmas that weren't around b4 Covid. Yes, I just hit the big red button & liked your post.

I am 5'8" and shoot 29" with a short D loop. Measuring always pegs me at 28.5". I have been called out many times for claiming a 29" draw. I have been this way since I was 15 and am 41 now. I broke my collar bone at 13. When it healed it pushed my left shoulder down and more than an inch further out than my right shoulder. If I try to shoot anything less than 29" I get severe pain in my left shoulder.

I’d love for you to critique my shooting form honestly… I struggle with target panic/flinching , I have a hard time keeping the pin in the bullseye , and when I get it there , I almost always slap the trigger, I went from the traditional release to a thumb button , and it helped some, but not Enough. Every now and then when I’m aiming my string will also take off for no reason, putting a lot of unexpected strain on my shoulder, I can shoot good when I’m under pressure or with other people , but on my own, for some reason, I struggle with these issues

As a traditional shooter (because not many people in Germany shoot Compound (Bowhunting is illegal, so we have no community)) i know how important a constant and right draw length is. Its the most important thing to be consistent and accurate. Except the right arrow maybe, which is more important in Recurve. But my problem is.....i have a very long draw length. Im 1.95 meter tall and set it at recurve with 31.5 inch, maybe 32 inch. Most beginner Bows in compound cant handle this, and i dont spend 1k to test. We also dont have the wide range of compound to buy here. The cheapest one ist the Bowtech specialist for Target archery. He comes around 850 Euro (930 Dollars roundabout) which is to expensive for a beginner. The cheapest hunting bow is the Bear Species LD....and i said it....noone shoots hunting bows here, because hunting is only allowed with Rifles or Shotguns, and most people cant afford this hobby, so hunting is mostly for dentists, lawyers or other rich people (we dont have much hunting ground, and the exam and school for the license comes about 15k euro plus yearly costs of about 10k. Weapons and storage, weapons license not inlcuded, comes also 20k Euro and yearly costs of 10k. Yeah....our weapon laws are very strict here, its even not allowed to have one handed opener knives ^^) I own a cheap bear cruzer with 30 inch draw lengt and i dont have the feeling of backtension which i have with my recurves. The aiming pattern is calm, no hopping or surfing, but i cant see the whole of the sight, especially the level at the bottom trough my peep. I tried it with a wrist and a thumb release but i think its too short. We dont have pro shops here which are specialists for compound. Only Recurve, Recurve, Recurve and Traditional. Most dealers have about 1 or 2 cheap china compounds and try to sell you a expensive Bodnik Bow instead, because "Compound needs no skill" ^^ My Question is: "How i get a greencard, im done with german archery :D. Im useful. I swear. Im a male nurse :D" Joke. But i have one real question: When i see american compound ecurve shooters, i only see white people. Never a black or latino. Sometimes Asian. Is bowhunting and compound shooting a hobby for white people? I dont want to play the political correctness acial\snowflake\cancel culture card or discussion here, im really interested in this. In germany you also have 99% white people who shoot.

Hey Chris, I've been watching all your videos. I've been shooting a bow for over 20 years. The old man who taught me how to shoot was unconventional in his teaching methods. for about 2 years, we shot virtually every day countless arrows. I actually got pretty good, and then my family ended up moving away. I continued to practice for a few years and then stopped until my kids were old enough. I taught them the basics, but they never took to archery like I did. now they are grown living their lives. I decided about a year ago to try competition archery. I actually have my 1st 3d event tomorrow. I was wondering if you could make some videos to help someone like me thats never competed before a guide to being successful. possibly working up to competing with archers like yourself at some point. some ASA step by step along with indoor/outdoor USA/NAA archery. just about any guid someone can follow would be great. thanks

I don't see archers drawing or loading their bow with the arrow in a down position. I do, i point it under the target when drawing back. I'm concerned there could be a failure of D loop or the release and if arrow is pointed high it could accidentally be released. Is loading bow low a bad habit ?

I've become pretty uncomfortable shooting my bow recently as far as it feeling unnatural at full draw. I've noticed I don't hold as steady with my bow arm and my head has to lean in pretty drastically to see into my peep sight. Would this be an indication of too long of draw length or string stretching? This is a new bow as of last year, Mathews VXR 28.

I’ve been looking for a video like this for a long time that actually gives me an answer as to why my left shoulder creeps up. I’m 6’3” with a very long draw. I got my triax(28 ATA) when I was younger with 29.5 inch draw so I know I need to extend it and get the extra mod. I wasn’t sure why my shoulder was doing that but now I know. Thank you Chris!! It probably doesn’t help that my neck is long too so I have to tilt it a lot with the steep draw angle. I think I should get a 31VXR or 31 v3. What do you think?

Both are awesome! Sounds like you are a big guy though so don't discount the Atlas.
