Any videos on drills for youth kids (age 8-9) to help with accuracy? Some of my kids throw very fast but lack accuracy which results in a lot of walks. Thank you love the videos.
Steve Rochin I would suggest Proper Mechanics overall and talk to the kids about not trying to strike the kids out but rather make them think they want the batter to hit the ball. A lot of youngsters think it's their job to strike every batter out and throw as hard as they can. It's almost the opposite, I think their is a quote out there from sandy saying he became a better pitcher when he stopped trying to make them miss, but rather tried to make them hit it. Take a little off the heat and work on getting the ball to the plate low in the strike zone. At this age it will result in a lot more strike outs.
+Cooper Nelson I've been making some infield drill videos that will help. The best advice I can give is reps, reps, reps. You have to practice. Just like anything else. Confidence comes from success. The more you practice and the more you develop good habits, the more confident and better you'll be.
Like the drill. I just started coaching 8 y.o LL recently and either their hips/arms are all over the place or they're throwing puffballs to 1st base. This should help with the power. I just have to build a funny thing in after the fence drill to keep them interested. We definitely have some ADD on the team :-
I just started coaching 10U as well, and cant believe theres not a 2 hr time limit on games considering their attention spans. Youre stripping their love for the game
mrrod67 Helps them get low and reduces arm drag. Promotes a longer stride, and balance of the lower body. The hips are key for accuracy and velocity. This drill helps out all of that.
This exact drill didn't work for my son. So I changed it to reaching his balance point and falling forward, towards the plate. He naturally catches himself and this helped throw much more accurately.
Simple, effective. Awesome. Kids need simplicity and physical actions like this to help it sink in. I find myself constantly slowing down the adults who want to cram 3 months of academic learning into a kids head in 30 seconds between plays.
my boy is 9 and got moved up with the 10-12 year olds but he lacks a long stride and doesn't get low. He probable only steps 30% of his height but Has a great arm. I'm gunna take him out later today and we're gunna do this drill, I bet it will fix his stride issues and make even more of a stud.
Coach Justin, My 8 year old son has been playing on a travel ball team over the last 7 months. Recently, he's complained of elbow pain. I notice that the spin on his ball is that of a slider and front to back rotation. If you could post a video or send a link to correct his throwing motion.
