The Guadacanal 1st Marine Division diamond patch, is older than any MC. It was 1st given to soldiers, who fought in the Battle of Guadalcanal during Operation Watchtower in 1942. My grandfather earned that patch, before any MC ever existed.

A first MarDiv patch is still very different from a 1% patch. No MC would press you over an earned military patch. Don't let civs scare you out of repping anything you've earned. Even if a club presses you, just explain what it is, and 99.9% of the time you're good.

My daddy served in Guadalcanal. He said that the beach water was so full of blood that you couldn't see your boots. He landed there on a second wave "Mike" boat. He was Army and never got any fancy patch. He said his unit ran out of ammunition and scrounged on their bellies from their fallen dead brothers for ammo. Although I am a direct descendant, out of the feeling that I have never endured something such as that, I don't feel that I should ever wear his patches. Not sure how to honor his work and valor. Of all the heros in my life, he did more that I can ever do for humanity in five. His first and only bike was an Indian.

By your words I'm assuming your dad has passed. My condolences. You can create a shadow box type memorial with his patches, ribbons, name tag and rank insignia neatly arranged around the flag given to you at his passing. If you didn't receive a flag talk to your local AmVets, VFW, DAV or other such organization. They'll present you with a flag in honor of his service. If your dad hasn't passed, I apologize for my misunderstanding. You can save all his memorabilia, and complete this project when he passes. Many thanks to your dad for his service.

Was riding through Nevada . Had on a vest repping a veterans organization I belong to . Also have many patches from my time in the navy. Yeah bro, we leave military vets/clubs alone. They are the only ones who are also allowed to rock a state rocker. I’ve checked a couple of guys with my state and all they have to say is “we are military” and I leave them alone. I myself am a vet so I get it. You come out and try to find a spot after service, and the last thing you want is some long haired face tatted biker checking you outside of a 7 eleven lol They actually have a separate hierarchy. We don’t mess with them at all other than if they mess with us or someone who is close to is.

I wear a lot of patches. I get a lot of questions about my Command Pilot Wings, the two stars on my shoulders, my "Strike Eagle", "Mudhen", and "CAS-500 Club" patches. A lot of unit patches on my jacket as well. I love explaining that I am a retired USAF Major General, I flew the F-15E Strike Eagle and flew over 500 Close Air Support missions and that the unit patches are where I am an 'honorary member' of these units for literally saving their asses in Iraq and Afghanistan. A lot of veterans in MC's and once the conversation starts, I have never paid for a drink in any club bar. I ride a Gold Wing, not a 'real' scooter and I ride with other retirees who are like me, retired fighter pilots. We ALL wear very similar patches. No fights ever started, a great deal of respect was traded, and a lot of stories were told by both sides. It's not all bad. These guys can spot a fake from a mile away because they've lived this life ALL their lives. Their clubs are very welcoming as long as you're 'real'.

@@benhardy5088 I understood your comment just fine and again I never said ask a 1%ER anything. People shouldn’t be making the mistake of buying patches off line and putting them on in the first place, but it still happens... In all honesty if your not apart of a club you probably shouldn’t even wear a cut to put inappropriate patches on anyway.. yet it still happens. Why because people don’t always know the protocol or they don’t care. Platforms like this are here to educate so people who don’t know can educate themselves before putting themselves in situations they probably don’t want to be in and that is what my comment was about. In my younger days I put a 3-piece on my back which was the upper rocker saying "Live to Ride", a large Mardi Gras skull in the middle, and a bottom rocker that said "Ride to Live", and a bunch of random patches all over. Was never in a club, used to ride with HOG but that was boring so now I just ride with friends or solo. Never had an issue with my vest, and was around a LOT of MC members. Had someone ask me once if I was worried about an MC taking my vest because of the 3-piece, I said no. Back in those days I would leave my house every day looking for a fight so it was all good 😂. Now that I'm older and wiser (maybe not wiser, definitely older), I haven't worn my vest in years. Now I just wear a leather jacket to absorb the road rocks kicked up by cars in front of me. I think that age has a lot to do with putting the wrong patches on. Young kids see SOA and Mayans MC and wanna be cool without knowing the risks. Older heads have seen more stuff in life and know better. Just my 2 cents, keep up the great videos. Videos like this can literally save lives 😉 #ghostin

Yet again my brotha, another fire video dropping knowledge to all the new people getting into motorcycles. My opinion, if your not affiliated or in a “diamond” group, then don’t wear anything diamond related. If your not in an mc or any other group, just a normal everyday civilian that likes to ride, don’t put any patches or any colors on that would draw attention to any club wether it be a 99 or a dominate. It gets confusing to all the newbies i know but do research and be respectful if you get pulled up on. I myself bought a Heathen nation shirt, not like the one you shown, it had Heathen at the top and nation on the bottom and in the middle it has the left facing skull similar to ha but it has an Indian headdress on, after i bought it i was like nah, better not rock this while riding, people may get the misconception and kick some stuff off lol. Keep up the great work my brotha. Much love and respect.

I pretty much 100% agree with all the information put out in this video and it's dangerously important for people to be informed of this stuff, except for one of the patches talked about. In my area the military patch would never get fu¢€ed with! Diamond shaped or not you just don't screw with veterans or active military about their patches, they earned and own that patch not an MC. I know different areas have different standards, but in my area if an MC member were to try to take that patch from a legit veteran it would be other MC members that would step in and beat down the one disrespectful member for screwing with a vet! Respect for the military and veterans is just too strong in my area plus most MC members here are veterans themselves. If the guy didn't actually earn the patch then it would be up to other veterans to decide what to do about it, not the MC. In a more liberal state or area that doesn't have proper respect and is not educated on it maybe they would screw with a vet over it, but I guarantold you they would have one hell of a hard time getting it off of him! For the most part it's a simple common sense issue. It's quite obvious that is a military patch and not an MC type of insignia and 99% of MC members would view it that way. If someone did try to say something it probably would be a very young newer member that is still trying to look tough and prove himself to the club. He probably would think that he's doing a good thing in the eyes of his brothers in the name of the club, but would quickly be corrected by the older members that have common sense.

Before I comment, I would like to thank you for the honor of putting me in your video. Since I have already given my opinion on patches, I would like to take this opportunity to say how things roll in my country. In Greece there is a national biker council, were every club has a say and it is there where everything is decided. In summer 2017 official decisions were made on what kind of club wears what, because this whole thing with the patches really took off the bad way, like groups of people wearing diamonds without permission etc. My club lost rights to some patches that day, not because we did something wrong, but because of another group of fools wearing whatever they could put on their vest and for us being 99%, some patches were not allowed anymore after that decision. But we were alright by that and actually all for it, because it helped clear things out between clubs. The reason I am sharing this story is because people have to understand that patches are taken seriously in biker culture and in order to put something on your cut, you must earn it, have it given to you by a brother, get permission or all the above together. Nothing is for free and what is given can also be taken away. Thank you for this video! Greetings and respect from Crete!

This is interesting. I was so ignorant to most of this. I belonged to a death/heavy metal club. OKDM/NYDM. Just a bunch of musicians supporting our local scenes and getting people out to shows, brotherhood, ETC... I joined it just to score shows easier than others. It's basically laid out like a biker club with the rules and leadership. We had back patches with logo and state. Well, my band played a biker rally in Spavinaw Oklahoma, rules were anytime you were at a show you had to wear your vest. A club of I guess you'd say 1%ers(not going to mention which club, just in case), approached us, and they were not happy. They told us the state rocker was what made them angry. 1 guy approached me, but my guitarist got circled up. They calmed down a bit after I told them ours were music based. Plus I've never owned/road a motorcycle. I think that was when they noticed all the other patches on our vests were bands. This was after our set, so we high tailed it.

Hadn't watched one of your vids in awhile... but seeing that 0% & 99%...I just had to 🤣! Over 30 yrs I've worn my clubs 3 patch cut, and I ain't never seen some of the new stupid, irresponsible shit that they're selling folks...and that folks would where! You're doing a public service, Bro...for real! If those things are what the RUBs are wearing, then this should be on PBS! Save some lives! Selling that stuff, without a warning telling them to sew it on their PJs, stick it on their SOA poster...anything other than that ought to be illegal. Irresponsible. Good on you for trying to spread the word! Subscribing!

My father was a WW2 Special Forces vet. Did warfare behind German lines with a Spanish work permit and said no records were ever kept of his service. Wouldn't say much. Did say vaguely one time he assassinated a French official once ( he said "went after" and that he "got him") Also said "it's not nice to cut the throat of a 17 year old kid" I said but dad that kid would have got you. He just got a look of some serious sadness looked down and said "I didn't know that." I eventually found someone he served with ( an absolutely wild story how I found him) and he was a bit more open about some of the missions. I guess I realized then why my dad was never afraid of anything. I can say that he hated war. He called it the most obscene thing we can do to another. And that there had to be a better way. One time he spoke against the Desert Storm at a bar. One guy called him a non patriot. LMAO! I also had a brother who served in Vietnam as a Long Range Recon and I believe tunnel rat. He was in one of the Calvary units. A lo of intense combat. I just have to think, and with all due respect, that if either of those men wore a patch or insignia from a time in their life they earned or were proud to wear it, that conflicted with something or somebody after that fact. I am not sure I would want to be the guy demanding they take it off. I suppose if there were more than two demanding, or the right influence ( a knife wouldn't do it. I had seen that example with him long ago. ) but even still. Back when I was about 12 up at the campsite me and the guys rode around in a "gang" on our SL 50s or whatever dirt bikes others had. One day we camp up with an idea to form our own MC. Shit this was the early 70's We drew this patch out. Only thing I remember was the MC 13 and the "club" name Born Losers. Who knows what else we had. Not sure if it was anything conflicting. Probably not. Would have been something to be confronted by a bunch of big bikers though for sure. Anyway we drew those patches up. We sewed them to our jean coats. Funny thing was the first time we wore them in the rain the flipping patches ink ran like some old lady's bad mascara moment. The whole patch Couldn't read a damn thing after that rain.. Stupid kids huh.. lol

Good video breaking it down for people. I'm not in a club myself, but to each his own. I just don't understand why people would want to wear patches if they're not in a club. It strikes me as a stolen valor kind of situation, except for the bike world. Doing that shit to the military will get you locked up. I can only imagine that it'll probably get something worse doing something to piss off bike clubs. If you like to ride, just ride. There's no purpose in trying to look like an outlaw biker if you're not. That never works out well.

So, question on the “1 Guadalcanal” patch. You said that many in the culture won’t respect it even if you earned it in the military. Before that, at the beginning, you explain that many brothers at certain clubs had to earn their MC patch and that we need to respect that. Isn’t that a double standard? Someone in the military earned their patch and the right to wear it, and you’re telling him that him paying the price for that patch isn’t legitimate and he has to take it off because someone else might not understand, while at the same time telling someone that they can’t wear a patch because they don’t understand or they have to take it off because someone else doesn’t understand that they earned it? I guess i’m confused here. I understand the significance of different club patches. I also have mad respect for all those that have earned. I definitely agree that there are too many people that are flying patches and colors they didn’t earn. I just have a hard time telling someone that they can’t fly something they did earn because someone else isn’t educated on its meaning while expecting to hem to be educated in the reverse order. Mad respect! Thank you for your videos! I have surely learned a lot from you, especially on rider etiquette!

Ghost... That Diamond patch with the 1st Marine Div that saw combat at Guadalcanal. That division was around before most of your MC's were founded. The MC's should have done there homework. I respect the culture. But clubs should find out sometimes.

I worked the door at a biker bar for awhile. I don't ride, but seeing the culture and the politics was an experience. We didn't allow MC to wear their cuts but RC could. I didn't understand why but it was policy. I even had to cover up the MC on a customers Sons of Anarchy t-shirt with black tape! And yes the guys handed over there vests and I put them on hangers and hung them up with respect. I never had any problems with any of the clubs. I'm a vet so I had that respect. The women that would come in were a hassle. But all the patch stuff you're talking lines up with everything I learned as a "civilian" in the biker culture.

I've rode for 50 years but have never been in a club. I don't see why these MC members are so sensitive about their jacket or vest. I swear I think they have more feelings than a woman going through menopause. If you really want to protect some emblem or patch, simply get it trademarked or copyrighted, then you have a REAL basis for protecting it. I think it was the Hells Angels that did this with some stuff they sell, and they have had success enforcing the trade or copy protection in court. Otherwise, it's all public domain and you can't legally tell someone they can't wear something because you don't like them wearing it. Like I said, they seem as sensitive as a woman in menopause. Get a life!

I was with the 1st ID in Iraq, and i would LIKE to wear my 1st ID patch on my vest, BUT i wonder if was to run into a 1% MC somewhere, if they would take issue with it or not? I am in an MA for combat veterans and we do wear vests with the solid back patch that says combat veteran, but we DO NOT wear the MC cube or anything. The 1st ID unit patch is NOT a diamond, but i still wonder if it would be worth possibly pissing someone off who may confuse the 1st ID patch for the diamond 1% patch?

There’s little from the videos I’ve seen that I wouldn’t have already considered common sense, the biggest is don’t slap the patches when showing love, other than that, I think the rest is a common knowledge thing.
