I organize by color and keep in an envelope all speciality paper for that color , keep both in my 12x 12 bin. Definitely made my craft sessions smoother, I also keep a rolling cart with all my tools, made it habit to always put them back, so I’m not constantly searching for them under all my paper , paints and dies, lol. TFS
I had to laugh at this, in the nicest possible way... sorting by colour is instinctive for me, so I've been sorting my paper this way from the get-go. In fact, i even sort my wardrobe into colour groups. Its my main inspiration for my art.
Hi! Great video! I’m a color person too. When I first got my iPhone I organized all the apps by the color of the icon. I still get annoyed about companies changing the icon to a different color. I used to work in an office and would create filing systems. I start by figuring out how the person looks for things. For you, color is important. Then you lay the choices out to compare and contrast and create! Others want to put their hands on a specific piece of paper. Start with large groupings and then arrange the items in each grouping into smaller groupings. Alphabetizing by title works as a great example. Create a folder for each letter of the alphabet. Then within the folder, keep sorting them alphabetically. Then you can find it right away. I use this example to point out that some collage artists may not want to separate by color. Perhaps the artist works in black and white. They could separate by category, then type of image: photo, drawing, abstract, etc., finally by type of paper or organic material. I could go on and on. I have been a teacher. I guess I wanted to reach out to people who might be looking for something a little different. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing this advice! It’s definitely important to find a system that works best for you. Lots of trial and error along the way and what’s working today may not make sense anymore in the future.
I Organize my paper by type: card, handmad, dyed paper, etc. But I will try to do it by colour and if it really makes a difference I will let you know, because it can be one more voice to help others travel more freely throughout their heaven /hell piles of papers!😊🎉
Thanks for this idea relating to organizing colors. I also do this with my paint colors. Organize colors of paint in bins and then it is so easy to find the color that I need. Yes, thanks for another great video with wonderful suggestions.
Always on the lookout for ways to deal with ALL the papers! This was great! Even though we work differently (I'm a collage artist who uses magazine images), I can see something like this working for me, by having envelopes for portraits, landscapes, and categories of objects like clocks, cameras, etc. Are you using closing envelopes or open ones? Also, love the storage cases 😍😍😍
I love the this idea for magazine images. The envelopes are open, which is partly why I bought the bins. They also slide off each other so the bins contain them nicely.
Hi Lisa. Thank you for your wonderfully informative videos. I'm learning so much as a budding collage artist and would love to know the name of the color sample book you show at the 1 minute mark.
