there is a right and a wrong way to log out your property for whitetails, this video goes into all the lessons I've learned from consulting and owning properties all across Ohio and surrounding states.

I agree 100%. Select timber harvest and cutting larger trees like beech and maple in strategic areas maybe only 30 yds x 30 yds is a huge benefit. After a couple years the results are amazing. It works guys.

I agree with this approach. Music was a bit distracting.

I'm now timbering my 200 acres ,, 2000 trees marked we're taking 18"at breat height and leavingball of the 16and 17 in trees for acorns,, putting alot of tops on the open ground ,,opening the canopy and hoping for regeneration, I was alittle apprehensive but I still have thousands of white and red oak left ,but I know I'm doing the right thing for the Woodlore and Wildlife cantbwait to see the results.

Getting ready to have my land cut in Northeast Pa.Lots of pine and hemlock.125 acres.Did ya do anything with your logging roads?
@treestandforestry
@treestandforestry Год назад
Yes I do seed them in, mainly for protection against erosion. Just make sure it doesn’t have good forage value so the deer actually make it to your plots.

I have a really hard time paying attention to what you are saying with the background noise. Anyway you can do closed caption? I feel like you have some good information just struggling to get it inside my thick skull.

What state are you in, I am in a rifle during the rut state and am curious to see if I have a chance to get bucks on my property like you. My farm is exactly like yours was, wide open and huge trees! Thank you

I am in Ohio. Yes, taking some timber off and creating more security/bedding cover with dramatically improve the odds of Deer using your property as a sanctuary during rifle.

That's good cover and looks to be great forage . I just purchased 160 acers in east Texas. But most of my trees are pine. I do have several oaks spread out through the property and a couple hickory trees. And the need thinning badly. In fact property needs logged but I'll have to do my research on finding a logger that's not going to just rape the land. And leave stumps sticking up 2 ft and higher throughout the property. When I looked at the property before buying it there was deer and pig tracks everywhere. And it butts up to lake o the pines. So I thought well I can hunt deer,pigs,squirrel rabbit and ducks plus fish. But would need to thin the whole property. Then some selective timer harvest. Plus and all out clear cut for 25 - 30 acers so I would have some pasture. But being it's a recent purchase I'm going to get a forester to come in. Plus I'd kinda like to just camp it and hunt it for the 1st year.

I always like to get to know a property before making any major permanent decisions. Sounds like a good plan!
