I knocked out a very simple quilt in this video. I hope it's not too simple. I really think with nice fabric prints it would look so much better. But plain is cool too. This would be an excellent way to use up some fat quarters. I hope you give it a try. Thanks so much for watching. More easy quilting projects here: tinyurl.com/ycjjfqqz

I love watching your thought process being born. While watching you I will have a "what if " thought. And half of the time you will say what I was thinking. I don't know whether to feel proud or afraid. just kidding. At 65 I need all the encouragement I can find. So I will feel smart.

Can't be too simple for me. I try so many things, but never master any, so I give up. I didn't have the most encouraging parents and giving up kind of became habit. Your projects help me to finish things and I am so encouraged by that.

You know, my mother made each of my kids a one piece quilt... a yard of fabric on each side, just sewn and hand tied. They lasted for over 20 years a piece, and the kids used them into adulthood. (she also made other quilts along the way, but these were the ones that lasted longest as she never machine quilted them, and it was tough on the quilts when they were washed.) This is a perfect way to make a pretty, reversible quilt for charity and shelters, more durable by far for anyone that gets them. The one thing about the charity part is they don't like tied quilts. NOT TO WORRY. In one night, with pretty embroidery thread you can do simple stitching and quilt it by hand, or do simple machine lines, no more than 4" apart which is more than enough to make it floofy!

I love it! The patterns turned out gorgeous together. I would love to see a tutorial on tying down at center/seam of a quilt! I love the no-nonsense way you sewed this quilt together. Now I know when I make my first quilt that it doesn't have to be rocket science. ;) I have no reason to procrastinate it as you made this seem so doable.

I am a perfectionist and I have to have perfect intersections. I use my sewing machine's longest basting stitch to baste each intersection before sewing the permanent stitching. It's easier to remove an inch or two of basting if the intersections are off. After sewing the permanent seam, I remove the temporary basting. I envy free spirited quilters because sometimes mistakes turn into creative masterpieces.

Darlene, I love it, would it be "tacky" to do two 9 patches together to fit a queen bed with a lot of hangovers? I know I could add big borders but would love the whole bed top to be covered?
@darlene.michaud
@darlene.michaud 6 лет назад
You can do any tacky thing you want! lol And you don't even have to use the actual size of the fat quarters. You can trim them smaller than 18 by 20 if that works better for you. To cover a whole queen bed, I'm thinking you might need the 9 patch to be taller, like maybe 4 rows tall, so 3 across by 4? I don't really know, but you need to figure out wha you want for a final size then go from there.
