the best movies are worse that some not so good story games ... corpse party, to the moon, mad father, last of us and many other (mostly rpg) games have better story than the best movie, think about it :)
I see a lot of people saying that To The Moon should be a Movie, and I agree with that. I just would like to see it as an animated movie, and not anime or cartoonish like. Like, Ghibli Studios like. I know they do an anime type-ish thing, but it doesn't seem like anime at the same time. To the Moon is a beautiful story, and if they did make a movie of it, I think that an animated movie would be the best way to show it's story.
Idiot CandyCorn I don't agree. I think the anime style as Wolf's rain has would capture the adventurous yet beautiful and deep feeling in the game marvelously! :) Sure you can get better effects with an animated movie but I think that characters can get pretty flat and therefore loose the true feeling.
This tells an unbelievable amount of story with being just a simple song. Even if you haven't played the game, you feel that love, loss, sadness, and happiness. It's unbearable.
Anyone else notice that the song originally doesn't have an end note, and in the ending he named it "to the moon"? Well, I think that shows that he didn't make it to the moon in time. Oh god I made myself cry...
I keep thinking to myself, "I'll listen to the To the Moon soundtrack while I work, that's nice and relaxing, and it'll help me focus." But every time I hear this song I'm instantly filled with so many emotions... this game is truly a masterpiece.
Auditory stimming through a song for his wife. Johnny was both a genius and a romantic. He probably noticed River's stim behaviors and made a connection, and then feeling like he could give her something more than just music, he embodied this raw, human part of her in a beautiful work of art. Thank you Kan, for the wonders of your games and music.
I see comments here from 6 years ago but i just got here cos this game has been on my wishlist only recently.. but my love of amazing piano masterpieces led me here and I havnt even played the game yet and am now listening to To The Moon's soundtrack and im in tears.. Im kinda torn to even start the game... I feel it's one of those I don't want to end... for selfish reasons that I want to just dwell in the emotions... such as the kind this music now brings to me. You who is reading this, I dont know if you agree with me, but its this kind of high where you hear such tunes and you just soar... making your mind go blank and just feeling each sound, making you to close your eyes and wanting this moment for the rest of your life... that's how beautiful this is.

Not gonna lie the game gave a big impact to me. Its pretty sad that if our lives end up like john and river but at the same time there are also happy times...
Beautiful game, just a excellent example of how games truly are art. The story of this piece of art is so powerful and soul embedded, that it's beyond anyone's ability to control their emotions. Even after only seeing a few episodes of a play-through to this game, I feel a very personal connection to the characters so much so that I purchased the game so that I could relieve their lives and never forget their story.

Many tears were shed playing the game and listening to this song. Even thought the story was bitter sweet, I wish I could find a girl like River whom I could dedicate and love until I grow old and frail just like Johnny.

At first it was "For River"; Johnny knows that he owes her something, but doesn't know what. And in the altered memory it became "To The Moon". I always read it as "For River, To the Moon"

This music is great. I played the game one week ago and ever remember to this story. It's the best story-game I ever played. The music alone is very very nice, but together in the game in the story its awesome! Play the game! It's fantastic! what a wonderful music. Thanks!
I'm a whovian here and I'm just going to say, when they introduced River into the game, I just started crying because in Doctor Who, the Doctor's human alias is John Smith, or as his close human friends called him, John. River and the Doctor were otp for me, but then things happened and then it could never be ;~; Yes yes i agree with other people INTO A MOVIE THIS SHALL BECOME hopefully ;w;
Rumi Amano I cried when i had nothing to relate to, im not a whovian, ive never met anyone with autism (presumably what river has) i never wanted to go to the moon, and ive never had any relatives die, but by the time for river was playing, ive already cried 20-30 tears...
The full version of the song should be To the Moon For River. Without the indensions and stuff, because think, Johnny went to the moon for river. They meet on the tummy of the bunny.
Throughout the game she always was talking about the moon. Anya wasn't the lighthouse, it was the moon, and she had a perfect view from that house, and when she was dying, she wanted him to live there, so he could either remember their first meeting, or so when he died they would regroup on the moon. And when they were changing it near the end, his brain made sure she would meet up on the moon, since she was one to keep a promise.
GUUA It was called For River in reality because he could not think up a better name for it and he did not remember why he wanted to go to the moon. In reality, it was a dream to express his love for River. In the alternate memories implanted, he wrote it basically as a song to get out his emotions of how happy he was to go to the moon, hence the name To the Moon. That was not for River. Each of the names was for one thing but not the other. That is why it is not both.
Okay so my room is right near to the roof. As in I can go on the roof with ease, so when I get a bf I am going to bring him up there at night on a fall day and play this song. And then I'm going to say "If we spend the rest of our lives together and we die together I want us to meet at the moon. right on the rabbits belly." Tell me this isn't the most amazing thing

The sign of great music is that it evokes emotion without context. This is one such example. Though i knew that To The Moon was an excellent game from reviews and friends' recommendations, I had yet to play it when I first heard "For River". Despite this fact, it was moving to me, brought up memories of good times that I had experienced, dreams I had. The game itself sat in my Steam library for years, paid for but never played--until I came to hear "For River" again, here on this page, through an auto-play cycle. I was then suddenly compelled to learn the story behind this poignant piece of music--and what a story it was. To The Moon is truly an awe inspiring production, simple and powerful in its means. This composition is exemplary of this.
God this always gets me! John gave river all he could when she was sick and healthy. The game shows true love and sacrifices I am willing to do for any one. 😪 🤕

Yea but what about the ending where the girl goes back and stops the main charecter from helping Johnny dating the girl and he makes it to the moon (Sorry for any spoilers)
(SPOILER WARNING) Well there are few things i have to say about your comment Chelsea. 1. You should probably put the spoiler warning at the START of your comment. 2. The main character IS Johnny. I assume you are talking about when Eva moves River so John cant ask her out, and Neil tries to stop her. They still meet again at the space agency so I dont know what you're talking about. 3. Theres only one ending so I dont know why you worded your comment as if there were multiple.
Greatest Game of ALL times ! This song release some unbelivable feelings on myself... its so sad and same time so wonderful. Only Finding Paradise can match this masterpiece of art !
