My Mother was English and was at a British Air Force base and had just come off of duty and heard some music! She went into the hanger and it was Glenn Miller and his band she said his music was just fantastic! ! R.I.P. Glenn Miller and my mum who passed away in 2019 aged 95
I am so glad you said that!!! If that had happened 30 years later it would be an conspiracy theory and someone would say they had Jimmy Hoffa piloting the plane. Most of the time, a CIGAR is a cigar.
What remains of the band was still touring all year about 20yrs ago and we had a chance to see them here in Vancouver. In an old dance hall with a horsehair dance floor, they didnt need mikes and amps, they literally FILLED the place and it was bordering on a religious experience. What a show.
Im 70 yo. Have heard of and listened to Glen Miller and his music for my entire life. I have never heard of those that was his music critics. Not much on the opinions of critics.
I saw The Glenn Miller movie TV showing old movies. Loved it and the music. Sad to hear of his loss. He gave music to the Greatest Generation, allowing them to dance and play his music. Moonlight Serenade, Tuxedo Junction, and so many more. Thanks for airing this documentary. Another great talent gone too soon.
This dying in the arms of a prostitute is closer to what my daddy, who was a captain in WWII and had top secret security clearance, told me about Miller’s disappearance that was in top secret files he was looking through after the war ended. My daddy died in July of 1996 of lung cancer. He told me what he had seen in the Miller file a few years before he died. When I asked my daddy why he was telling me what he had found, he said he was getting older, had kept the secret for so long and felt he needed to tell someone what he knew. I asked him why he had never revealed what he had read in the TS files in the early 50’s and he said he had sworn an oath but it was time. I think my daddy stumbled on the truth and I am glad he told me what he read. I am now almost my daddy’s age when he told me……I miss him and my mother so much.
PS…what my daddy told me was that Miller and some other GI’s were shouting craps, Miller was accused of having loaded dice and, of course, cheating, a fight ensued and during the fight a GI slit Millers throat. To save face and protect Miller’s reputation, his body was loaded on the aforementioned plane along with small bomb…the pilot had a parachute and bailed out over the English Channel letting the plane blow up and go down. I watched a program years ago on the History Channel called, “Dead Men Do Tell Tales” where Miller’s brother said his family had never believed the story the Army told them because they had discovered records where the pilot, who supposedly also died, was receiving US Army benefits well into the 1960’s…not death benefits but retirement benefits…so makes sense that the pilot did not die. I would like to fine that program and watch it again. There is no reason for my daddy to lie about this. Nancy Davis Curtis
No disrespect to your father, you have been watching too many X files - if you want the truth to this story use the Freedom of Information Act and verify it. Although the answer you'll get back is the file no longer exist, but at least you would have made an effort.
It was also speculated that Leslie Howard was also suspected of doing intelligence work for the allies in WWll. David Niven admitted that he had done intelligence work during the war.
@@nomadpi1 Commanded a Squadron of Phantom the GHQ Liason Regiment that provided surveillance and reconnaissance and signals back to General HQ in real time reports to aid Generals and staff to plan operational actions.
The hotshot pilot of his plane is to blame. Forgoing orders to avoid a restricted area (bomb dumping area) and flying at wave top levels he put his passengers at risk. A single bomb exploding nearby could toss the aircraft into the icy waters of the English Channel. Swing music was banned in NAZI Germany there were teenagers sent to concentration camps or summarily inducted into the military because of their love of Swing Music. There was a made for tv movie about it in the 1980’s.
The crew of an RAF Lancaster bomber could not drop its bombs over Germany and was dumping their bombs in a designated bomb dropping area in the English Channel. They dropped a load of 4,000 lb bombs and watched the shock wave tip Miller's plane over and crash into the water. They confessed sometime in the 1970s or 80s.
What a pile of debunked rubbish. Primary source records have revealed that Miller's flight path and the that of the returning Lancs bombers were about 2 hours apart. Fred Shaw may have seen a plane below them, but it was not Miller's Norseman.
Twice as long it should be, repetitive, lots of unnamed people drinking coffee, and the worst sin of LYING to the viewer about any plane being found. Added to ignore list.
don't like fake news. You Tube is becoming famous for this. You present a story with no photos to back it up. What about ethics? Sensationalism is what you are all about. V. Muniz
I am 78,listening to his music is a journey into my mother and father’s young life. The music of the early 40’s is a history of AMERICAS GREATNESS GENERATION! Still love all the Big Bands and listen every chance I get !
What bullshit. Apart from the recognizable photos of Glen Miller, who are all these people in video out-takes FFS!? They're talking but muted, while you drone on telling us nothing we haven't always known. Luckily I've sussed this out at the 2min 22sec point, thus saving myself half an hour. A quick glance at the comments confirms my decision to jump ship.
A few decades I heard on the radio that someone found a stack of Glenn Miller's handwritten music compositions in London. Is it possible his compositions have been published? I love his music I can listen to his band all day and all night.
David Niven was an officer in the famous British Army Commandos he was a member of 3 Commando my Late Grandfather was part of First Special Service Brigade SOE 1 Commando. I’m a member of the WW2 Commando Association I’ve never heard of Niven being in anything other than 3 Commando during WW2. RIP to all those who died during WW2
So great, so innovative, so creative. He up lifted all. My mom and dad danced to him in New York city before my dad was shipped to Algeria to assist with clean up after British defeated Rommel
I'm 71, and he's my favorite musician even though he was killed before I was born. I play trombone too,. Many years ago I met someone who played with him. I'm definitely not as good as he was.
A returning flight of B24's had to return from a bombing mission and ditched their bomb load over the sea and it is believed one of the bombs hit Glenn Miller's plane that was flying well below the B24's.
I loved & grew up listening to Glenn Miller, now 81, I still play his music, it still gives me fantastic ,& fond memories, of the young American Forces, who came to Great Britain,, My Grandmother her self born in America, welcomed the American pilot Danny Bleser, who’s parents was very rich who thanked my grandmother for helping to look after their son, they become friends, … ..They played Glenn Miller all the time they had with my grand parents on breaks from flying Wellington Costal Bombers….I My sister & I missed them both when they was killed on 15 February 1944…My fantastic Uncle was a wonderful human being, always thinking of others, Our thoughts was with my Uncle & Danny, we was family…Who’s sacrifice they gave to give us our Freedoms we have today…. What hurts is the way this Prime Minister is making it look ,it was all in vain, because we was fighting the German Nazis, Now Mr Starmer works for the Rothschilds who are German Nazis, who wants to take over our world….We will lose our freedoms, under Mr Starmer, how sad is that….
May i suggest that he was accidentally killed but the the British meaning he was heading to france and a british bomber squadron was headed in the opposite direction and the weather was really bad where they couldn't see each other and when they dropped their bombs one of the bombs sheared the wing of the plane that Glenn was traveling on
Not at all true. You'd do well to read Dennis M. Spragg's "Glenn Miller: Declassified" for an up-to-date exploration of primary source documents from both RAF and USAF sources. The returning Lancs and Miller's Norseman were both flying that day, but were about two hours apart. What Shaw saw may have been a single-engine airplane, but not Miller's.
PLEASE ! ~~ I have Heard every STORY ! from classified files, to bombs dropped on a " CAMOFLAGED single engine Airplane' flying just above the wave tops. now please Bare in mind they couldn't drop there bombs due to bad weather, YET they are expected to be able to spot a camo airplane moving at a LOW altitude in the opposite direction of travel in inclimate Weather. in Combat conditions. While dumping LIVE ORDINACE. While scanning for enemy fighters. now as for TOP SECRET files. LMAO. anyone who handles Top secret files can tell you. they are eyes ONLY ! Meaning if you are not involved in the case in the file then unless approved by the HEAD of the agency or the President you DO NOT get to SEE that FILE ! This is who TOP SECRET files STAY top secret ! YOU do NOT HONESTLY,.......... think every EMPLOYEE of the CIA or FBI gets to READ the JFK files do you ? NOT at all ! EACH president can READ anything he wants to READ while in OFFICE !. but even he cant go Back once he is done. & just read anything ! he is limited to things which concerned his TERM of OFFICE. TRUMP BTW, READ the JFK files, ( all of them ! ) & decided it was best to NOT DECLASSIFY the REST of them ! so whatever is in the rest of those FILES, Concerns the U>S> GOVERNMENT ! This is a FACT !
